Viasat1, Ghana’s leading entertainment television channel has launched a brand new viewer-focused, interactive website this month. The site, www.viasat1.com.gh, is designed in direct response to Viasat 1’s research into increasing internet penetration in Ghana and the desire to leverage this platform to increase “top-of-mind” awareness for the channel.

Viasat 1 Chief Executive Rune Skogeng says: “As a consumer oriented and research driven company, we have always tracked the growth of other interactive media with keen interest and the results have influenced the new website design, content and functionality.”

Smooth-voiced musician Kwabena Kwabena, last Sunday had an extraordinary wedding ceremony with his new-found love of his life, Abena Owusuwaa, though memories of his ‘talk-of-the-town’ wedding with a female nurse, Esther, is still fresh on people’s minds.

NEWS-ONE reports indicate that Kwabena and his new wife were officially joined together at His Majesty’s Hotel, near the Ghana International Trade Fair Center in Accra.

Have you for a moment paused to ponder over the startling rate at which our society is swiftly becoming “Americanized”? Love it or hate it, this is a reality supposed to persist until the very foundation of globalization is broken.

Today, American hip culture finds its head at every corner of the globe- urban fashion is not only seen on the streets of New York but in the corner joints in Seoul, Tehran and Cairo lately.

Ghana is no exception to this phenomenon with the entire nation being consumed by human antics and mannerisms purported to be American or Western.

Finally, it has been confirmed to us that Rhian Benson, the adorable songstress mostly remembered for her hit “Say How I Feel” which broke her into the Top 10 of the US R&B charts and Top 30 in the UK National charts, along with many other accolades is due to give her fans in Ghana a Christmas treat at a highly anticipated Pre-launch of her new album ‘Hands Clean’ at the plush Citizen Kofi Hollywood Center on Thursday 30^th December.

Weekly Discussion, Let’s Get Talking: What Do You Hate Most About African Movies?

I can surely pull a long list of the various things I detest in African movies especially those of Ghanaian origin. I guess you have your list of things that annoy and irritate your “bum” any time you sit to watch Ghanaian Movies.

One of my friends said; watching a Ghanaian movie nowadays is like a long prison sentence. It never ends with its repetitive punishments.

What puts me off is the usual “bootleg” British/America accent. No matter how hard these Actors and Actresses try with their fake accents, it comes out like a Chinese married to a German living in Libya and trying to speak English.

It is even worse if the Nigerians try it. The thick Nigerian English accent with traces of Yoruba and Igbo forced to sound like American puts me off completely.
