Ayigbe Edem Issues An Official Statement On The “Confidence Haugen” Recording Rumpus

Ayigbe Edem

The Ewe Rapper Ayigbe Edem has issued an official statement to state what necessitated him to record his telephone conversation with his ex-lover Confidence Haugen of Aphrodisiac Night Club.

The rapper who won the Hip Hop Song of the Year with his track ‘You Dey Craze’ apologizes to his fans, observers and Ghanaians as a whole for contributing to the chaos going on now. He is therefore pleading for his carelessness and hopes he is forgiven.

He finally has this to whoever has the recordings “I am therefore pleading with the person responsible to please desist from publishing anymore of these.  If the person thinks he or she is doing it in favor of me, I’d like to tell him/her that they are mistaken, as it is rather hurting both parties.  I apologize to the music industry, my loved ones, my fans and Ghanaians as a whole, for being careless with my private affairs, resulting in this chaos”.

Below is the full text of the statement UNEDITED.

I have decided to come out publicly with this official statement concerning a private conversation between me and an ex-lover, which has very accidentally found its way into wrong hands and onto the internet.

First of all, I’d like to state that I have the permission of my management to issue this statement on my own behalf. Secondly, I’d like to apologize to my fans, observers and Ghanaians as a whole for contributing to this chaos by being careless for misplacing my phone, which contained sensitive information and for not deleting such information earlier on in the first place. I’d also like to sympathize with the other party involved since this is clearly a private issue for both of us.

I would want to make three major points based on frequently asked questions posed by the media: –

  • The motive behind the recording and time of the recording,
  • The question of whether or not this is a stunt for my upcoming album and
  • A plea to whoever is behind the publication of this recording.

The motive

Life’s lessons have taught me enough in my few years on this earth that when a love relationship goes bad, anything can happen. I have also learnt in my lifetime that when things get out of hand and violence surfaces, the law is harder on the male sex. So it was only right that I armed myself incase violence sets in and I needed evidence to establish that indeed it was a case of a relationship gone bad. I know that not many will agree with me, maybe not until they find themselves in my situation at the time.  I don’t regret recording these conversations because they came in handy when I was later on accused of stealing a phone which the other party misplaced at a festival, four months before these recordings took place.  However, I regret being careless and loosing it at a function where I was signing autographs just about a month ago.

The question of whether or not this is a stunt for my upcoming album

The reason why the publicity stunt should be ruled out is because I got to where I am today without a publicity stunt and my management has no history of using publicity stunts to shine the numerous artists that have passed through them including me.

There were advantageous times in this saga where my name was dragged through the mud and accused of being a thief to the whole world. I had these recordings but never had any sinister ideas of bringing them out. Why then would I bring them out today?

It was recently brought to my attention that the other party was on one radio station and sort of spoke in favor of my artistry. This clearly showed that the other party had no ill motive towards me and as such gives me no reason whatsoever to make a public spectacle of her, resulting in her humiliation. And I would also want to state that my ex was not begging for a comeback as stated in the title of the video. She was merely asking for a way forward. I strongly believe that someone who knows both parties is in possession of the phone and intends to make a spectacle out of this.

A plea to whoever is behind the publication of this recording

I am therefore pleading with the person responsible to please desist from publishing anymore of these.  If the person thinks he or she is doing it in favor of me, I’d like to tell him/her that they are mistaken, as it is rather hurting both parties.  I apologize to the music industry, my loved ones, my fans and Ghanaians as a whole, for being careless with my private affairs, resulting in this chaos. Thank you.

  1. You really haven’t said much here.It still doesn’t justify your recording the conversation.Legally it is wrong and your ”manager” should have explained that to you. Also if you were smart enough to record something like this you should have been smart enough to keep it somewhere safe, why?Because like you said said ”you needed it as proof”.
Another question when the phone got lost did you report if officially?Knowing that there was such sensitive information on it?A police report would have made your story more credible.
You are right we are not in your shoes and desprate matters require desperate actions, but you have been very irresponsible and I’m guessing your manager is managing without knowing the law and how it operates. My advice is that when you pull another stunt like this be more mature.Because clearly you don’t know how this would feel if the roles were turned. You seem like an intelligent man but remember one bad not spoils the whole soup!

  4. @mimi, nana and konogo , especially konogo- I believe u guys n girl are haters.!! WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM????? He issued this statement because of ignorant people like u who go around accusing people based on mere judgements instead of facts! We all record conversations! I personally have but if an unknown person gets hold of it(especially in the case of edem and confidence,) , they would share it to the world because they r PEOPLE being talked about! ~ Your celebritites! Try being a celebrity and see if what people say about you will always be positive…… THINK BEFORE YOU GO ON THE NET BLAMING SOMEONE….. It is unjust n moreover none of you were there personally during all those times so stop JUDGING!

  6. oh my God Edem..do u really recognise the trouble you find yourself should confidence decides to take you on legally? You recorded a conversation without any warrant and to make it worse you published it. This lady is a kind cos if i was in her shoes i would have dragged your sorry ass to court immediately…Madam confidence if you are reading this please sue him asap cos he is using your hard earned name to score cheap and childish publicity points. Ayigbe boy pls apologies to confidence immediately and plead with her to cool down b4 the worse happens ok cos you will laugh at the wrong side of your big mouth shd she take u on..your management shd be so sorry for encouraging u to do such a stupid and childish crap and pls stop saying some one stole your phone stuff cos its a lame and silly excuse to use as a defence cos u knew exactly what u were doing from the word go. It is clearly noticed in your line of question in your recorded chat..You shd be ashamed of yourself. Think twice boy

  8. ekk, which planet are you on? pluto? recording a personal conversation between two adults aint no crime. NOT in GHANA, AMERICA, UK  unless you in SAUDI ARABIA!  der is jack shit that hoe can do. ive nude naughty pics of my ex too and on the bitches wedding day, ima send if first class to her so that she and her partner can enjoy the pics of wen the tits were much firmer but very cheap. actually i got a couple in my classified x files folder. edem wosia meka vo ho.

  9. I think he had very honest reasons to record the conversation. In the field of law enforcement the woman is almost “always right” and the man is nailed to the wall. I wouldn’t be surprised if this confidence woman came out in public to say exactly the opposite …so the recording exonerates him in such a situation.

  10. Huh? I don’t think it comes natural to record private coversations regularly… I just read someone comment that “we all record conversations” lol, but I never have…guess I’m different eh? LOL….unless of course you have some motive behind it, I don’t know why someone would do it?
And another thing, some actions may not be illegal to do but that doesn’t make them justified. Some ppl just like to play dirty and will do anything to get back at a person.

  11. @KTGalloway – recording conversations can be done for fun, or in many cases, allows one to keep the memory of it…….. not everyone does it with a bad mind

  12. Kojo, I understand, kinda like video recording something for memory, but in most cases I would imagine-the other party knows abt it also and its not being hidden LOL. Like I said, maybe I’m just different. 🙂

  13. @bee…I guess that clearly you can read but you have a very difficult problem understanding..When you report a case to the police it doesn’t necessarily mean they can solve your problem, but for records sake its good to have a document proving you did your part.So that when a case like this happens you have more proof. Why do you think that when you make an insurance claim you need a police report to prove what you are claiming(if you even know what that means).Anywho I don’t have to convince you or anyone to agree with me,I stand for my self and maybe you should do the same. And for the record I still stand on the ground that Edem was very immature, this has nothing to do with wether I’m on confi’s side or not.Adults should be responsible for their actions, just as confi’s should be responsible for being married and dating this guy in the first place.MY OPINION

  15. AND JUST LIKE I SAID, HE HAS NOT HAD A WOMAN LIKE HER, SO I SUPPOSE RECORDING THE CONVERSATION MADE HIM FEEL A LIL POWERFUL COMPARED TO THE POWER SHE HAD OVER HIM. AS OF ALL THE REASONS HE IS GIVING, ALL BS. YOU RECORDED IT SO YOU ARE THE ONE WHO LEAKED IT. SPARE US ALL THIS LONG ARTICLES WE HAVE TO READ! KMT

  17. EDEM.,YOU KNOW IT WAS YOUR IDEA TO RIDICULE HER.I FEEL SORRY FOR HER BECAUSE THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A PRIVATE DISCUSSION BETWEEN THE TWO OF YOU.THESE KINDS OF THINGS HAPPEN IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP GONE BAD,AND WOMEN CAN SAY A WHOLE LOT OF CRAP WHEN THEY ARE PISSED WITHOUT NECCESSARILY THINKING OF THE REPERCUSSIONS.EVEN THE WAY YOU WERE TALKING SEEMS TO SUGGEST YOU WERE LIKE PUTTING OUT ON AN INTERVIEW.EVERY SENSIBLE MAN OR WOMAN WILL CATCH THE DRIFT.YOU DID IT TO DISGRACE HER BECAUSE SHE SAID SOMETHING BAD ABOUT YOU,BUT THIS WAS WAS NOT SO COOL.YOU SHOULD LEARN TO BE A GENTLEMAN,REMEMBER YOU ARE IN THE SPOTLIGHT.

  18. @ blings – you cant say he did it because you never saw him do it…. it is people like you who talk as if they know all while they dont…… i believe your job is to bring the people in the spotlight down. Believe me it is not easy being in the spotlight… imagine everything you do getting criticized by people with minds like yours, you wouldnt be happy. In the article, he said he did record it BUT had no intention of using it. He CLEARLY said his phone was stolen and that the present holder of the phone today is the one doing this. IS THAT HARD FOR YOU TO BELIEVE? They are words from the horses own mouth so you have no option than to stick with it instead of your BLUNT ASSUMPTIONS.Think about that.

  19. @ Kojo,i am not interested in whether he did it or not.my problem is he should stop lying to us,he either put it on the internet or paid someone to do it.how else will someone who found a stolen phone decide to spread the content to people and even on the internet.come on.he should stop saying he didnt do it,nobody is going to do anything to him.he should just be honest.no one is a child and clearly can read in between the lines.what was he recording it for if he has no intention of using it and besides anyone who listens to the audio will attest to the fact that he was aware of the motives behind the recording.,if he should be the one staging a come back.,i believe you wont have any qualms when an audio hits the internet claiming he was trying to do something like that.it happens in every relationship so quit acting like a baby.i dont have the time.just advising him to stick to his core values, and do his music, that is the most impotant thing,i know he did it under ill advise and will surely regret it,and this will by no means pull a publicity stunt for him because he is already a local celebrity.just a mixed reaction to the kind of person he is from his fans.nobody said what Confidence did was right, but he is a gentleman and should behave as such.so if you have nothing to do than to defend him.i say go ahead.but you should know criticism is part of showbiz and cant get far enough if you dont correct yourself when criticised.good luck.

  23. @Kojo… You are telling us to stop judging while you judge us of being ignorant and haters? haha. you crack me up. You on the other hand need to get YOUR facts straight. It’s as clear as glass that Edem and Hammer were behind this recording just to get back at confidence because of the Phone issue. So please, Kojo, don’t come on here and try to insult people whom, first of all you don’t know. And secondly, while not showing your face.

    Peace,
    Nana.

Now to my main issue, people; what do you expect from a young Boy?? This is the only way,He knows how to revenge. considering the fact that Confidence called him a thief sometime back. It’s a 1-1 draw. Ayigbe Edem, please stop disturbing us with stories of a stolen phone,we understand that you had to get back at her. And Antie Confi….. revenge is a meal best served cold!
