Dear Madam,
LADY PAID GH12 FOR FEATURING IN A HOT MUSIC VIDEO IN WHICH SHE APPEARS ALMOST NAKED, AFTER BEING PROMISED GH 600 BY THE PRODUCER. THIS SHOULD STOP IMMEDIATELY
On Saturday 28th of August, 2010, a 24 year old lady approached the executives of the Ghana Youth Movement to tell her sad story and plead for help in her ordeal. About four months ago she met a guy who introduced himself as a big time producer of top music videos in the country and asked her if she would want to be in one. After other appointments with him and with a promise of paying her GH 600, she accepted the offer. After shooting the video in which she posed almost naked, she was given GH12 for transport home with the promise that she will be called back for her payment. Four months on, and she has not been paid after several efforts by her to claim what she is due from the producer even though she has seen the video being shown on television.
Upon a research done by GYM, this is just a tip of the iceberg. Many of these ladies who are used in these videos are paid peanuts or not paid at all by these producers. The enthusiasm of being seen in a popular music video or becoming popular do not even let them think about the financial benefit they should get from these acts. Acting is a profession in which many of these women can have full and part time jobs. However, if care is not taken they will always be exploited by these producers for their own benefit. Music is a profession, and all that goes with it makes it better for entertainment. Without the Music videos, most of these songs wouldn’t have got the market that they are getting and so should pay those that makes it possible their due.
We have giving the producer two weeks to pay the young lady and also to take the Video from being shown on TV until the matter is settled. GYM will pursue this matter in court should the producer fails to pay her within the two weeks period. We have also decided to monitor the television stations, and in each time that video is shown, it will attract additional income to the lady.
We are therefore pleading to your office Hon Minister, to intervene on behalf of these women who are being seriously exploited by these so called producers to pose almost nude in videos and pay them peanuts. We should not always use economic reasons to be the bases of our woes every time we find ourselves in these situations.
Our advice to our ladies is that, please if somebody invite you to take part in any Music Video, you have to sign a written contract with the producer or whoever is in charge of what is due you before you do whatever you are supposed to do. It will be much wiser if half of the payment is done before you shoot and the rest after shooting.
Your body is worth more than this and don’t make yourself so cheap because of economic reasons.
We hope you will take steps to meet all the music producers in the country to put this problem before hand and to take steps to correct them and not to exploit these young ladies because of ignorance.

Well it’s a said story and yet some ghanians will never learn to stop that big talks all the time I mean they make those innocent girls strip almost naked or sleep with them just to appear in a video or movie yet mist videos are so cheap and so fake and why has the girls always have to be naked in videos why can’t they just make a normal video and show the beauty of African lady these local boys and producers that are thinking that the so high and above all because of money will be there down fall one day life us already hard there for some people and yet they still go around bragging lying to innocent girls for a better lyfe or payment it’s time Africans stand up to all those so called money man we can do better than that to my Nubians all I can say is prayers help education help more than that fast life think before you do something don’t put your self in a situation you can handle but remember GOD can put you in a situation and easily take you out and blesses you with it next time someone approach you makes sure he is genuine and before doing something stupid or go naked show the person that your from a good house and that there is always a contract read it trough before acting all up you don’t need to be naked to go trough all those drama it’s your image your bringing down while he is making those deniro all those greed need to stop

@Miyagi, So true man. You are right. Many of these young ladies sleep with many music or movie ” big men” thinking they about to hit their big break but it usually turns out the opposite and there’s nothing they can do to these men. Look at somebody like RIHANNA, if people think she came from Barbados, then just with her “lovely voice” became an international star they are mistaken, go find out how many music producers and CEOs she has slept with— big number. Same for this girl called EAZZY.. she has obviously slept with quite a few to get to where she is. It’s a sad world

@ghallday,True that I’m with you all the way there is more to achieve than all those television debute tat people want to achieve but it’s time we all start educating our self very well and for those Ghanians man that go back to the mother land by giving young girls big big stories about what they have achieve who they no and all kind of **** and bull story they tell just to get in their pants it will happen to their daughters one day when they have one @gossip mama it’s a good topic I’m impress but yet you really didn’t have to put that picture above it we really don’t want to see any useless girls chicken but

thats called being a video vixen (hoe)… your not promised to get paid unless you signed a contract saying so. you are in it because your image in the video will make it more appealing thus get more viewings and sell more music… **** sells didn’t yall know that, and if the woman is foolish enough to shake her azz in a thong for all those to see and not get embarr****ed, then more power to her. If she wants to get paid then sell yourself accordingly

once an industry begins to grow, all players must knw how the game is played. ders something called “CONTRACT” in every business deal. contracts can be verbal or written.it’s not only dese ladies who’re bein xploited. how many of us have not gone into agreements( verbal) with other people and after the job is done go against wht was agreed. ladies and gentlemen, verbal contracts are valid so once u enter into one wif someone,have that in mind.
it’s gud the GYM has taken this up n i wish dem well cos goin to court is a very stressful n frustrating venture in our part of the world.
i’ll just advice the ladies that, before u enter into any form of agreement, have a witness around.since people believe more in the written form of agreement, get whtever is being discussed and agreed on paper and signed by both parties together wif witnesses.these producers get paid big money for these videos so get your pound of flesh frm dem, don’t show your **** for free.

The problem with some of these gals is the urgency to become rich overnight.They just want to be famous & rich so as to be able to buy expensive cars, houses, dresses and at all cost.I feel so sad that this is happening in GH as a result of over westernisation and copying blindly.Dis does not happen in only our music videos cos our recent movies are cl****ic examples of dis problem.
