Wrapping Up On The Black Stars: Black Stars Under Performed…, Asamoah Gyan Was Selfish + President Mills Announces Juicy Prize Package For Stars

When I posted a write up asking which of the “Black Star Players Sucks The Most” based on our kick out by Uruguay, I got various lashes from readers on the grounds that I am being ungrateful.  Sometimes, it is disheartening and pathetic to see some Ghanaians celebrating mediocrity as I do not find anything extraordinary with the performance of the black stars, especially against Uruguay, a match which we could and should have won.

However, It is refreshing to know that, I am not the only Ghanaian with this feeling and mindset, Ghanaian social commentator and prominent Journalist, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr is on the same wavelength with me.  Listen to the audio below as Mr Pratt pours out the truth which most Ghanaians are failing to see….

For those of  you who think otherwise,  your champions have been given what they deserved by President Mills, read below for more info..

President John Evans Atta Mills has announced a $20,000 prize package each to the Black Stars for their sterling performance in the ongoing World Cup tournament in South Africa.

He has also promised the team a befitting national honours to be awarded at a later date.

President John Mills made these promises at a reception held at the Castle gardens on Tuesday in honour of the Black Stars.

The Stars took turns to exchange pleasantries with the president for their heroic exploits at the World Cup.

A ‘cheating hand of the devil’ by Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, and a painful penalty miss by Asamoah Gyan meant the Stars could not make the historic semi-final berth, the first for any African team in the World Cup.

They were kicked out in the quarter finals via a penalty shoot-out.

Yet the Stars are acclaimed as Africa’s brightest spot in the World, with the efforts applauded by many African Heads of States.

President John Mills was full of praise for the youngest team at the World Cup, saying their contribution served as a uniting force, not only for Ghana but the African continent.

He hoped their efforts would be replicated in subsequent competitions.

Richard Kingson, deputizing for Stephen Appiah and John Mensah respectively, was full of praise for the overwhelming support and rapturous welcome the team received.

He was particularly thankful to President Mills for leading the team in prayer ahead of the USA clash – a prayer, he said inspired the team to victory.

He was convinced that Ghana will once again make a good impression at the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil.

The reception was attended by key government functionaries, including E.T. Mensah, Minister for Employment and Social Welfare, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry, Hanna Tetteh.

Some leaders of the Convention People’s Party and the People’s National Convention also attended the reception. Source: MyjoyOnline.Com

    • @miss dior, I am hoping they will lose against the next team so they go home as sore losers. Suarez will be back for the nest game against Germany/Spain and he can keep on catching the ball as usual

  7. hahahahaa. who cares abt what K. Pratt thinks? the man is an unrepentant critique. so he has squandered a penalty so what? if another person had taken the penalty and missed, we the same Ghanaians wd have asked why Gyan didn’t take it? in any case, after the miss by Gyan, we were not out. we still had the opportunity to win from the spot kick. Gyan scored and guess what, someone who had never taken a penalty ( as far as my checks has proved) went and stood by the ball as if he was some kind of a penalty expert! a friend from Nigeria called me after Mensah’s kick and asked whether he was an expert. hahahaha John Mensah paa?

  9. Somebody was saying the package was too small. A cool 20k  in dollars is a great price. Plus the FIFA bonus? I think these players will be sleeping well.

  12. I can get myself to understand why some people find the performance of the black stars satisfactory.
It was a complete display of lack of expertise.
I wonder whether the stars were “cursed” not to produce goals. Their inability to convert valuable chances into remarkable goals make me weep for the future of the national team.
Just look at our game pattern…beating Serbia by just a loan goal, loosing agaisnt Germany, drawing with Australia and having to play 120 minutes on 2 occasions.
Our match with Uruguay should have been won with about 3 goals before the 90 minutes was over. But their inexperience nature resulted in undirected kicks to nowhere.

I am disappointed in them, and everyone should feel same.
I think they (black stars) should be grateful they were even welcomed after their mediocre performance.
