Music duo, Bradez are crying foul after Charter House, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards released the list of artistes billed to perform at the main event of this year’s awards.

The grand event which takes place at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 10 has already received a lot of criticism from the public and musicians alike over the choice of nominations and categories some of the artistes have been placed.

The awards night will witness performances from 4X4, R2Bees, Amakye Dede, Wutah, Sarkodie, Obrafour, V.I.P. with international artistes, Donaeo, Wande Coal and Jozi.

Bradez, made up of Stone and Kunta Kinte have five nominations and are in contention to grab some awards at the finale. They disclosed to Myjoyonline.com that they are not happy about the fact that the organisers have given the opportunity for hip life artistes in the Artiste of the Year category to perform at the event.

This they say will give their competitors an unfair advantage over them and suspect some foul play from the organisers.

“When the list came out, it made us to ask the question, is it done to affect our votes? It is unfair since all our colleagues have been given the opportunity. Most of our fans complained that we don’t perform much; they say we have ignored them. It is not about us because we have played at big shows, it’s about our fans who say they want to see us,” Stone said.

The duo said their management contacted the organisers to find out why their name was not included in the list, “Our management called them and they said not every artiste can perform at the event. When our management called the second time, they explained that they did not add their name because Kunta will not be able to perform. It is skeptical. They know I have rocked shows alone and nobody asked us whether Kunta was going to perform on not.”

“Even if he was not going to perform, I have rocked shows alone. Is sickness going to be used against us?”

Never the less, the duo said they were very grateful for getting nominations in this year’s awards and that the awards itself is good for the industry.

“We are very grateful to be nominated and we don’t have anything against the event but we owe it to our fans. We have to let them know why we are not going to perform at the event because most of the time they think we ignore them by not performing at such important shows. Nevertheless we still go ahead to commend organisers for this event because it is good for the industry.”

The duo acknowledged the hard work various artistes exhibited last year, this they say will make the competition keener, “I think every artiste did very well last year, some brought out very nice songs and others worked very hard. I think we deserve some awards just like the other artistes because we all worked very hard last year.”

Juno Abena Turkson, Public Relations Executive of Charter House reacting to the allegation told Myjoyonline.com that they are not aware of such a development and therefore cannot make any official comment on it.
