Okyeame Quophi Throws Out His Side Of Story Saying Akyeame Broke Up Due To Jealousy & Ill Advice + He Punches GhanaCelebrities.Com Saying We Are Bias..

Certainly all is not well between former members of the popular hiplife group of the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Akyeame. Following recent comments by Okyeame Quophi advising musicians not to form groups, and blaming Okyeame Kwame for their disbandment, his actions have been interpreted as bitterness in certain sections of the media.

However, the rapper/producer/video director/radio and TV presenter says he has too much going for him at the moment to be bitter or jealous about his former group member.

According to Quophi, he is very disappointed in the way the writer on Ghanacelebrities.com made him to look, just because he had expressed his general opinion on the issue of break ups in our music industry, citing Akyeame as an example.

“The story contains bias and it’s evident that, it was tailored to destroy me as a person and to speculate what my feeling probably is, concerning an issue I have refused to comment on for seven years. Seriously my decision not release records after ‘Quophilosophy’ was basically to allow my brother to have his shine since it looked like he was too hungry for it and anything from me would be destruction,” comments Okyeame Quophi.

“I have Emklan to run, a wife and two kids to take care of, a radio show every morning, a TV show every weekend, and other businesses and obviously don’t have any idle time to discuss people. Who I choose to be happy for is my prerogative and don’t think needs publishing. What the writer doesn’t know is, it was jealousy and ill advice of his sort and not diverse opinion that destroyed eleven years of blood sweat and tears that was used in making the Akyeame name. That is years of my life and money I am talking about. At the, end of the day, the writer is trying to make a name I guess.”

According to him, he and Okyeame Kwame were on cool terms before the release of his last album. He traces the root of any problem that may exist between the two to a number of factors.

“He lived in my house on and off for almost two months, sometimes with his dancers. He received any financial assistance he needed from me during the promotion of the album. That was the period we recorded the two new songs we have. If I am not miscalculating, he even impregnated his wife in my house. During his acceptance speech at Ghana Music Awards, who did he thank for allowing him stay in his house? Was it not KOD?”

Quophi adds that things got worse with the release of Obrafour’s controversial hit, ‘Kasiebo’

“Later his beef became, why I played Obrafuor’s Kasiebo so much on my radio show knowing the song was against him. As a good presenter, I put my choice of music last and rather satisfy the needs of my numerous listeners. What they want to hear is what I play. This I discussed severally with him and even together sought ways to curb the problem. As fate would have it, when people started talking about this same issue, he decided to play the devil’s advocate. He placed a call to my elder brother saying i had joined forces with others to pull him down. That I think is very funny.”

But even before ‘Kasiebo’, there appeared to be some dissatisfaction with Okyeame Kwame’s Ghana Music Award Song of the Year, ‘Woso’.  According to Quophi, the song in its entirety is just the Twi version of a song (Shake Dem Demons Off), which he produced for an American rap artiste by name Dark Side, when he was resident Recording and Mixing Engineer at All for Won Studios in Columbus Ohio, USA.

“I contracted a graphic designer friend of mine to pull a job for me on my computer. He discovered the song (the original by Dark Side), copied it and later played it to a Kumasi based radio presenter who later aired the song. As I speak, am still dealing with this graphic designer. If I had wanted to sabotage the progress of the song in any way, would I have waited till later? Why he didn’t call for clarification and went on to make those baseless accusations I don’t know.

He explains that he is only human and can only take so much; and that he can’t continuously be around people that always expect him to justify his every action.  Hence, he is better off apart.  According to Okyeame Quophi, solo acts stand a better chance of succeeding in the industry than groups, and he would not at this point in his life want to get himself involved in anything as such.

“When I agreed to do a come back album, it was for the fans of Akyeame who kept pushing for it. Unfortunately, it’s evidently beyond repairs and that cannot materialize. That Ghana Music Awards performance will be the last. I am done with it, and a name change is on the way. For my music, it’s gotten even better against the wish of the haters and will be putting out singles for my fans soon from my forth coming album, ‘Street Call’.

  2. You think he might have even impregenated his wife in your house, so what? Why these details? It’s good you helped him, but there are some stuff that should always remain between you two. Revealing everything doesn’t make you look better to people. This shows Okyeame Quophi has some bitter feelings about the brother.Okyeame Kwame has always been gentle, and I hope he wouldn’t also say anything bad about Okyeame Quophi. Two wrongs don’t make a right!

  3. Ya’ll hold up. I think for the first thing, we’re hearing something concrete as to why ’caused such a good group to break up. I think some of you are missing the point and calling Kofi bitter. I commented along those lines on the last article but then again, I didn’t know this much details. What I gathered in this article is that, he got fed up always explaining his actions and having to cater to his partner so they broke up. I think he brought up the fact that he impregnated his wife in his home to silently say/show that Kwame is ungreatful. Basically, he’s saying they were that close and he gave them that much platform to step on, by when the time came for Kwame to give thanks, he gave credit to his new found ‘helpers’ instead (KOD). Ya’ll need to read with a little keen eye and understand what’s going on. Jealousy and low self esteem always breaks up groups. Doesn’t matter who’s side it’s coming from. It’s a well known fact. But after reading this article of Kofi explaining his side, am starting to think that perhaps, Kofi is the one been demonized and portrayed as a hater so Kwame can get ahead. It happens. Quickest way to break up a friendship whereby one party is insecure, is to throw in money or pussy and it’s done. Hopefully Kwame will explain his side of the story ’cause clearly, he’s not looking good.

As far as his comment on Ghanacelebrities writing the article to  favor Kwame, no comments on that. You be the judge of that yourself.

    • @That Guy,

The Guy, nice comment by you but we only reported what was said by Kwame and patched it up with our own commentary (Opinion). Since when did an opinion become bias just because it is not siding with that of the other…

This is a dicey situation and no matter what one writes, your opinion would be seen by the other as bias or favoring the other..

True say Chris. It’s like a quarrel between two lovers. lol. Anything you say on one’s side looks like you’re taking sides with the other.I honestly think greed and jealousy have a lot to do with the break up but the more info they put out themselves, the more we’ll know.

I didn’t even know he gave you guys those comments in the last article, hence I said, as for how he feel about what you guys wrote, no comments. As a bona-fide mercenary, I don’t have a side and don’t take none. Am just observing like everyone else and piecing up what really could’ve gone done behind close doors based on their own saying. It’s always different behind the scenes that what’s really going on. But you know that

He sucks as a rapper..he sucks at everything,,look at his Emklan videos

    • @kofi Babone,
But the song, in actuality, was a remake of another artiste song and he didn’t give credit so isn’t that stolen? Though am not sure when Kofi blew Kwame’s cover on the ‘woso’ track been stolen but the fact still remains, he told the truth. What’s wrong with that? F what tracks Kofi is going to bring out. Am more interested in how Kwame’s going to come back from this one. Sources have indicated that this is real and not some pub stunt to it could get interesting.  Like Gambo said above, dude is not that good and over-rate himself too much. Those around you can big up your head all they want, it doesn’t necessary means that’s what those outside of your circles see. Obrafuor is a good rapper, Sarko’s got skills, OK calls Crunk music ‘crank music’, it shows ignorance and lack of knowledge of what he’s part of. Some call it like it is, some speak to please. Nokwer3 da ho na waka no pr3ko. Am not a fan of neither, I just call it what I see.

People, this guy simply bitter and jealous. Who cares if he impregnated his wife on the refuse dump? Quophi is too full of himself……Do u expect Kwame to name every single individual who has helped him in one way or the other on stage? He did not mention his mother, how about that.. Are important in his life than his mum.. Get a life fat ass boy. Talk of Woso, you to tell us that all the stuffs he talked about was in your so called english song? Nobody knows about a housemaid pounding fufu in America, so did u write that in the song…Lame!! I am very disappointed in you for showing how immature you are. May God continue to shine his favor on Okyeame Kwame and make him great and strong……WOSO ATANSO GU…..!!!!

  7. Seriously, Quophi needs to shut the hell up. Cos as far as we know, they separated and as to how it happened we don’t know neither do we car to know but what we know is Kwame is Shinning as the other is the opposite. So then why doesn’t he leave it like it is? In life people tend to help you in all ways and forms but not all of them will u acknowledge if you are made to give credit. So why should he feel so bitter about it? He should just encourage hm cos at least they were together and he still is making it so fans wont even know their issue. Quophi i like you a lot but you have Disappointed me.

  8. this crap coming from Quophi. Kwame was always the better rapper. the fact that you had money/resources doesn’t mean that you have talent. the real talent behind the Akyeame group has always been Kwame. Events following the break up of the group has shown. I don’t know what words to use to describe the Quophilosophy album. It was a huge failure to be charitable and that is the real reason you have failed to come out again. You are scared it will be another flop. Please don’t bother releasing another album or single. The industry can do without your kind of music.

“Seriously my decision not release records after ‘Quophilosophy’ was basically to allow my brother to have his shine since it looked like he was too hungry for it and anything from me would be destruction,”

We all know this is not true! To allow your brother to have his shine? Do you even understand this. Its not like you were making waves so that releasing an album at the same time as Kwame will stiffle his. Even Kojo Antwi and DL have not said they refused to release because they wanted others to hit. The cheek of it. Let’s face it, you were not superstars but Kwame was definately better than you. Grow up!

      • @kwadwo, well said bruv. godfather is not and will never be a fan on quophi. to come out to make such ludicrous comments beggars belief.  listening to his track “shake that thing” its no wonder, he decided to take a break. its not because he wanted others shine, its only because he can neither sing nor rap. so he tried some event management and music video directing, and the least said bout that the better.

  12. Listen if a man has displayed maturity for a seven year period and decides to spill the beans, you should carefully study his remarks ( not read ).
This young man has been accused of being jealous of someone, (which is detrimental in any given situation) and he has given clear reasons why under no circumstance will he be that.Studying all he answered in your interview as a psychologist, there’s genuineness and no ill intentions on the young man’s behalf. If a friend stands behind u in all things and avails himself to u in all the described instances, there cannot be enmity, bitterness, or grieve in the circumstance. From what i have gathered on Quophi on the internet since am using the situation as a case study, he is a man of talents and has business poise. At the time of the break up,Quophi was a radio presenter, had a recording studio business going, and his was in a better financial position than his brother.Kwame on the other hand had nothing but his Rap.That is basis for jealousy and bitterness, and could push or trigger a break up.I think both of them are great young fantastic men that can achieve a lot together.

    • @Dr Ama Bisa Accra, NO what you saying makes no sense. As a matter of fact talent is not about yor financial situation. And the fact that you helped out someone and does not mention you name does not mean you are not appreciated. On me also using the case as a study i realized there is jealousy within Quophi but he cant open up to say cos of Kwame’s talent or anything but rather he chooses to use these critics against him which doesn’t make sense. Kwame is the best no doubt and Quophi should be rather happy cos at least he helped Kwame out instead of wishing it was him and clearly thus a true definition of jealousy and bitterness.
