blank

Kess is a young Ghanaian belonging to a sphere of the music industry which is characterized by headphones, big-boosted bass speakers and experienced hands. DJ’ing in our industry has come of mellowness and the invaluable contribution DJ’s make to the music industry is unplumbed.

Hers is the perfect epitome of an “AGAINST ALL ODDS” scenario. Despite the enormous advancement our DJ’s have made, it was typically flanked by males. At a point in time it wasn’t had to believe that DJ’ing was made for males.

Well you might just have to revise your notes and amend your conception as you meet the critically acclaimed “BEST FEMALE DJ” in the country. As one of YFM’s most trusted hands, she complements the rare skills of ace female presenter Jeremie in the Y-Lounge with her wicked mixes. The year 2009 was absolutely a great one for her as a DJ and it gets better by the day. Ghanacelebrities.com caught up with this phenomenal DJ for a chit chat..

Ghanacelebrities.com: You need no introduction, but tell us something about yourself which is not already out there.

Kess: Am NANA KESSEWAH… an Ashanti …lived in Takoradi and had my second cycle education at ARCHBISHOP PORTER GIRLS’ SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL…love music and sports too… very friendly and down to earth… love fufu and light soup and anything with kontonmire…. (Guess that’s that)

Ghanacelebrities.com: How did it all begin for you as a DJ?

Kess: It started in SSS now SHS…used to be part of the entertainment committee… and I was in charge of the machines we used to play songs… the mixer and the rest…

Ghanacelebrities.com: Have you always wanted to go into DJ’ing or it just came up.

Kess: No it’s something I have always wanted to do… music has always been part of me.

Ghanacelebrities.com: What were some of the challenges you faced coming up in a male-dominated field?

Kess: It was very challenging trying to convince a lot of people who are already used to male djs that females can scratch too..lol… it wasn’t  that easy but am happy they accept me now…

Ghanacelebrities.com: The story is told of how your uncle helped you get to YFM. Tell us that story.

Kess: Lool….yea I call him my local idol,…he is in charge of the broadcasting part of GMA (GLOBAL MEDIA ALLIANCE) under which they have Happy FM, Silverbird cinemas, Etv Ghana, Anigye FM in Kumasi and YFM… so I expressed my interest and he believed me even though he had no idea whether  I was good or not…

Ghanacelebrities.com: What has been your most defining moment as a DJ?

Kess: The day I started playing at niteclubs….

Ghanacelebrities.com: What are some of the events that have been under your turntable-control?

Kess: Used to play at Pardees Nite Klub and played at a couple of programs in Kumasi. Also played at other club events and lastly the road to MAMA’s at Citizen Kofi..

Ghanacelebrities.com: Presently you have added presenting to your resume. How that did also happened?

Kess: I asked myself throughout the week that my fans get a feel of my mixes so why not let them get a feel of my voice on Sundays…it’s been fun doing that…

Ghanacelebrities.com: You are critically acclaimed the best female DJ in the country.Do you agree with this notion?

Kess: Why not!

Ghanacelebrities.com: Are you single or attached?

Kess: Single…

Ghanacelebrities.com: Apart from Dj’ing what else do you do?

Kess: Will be starting a sound engineering course very soon…

Ghanacelebrities.com: Do you have any intentions of leaving YFM for any other gig?

Kess: No …no intentions of that sort…

Ghanacelebrities.com: Rumors have it that you are getting into acting, how true is that?

Kess: It’s not true but now that you mentioned, maybe I can try…

Ghanacelebrities.com: What do you think about the Ghanaian music industry now?

Kess: I think our artistes are really doing well to help raise it to the next level..

Ghanacelebrities.com: What will you to say to the young girls who look up to you and will like to follow your steps?

Kesse: Everything is possible as long as we get our minds to it… If I made it why can’t them…
