VIP

The Hiplife scene changed during the emergence of the Nima group VIP (Vision in Progress), one of the most successful groups up to date in the 1990′s.The trio, Promzy, lazzy and Prodigal set out to change the stereotypes of Nima only being gritty and ghetto which therefore makes the people from Nima yardie and aimless.

Under Goodies music productions, the group took their spot in Hip life when they first released their album Bibiba which featured tracks like Rana Sala. Their second album entitled Yede ba followed with tracks like Obaa Sweetie.

The group got their recognition in the mainstream when they wer nominated for Hiplife Rap music of the year back in 2002. The year 2004 proved to be their best year till date when they released their critcally acclaimed album ‘Ahomka Womu’. They were nominated for several awards that same year at the Ghana Music Awards. They won the Artist of the year, the Best song of the year, Hiplife artist of the year and Hiplife Album of the Year. Their record breaking single Ahomka Womu which featured the late Suzie Williams in the video won the best music video directing.

In that same year thy performed at the Kora awards in South Africa alongside some of the best artists in Africa and also represented Ghana in Athens during their campaign at the Olympics 2004 as part of the fundraising activities.  Together with Goodies Music, they have become ambassadors in fighting against HIV/AIDS. They aim to educate the masses, stop the widespread of the disease and to also help those affected.

In 2005, they went on to win the Best Group in Africa and performed at the thank you concerts organized by the United Nations in South Africa. They also performed for the frist time at the NCOGA annual picnic and concert in New York. VIP has gone on to perform in countries like UK, Netherlands, America and many other places.

Their latest album ‘PussyCat’ features some of the best artists like Nigeria’s 2Face Idibia and Tone Tetuilla and Awadi from Senegal.  With so many awards and albums under their belt, VIP continues to do good music and make Ghana proud especially the people from NIMA.
