New Ghanaian Movie: Adults Only

New Ghanaian Movie: Adults Only

Sometimes it bothers my intellect if certain movie producers can ever sell a copy of their movies without SEX scenes in Ghana.

A movie titled “Adults Only” will be hitting our screens soon and to my astonishment, it has veteran actors in there. People I respect so much in the movie industry that I dare even throw a dust of words at them. Hmmm!

I guess it is the order of the day so they are all doing it to cash in some money. It is called “Adults Only” yet the trailer is on YouTube where my 6 year old cousin lives day in and day out.

Who is going to make sure the movie which seems to be centred purely on countless and pointless sex scenes would be watched by Adults Only in Ghana?. Soon it will find its way unto the various numerous Ghanaian movie websites and then every little child can watch it…

PG or no PG, we do not need these story-lines in Ghana, what has happened to our creative prowess? This is creativity at its weakest point. Hot Fork sold out so here comes another one…. Can’t move away from all these sex story-lines and tell our stories in a colourful manner? Does it always have to be about SEX?

when you look at the list of the box office all time grossing movies; avatar, titanic, the dark knight in that order. none of these are based on the “sex sells” mythology. I am just sad, that fat dude….erm forgotten his name, choose to play a part in such a movie. if he is finding it difficult to get staring roles, this will surely not help his faltering acting career.  fat dude needs to get rid of his love handles and flabs, maybe it may do the trick. average directors and producers come up with average movies at best and garbage as standard. good directors and producers…..well you can see the vast difference yourselves. i must admit im no movie fan, but have a look at leila djansi for eg and you realise some people including the director of this pile of poo are in the wrong profession. The censorship board need not allow these scumbags to continue to spew garbage.

@dagodfather, I agree wid u totally. But no one should be surprised cos it’s from dat pervert Socrate Safo.I’m however disappointed in veteran actors like Naana Hayford & Psalm Adjetefio cos I heard Naana on radio condemning such movies so why the sudden turn around. The reason is simple, money.I’m very sad dat the professional filmmakers and those from the school of performing arts at legon have left dis 4 these greedy people. As 4 Socrate he even said no matter what people will but so he’ll keep on making crappy movies

you ain’t never lied. pure gospel you’re preaching here. I can’t remember dudes name either but I thought he was regarded as one of the ‘pioneers’ and hold some weight(no pun intended) in the industry.

lol@he needs to get rid of his love handles and flabs. hahaha. I just couldn’t let that go unlaughed at. hahahaha

This is sad. But, with all that said, I’ll still watch this movie for free to see what it’s all about or why they’re so hungry and trynna steer the industry into porno land.

@That Guy, Chuckylee and kalito, well said brethren.

im just wondering how desperate these so called “pioneers” must have been to actually take up these roles up after reading the scripts, that is if they had any. when “real directors” take months and years to bring out something ingenious, all this cockroach does is get some out of date clowns and cashew nut sellers to make a mockery of creativity.

    [Reply]

    That Guy Reply:

    @Theyremove,
I guess they couldn’t get any ‘zitless’ actress to do the explicit scene. If you’ll go that far and push the envelope, at least make it tasteful. This just leaves too much to be desired and it’s a sad attempt at best. They could’ve save the money spent on this movie for some orphanage. :)

The Lady making ‘Sinking Sands’ should be study and imitated like she’s a like good rapper. The trailer for her new flick really blew me away. She made me feel bad about my initial thought that Ama K.Abebrese is not a leading role actress. this is what the power of creativity is about. Making the what others think it’s impossible manifesting into something possible. The producers of this one however did not do good. That newly form “censorship” board needs to be examined with a magnifying glass quickly.

The sex scene with the fat man having sex looks like a bear attacking somebody. scary shit and it wasn’t censored. why?

I don’t understand why Chris would put up the trailer of these movies that he is opposed. Is that giving them free promotion? One more thing, isn’t this a family oriented site so why do you guys insist on putting up the clips? Can’t you just do a write up without posting the vid clips? It seems like you guys are secret closet freaks. You say one thing but your action is completely the opposite of what you are preaching. I thinnk you would be more discrete and use prudence on this subject. This is not the first time I’ve seen it on GC. Don’t be hypocritical I think you secretly enjoy these movies, if you didn’t you would be posting the trailers. The trailers are not necessary to speak out against porn in Ghana. Remember children have access to your site. Practice what you preach.

I can perfectly understand why most of us would be offended by the seemingly lewd and pornographic scenes in this new movie.

In spite of how distasteful this might be, we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact, that cultural adulteration is inevitable as globalisation continue to pervade every facet of our society.

The direction movies have taken lately, offer a bleak glimpse into the future and foretell how the core values of what we hold decent, would eventually become eroded and tainted by the ills of Playboy and Hollywood.

Having said that, we should also be cognizant of the harsh realities:

How do we convince the actor with kids to feed that playing the porn role is not the way forward?

Would you rather the ladies in this movie became “real ashawos” as supposed to playing lesbian in the movie to make ends meet?

Look, let’s not kid ourselves— it is a fact that the media thrives on sensation. Would we have given this movie a cursory glance if the director hadn’t employed this theme? The answer is emphatic, NO!

I subscribe to the idea that sex sells, and don’t see it as mythological. The sex movie industry makes more money than Hollywood could ever dream of. Period.

And for those of you taking the moral high-ground, spare me the hypocrisy. Just because you do not like the movie doesn’t mean it has to be bad for everybody. Allow people to watch for themselves and make up their own mind. It smacks off arrogance and condescension to use your moral compass to dictate what others can view by suggesting a form of ban.

As long as the Government implements a thorough regulation to ensure proper classification and rigorously enforce them, there should be no problem as these movies would only be assigned to an adult audience.

I believe in a mild form of censorship but extreme form of censorship can greatly stifle innovation. Sanity is the only ground for the unimaginative. To be creative, sometimes we have to transcend the borders of sanity into the realms of the unknown which can offer delightful surprises.

Will i ever see this movie? Probably not. Why? Because it looks boring. But what i won’t do is call the director a scumbag or summon the censorship board to ban it. That would be naive.

I think it is not fair how Ghanaians writers and producers nowadays produce such movies, they could first think about the image of Ghana. For cryingout loud Ghana is a Christian Country and we don’t have to produce such a movie. Think about the image of Ghanaians first.

    [Reply]

    Kingtek Reply:

@Lee, Even Iraq, Suadi and the rest have Christians there……..i think is not right for you to say Ghana is a Christian country cuz our muslim brothers could get upset……hey im a christian myself but its just not right to say that. cuz i know the producer of this movie is a christian, and even the writer who posted it on here is also a christian so what are you talking about? i think the best thing to do as a good christian is not to read articles with the heading Adults Only……cuz they might contain stuff u dont wana see.

When ugly people act in dumb scenes like these, there is only one outcome: Bullshit and outright clumsiness. These pointless, unappealing soft porns Ghanaian films have become show the total brankruptcy of creativity in our so-called film industry.

    [Reply]

@D K, hmm , not only that , the so called nollywood will get us on this one , and i wont be here to defend ghana when they start bashing us up cos we deserve it! we r the same ppl who will crave to watch it , instead of staging demontration against the release of this movie , ppl will be runing to go and see their ” local champions” at the premier..

    [Reply]

    D K Reply:

@goodies, it’s about time the government took a critical look a the film sector. There are trained filmmakers with right ideas who can make decent films that Ghanaians all over the world would be proud of. Filmmaking is a very expensive enterprise and with the banks unwilling to finance films, it will be nigh-impossible for competent Ghanaian filmmakers to truly tap into their creativity. The filmmakers should perhaps march to the castle and demand their share of the national pie.

We should rather use our movies to encourage our people towards science, techology, creativity, inovation, and entrepreneurship etc … God bless Ghana
