Ghana’s Film Regulatory Council Upheld Yvonne Nelson’s 1 Year “Ban” Yesterday: Goodbye Homegirl, See You Next Year!

Yvonne Nelson
Yvonne Nelson

I have been chipped the information that, the “Film Regulatory Council” of Ghana made up of various  industry ballers met somewhere in Akosombo yesterday to discuss Yvonne Nelson’s final faith. I guess when you offend so many people around you, everyone help to push you in the nearest available  gutter.

Yvonne Nelson to some extent until yesterday had a little hope. It was a matter waving away the BAN,  reducing the length or upholding it.  Karma they say is a bitch and it surely “bitched up” Yvonne Nelson as the members of the Film Regulatory Council could not find any reason to help her rather than to uphold the RED card which kicks her out of the game for a year.

A whole year without arrogance, disrespect and insults from Yvonne Nelson sound amazing and fun. Until next year,  it is a goodbye to Yvonne Nelson and her attitude. Now, home girl can do some serious meditation and damage control.

I am not sure if her BAN comes with or without parole. Whatever it is,  the elders have spoken and their words are final. I didnt BAN her, neither did I ask her to insult anyone so spare me the GC this, GC that. She dug her own hole and she deserves to sleep peacefully in it without dragging anyone into her stinking mess!

  4. Being banned in this so-called industry is nkwasias3m kuraa(nonsense). It sucks big time. Even the all mighty Hollywood doesn’t do that. How the hell do u ban someone from this day-care industry? we can’t even make simple good movies and u ban someone out? I feel for this girl man. It might be true that she is arrogant but still how the hell do u ban her from this yawa industry that needs serious growth? I MEAN WHAT THE HELL? Instead of these producers to start making good movies they are more interested in banning someone. I bet they are very proud of themselves now that they’ve achieved in kicking her out but can’t even show one damn movie they are proud of. oh golly my gollible golly wood, such a JOKE. I will rather see yvonne nelson’s display her arrogance in public than buy a movie from this industry. It makes no damn sense hmmm. One thing I know for sure is that this girl will survive whether she stops her arrogance or not. Don’t we all have some ugly trait in us?

    • @nanayaa, Rightly said. People are criticising Yvonne as if they are angels. We all have some ugly side to us.

The entire indistry is a joke. Have u even checked who d executives of this producers association are? Idikoko, Socrates Sarfo…..and I bet Harry Laud must be with them too…lol

      They are JOKES in deed.

      • @Akosua, hahhahaha waa hw3. idikoko and socrate sarfo are executives of producers association? I’m not surprise why our industry is such a joke. In some way, im kinda relieve because once we get those executives out of their positions, we can start taking the industry serious and perhaps start making real good movies. lol where the hell is Harry Laud, I haven’t heard from him in ages. funny how the “hot fork” man himself socrate sarfo is running our industry with Idikoko.lmao

    • This is very true, u have spoken well, Yvonne will survive whether she’s banned or not……if the producers will tell the truth, she has sold millions of copies of their movies for them……. Yvonne is still my darling@nanayaa,

  5. It’s d so-called industry’s loss. How many good actors and actresses are these myopic producers using?
Everyday it’s d same old faces. They should take a cue from Shirley Frimpong Manso and start using new talent. What they don’t realise is that Yvonne is not as over-exposed as Jackie and therefore banning her is a huge mistake.
People are tired of this ‘gbengbentus’ producers. SOme of them have no class anyway…..with movies like ‘gbengbentus’ hot fork and stuff……

I hope this will give the girl more time to focus on her glocauma project and give back 2 society.

    Ghana movies suck anyway.

    • @Akosua, I agree. I think the likes of Frank raja, socrate sarfo and all the wacky producers and directors needs to be banned too or suspended for ever until they get their act together and start making good movies. How about that?

      • @nanayaa, bless u , just hope jackie get all the roles in their god damn wacky tacky movies, thats why i i never buy ghana movies, and why will i buy it when its free on the net even that, my time is too expensive for it, the nerve of gollyfcukingwood banning an actress, twiaa kai!!

Yvonne is a Star and they cant just stand her……

The ban has done some good to our motherland.Next time give the due respect to your superiors and bear it in mind that even Genevive,Ramsey and Jim Ike were banned for showing disrespect.Mind you, this is Africa and precisely Ghana where respect is one of our values.

    • @kwadwo,

There is a body called the  Film Regulatory Council of Ghana (FRCG). I stated that in my first sentence “Film Regulatory Council of Ghana” but in my subsequent lines, I decided not to repeat it that way and went for Ghana’s  Film Regulatory Council. T

o be frank, it does not make any difference to me and it is because of my intention to write it as such that I stated it as it should be in the opening paragraph. Don’t you think you will be bored reading the post if I mentioned the same name  about 4 or more times?

    • @gosh,

Peacefm is saying she is NOT Banned, but sanction which means ” a mechanism of social control for enforcing a society’s standards”, I do not see any difference between sanctioning her so that she would not be used as an actress and banning her. I personally believe the 2 words can be inter changeably used in her context and as such settled for the latter.

      Reply
      • @Author: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, i disagree with u Chris on using the two words interchangeably. as a lawyer in training yourself, you shd not make that statement. the real question is whether they have the power to ban her. they don’t. that is why they are not using the word ban. now they are saying that they are not going to use her in movies for one year. if that is all they wanted, then the group, as powerful as they claim to be could have gone ahead and blacklisted her without making a public show of it. if all the key stakeholders are involved including film distributors, then they didn’t need a public declaration to effect their intentions. i think that they initially thought that they had the powers to ban her, realised that they don’t and now have taken the decision not to use her. why tell the whole world? answer: they had to because the council was not composed of all the stakeholders so by putting the story out to gain public support, other influential filmakers will be forced not to use her. if all the big men wer involved, they could have taken the decision without anybody knowing. the trust of the peacefm story is that they have resolved not to use her. that shd have ended the matter. it is a disgrace that people like socrates safo who makes porn movies has the audacity and moral courage to talk about banning somebody. the filmakers themselves ought to check themselves. what a shame!

        • I am not discussing whether it is intra vires or ultra vires when it comes to their powers. That is not my concern. One person can even decide to ban her from appearing in his production. It is your opinion and that is what the comment box is for so thanks for commenting. I do not think you expect me to say Ghana’s Film Regulatory Council Of Ghana.

i was referring to the use of ban which u said is interchangeable with sanction. they cannot ban her, that is for sure. they can only refuse to use her. if i decide that due to the way a mobile operator has treated me, i will not use that operator for a year, it is not a ban and i think as a law student, u shd set it right. it is only bcos of your background that i say these things. a higher standard is expected of you than others who are not ‘learning to be learned’

    • If one person can ban someone by refusing to use her in his production, why cant a group of people ban her by refusing to use her in their productions? Geez!. Get a good dictionary…

I see where your problem is,your argument is that, they cannot BAN her in the entire Ghana Movie industry, but that does not mean they cannot BAN her in their productions. Get it right!

      Reply
      • @Author: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, your fixation with undoing her has led you in again. shame on you. now you admit they cannot ban her in the entire movie industry? do you remember your first story on this issue? you stated categorically that she has been banned for one year in ghana and nigeria. now you are saying they are banning her from their movies? who needs a good dictionary? you think because you have the resources to set up this website so you can write anything here and people shd take it like that. learn to take criticism and admit that your initial story about the ban was highly exagerated, even including nigeria. now is the GFRC going to enforce the ban there too? Yvone, I think deserves a wake up call if her conduct is that bad and she needs to be talked to seriously. i still maintain that the GGRC needs to be checking within themselves and take appropriate measures against their own too. I retch to think that the porn mafia is part of those who imposed the ‘ban’. they shd turn their attention to the quality of films they churn out, some even plagiarised without even acknowledging the authors.

Look ppl there is a prblm on de line which needs attention n needs to be solve.Let us stop de bias n give a constructive comments. This is how i see the de issue tht is going on now.Wht if they let Yvonnes disrespectuful conducts go unpunish dont u guyz think there mite be chaos in our movie industry if sum1 shld hve or imtiate de same conduct. If an apple or tomatoe has a bad part do we throw away de whole thing or jst cut off de bad part.So forumites for our movie industry to go high or de next level we need descipline.we dont hve to allow a bad part of a food contaminate de whole thing.so if this so called GFRCG sees tht banning is wht will take care of de prblm(tho i dont agree with de length) n will follow de same procedure if some other actresses n actors behave dis same way then so be it.So ppl dont let us deviate frm dis particular issue n start blaming sum1 else, bcos dis Yvonne’s issue does not only revolve Jackie(not a fun) not coming on board but draws way back with other producers.N sum1 was talking abt hw we all do hve mistakes(bad part) or we imperfect yes i agree but we shldnt let tht get in our way of doing business with others.u going into a business u dont come with uur attitude u live it in uur house or on de way.hey i personally like de way Yvonne acts but with her rudness to others its all comes to Zero.so i dont see Yvonnes bann making Jackie gain anything we hve many talented actresses n actors both home n abroad working their way up n they will aslo need a job.We all need to criticize n praise where it is due.my perspective case close

    • @Semi-Cartermatic,

people are complaining not abt the ‘ban’ or whatever they will choose to call it. there are other issues to this. if she misbehaved, well then, she is paying the price for it. the real issues are as follows; was she given an opportunity to defend herself against the allegations, why were the producers themselves using her all this while inspite of her alleged conduct, on the particular issue in qn, why wasn’t she told ahead of time that some other actrsses/actors will be absent, what moral authority does people like socrates ‘porn’ safo to ban people on their behavior? why is GC so happy abt the ‘ban’? looShe dug her own hole and she deserves to sleep peacefully in it without dragging anyone into her stinking mess!k at this sentence and the language used the author here:

‘She dug her own hole and she deserves to sleep peacefully in it without dragging anyone into her stinking mess!’ is that the way to objectively report on a story? what stinking mess are they talking abt? if she is that stinking, why do they continually write abt her and use her name to attract readers? GC has an agenda against her and it will be better if they admit it so that we know the perspective they are coming from. otherwise, they shd stop pretending as if they are objective in their coverage of the stories. whilst at it, dare i ask why GC and some people are jumping abt in glee at the misfortune of others?

      Reply
      • @kwadwo, very well said. its an open secret GC has issues with yvonne, GC can deny it all day but its a fact anyone can point this out. but the loser here is not just yvonne but GC too. Gc’s post regarding her are so biased it dont take a jss graduate to figure this out. slagging her off on your platform dont make you “winners.

GC and the celebs can still have a good relationship ( it dont mean you dont criticise when need be) but be impartial and objective! falling out with all the celebs in ghana isnt a good start.

        Reply
        • Long time, How are you? GC is bias. We never said we are not. I have stated on my profile that I am bias but realistic in the face of my partiality.

I have never come across a blog that has no issue with a celeb. I never expected everyone there to be on good terms with us nor should we be in the good books of all of them. Surely, every paper or website has what its readers consider the fav and non fav of the paper or site.

Readers will come up with so many things. The best is to leave them to keep speculating and saying their minds.

We do and have built up very good relations with celebs who are worth that relationship.

          Reply
        • im good bruv hope u r too. i appreciate GC will not be every celebs  cup of tea, this happens almost everywhere; fegie has boycotted bbc for years after a panorama doc, eminem had issues with benzino and the source mag among others but all that godfather is saying is its better to try and build good relationships with all the celebs out there than “try to alienate them” their celeb status and your premier ghana number one celeb blog site thrives on each other.

i understand it can be  frustrating when all our celebs want is complimentary posts and see anything otherwise as a personal attack. as a celeb you life is open to public scrutiny thus should be able to take on both compliments and criticisms. but as a blog site, you also have to be abit circumspective.

  24. The Film producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) is gradually positioning itself properly in the industry as they have started issuing sanctions to industrial players who go contrary to their laid down rules and regulations. Actress Yvonne Nelson has been caught in their web and finding it difficult to come to terms with her sanction.
Flex newspaper reporters were on set when the fracas between Abdul Salam and Yvonne Nelson started at Spintex road. Though members in the camp of Venus films tried to solve the fracas in doors, things did not work out until the issue went out of hand.
This pushed Venus Boss Abdul Salam to report the incidence to the Film Producers Association of Ghana and although they did not issue any official statement on banning her, rumors making the rounds is that, they have warned their members not to use the leggy actress in their movies for one year. This they want to do till the actress will turn on a new leaf and to apologize through a press conference.
According to Flex newspaper informant, he made it known that FIPAG have not issued any statement of ban on the actress but the topic has been discussed about banning her and if she does not do the necessary thing within some period of time, then the statement of ban will be put on her for one year.
The informant continued that the reason for her ban is not only because of Abdul Salam but other things she has done to other producers. “She knows what she is supposed to do so we hope she will do it before the Film Producers association of Ghana will sit on her issue once again” he told Flex newspaper.
In a chit chat with Yvonne Nelson, she made it known to Flex newspaper that whatever happened between her and Salam is just like a father and daughter affair, so she hopes they will solve it amicably in their own way. She stated that there will be an official statement from her soon through a press conference to her fans and well wishers to stay calm. The Media Relations Officer of FIPAG Mr Socrate Safo was contacted for confirmation on the ban issue but he stated that he has little to say on the issue since the hierarchy of the association has not sat on it when the story came out. “I think the best thing for us to do is to sit on the case as executives before we will know our official position on the Yvonne Nelson issue” Socrate added.
Some members of a subtle actors group known as the Screen actors guild have also extended their plea on the issue to the powers that be. Their main problem was that when issues of this nature goes out of the country, it affects the whole acting industry in Ghana which can also affect their international relations. “We wish the producers will exercise patience on this issue so it does not get out of hands” they added.
