Asem Vrs Lynx Entertainment: Did Asem Say Lynx Entertainment Is A Recording Studio & Not A Record Label? Was He Really Sacked?

There are two sides of a story; whoever comes out first to air out his views is believed as the one who is right until the other party steps in to voice out his side. At this stage, readers or listeners are left to make their decisions as to who is right and who is wrong. But if you wear the favouritism spectacles, then your judgment would be bias.

Lynx Entertainment, the youngest record [studio] label in Ghana issued out a press statement indicating reasons why they have decided to drop one member of the label popularly known as Asem. The label stated their reasons for the decisions to drop the GMA 2009 Discovery of the Year recipient.

The reasons according to the label were that, they [Lynx Entertainment] have had lots of differences in opinion as to the direction his [Asem] career should go.

According to them, the artiste has been under a new management and certain decisions taken by the artiste and his new management have not represented the general image the record label [Lynx] wishes to portray.

The last reason according to the label has to do with the fact that keeping Asem on the label would limit him from pushing his career in the direction that he sees fit.

However, it wasn’t stated that, the label is parting ways with the artiste because of his alleged rape case but some media houses have twisted the core aim of the statement and painted a rather dark image and sighting the rape case as the reason for his expulsion from the label.

Speaking to the new publicist of Asem, Nii Ayitey Okai, he expressed his disappointment, shock and wondered the importance of the statement issued by Lynx Entertainment.

He told GhanaCelebrities.Com “The press release has painted several things that when we were doing our job as a new team, [Lynx] direction for Asem’s career was different from our direction for Asem.”

According to him, Asem’s contract was supposed to have ended in November 2011 but the rapper wasn’t so enthused about renewing his contract with the label.

“So we felt there was a clash and so in the interest of Asem and for the benefit of the whole squad, then it will be better for him to move and be with the new team.” He said.

Also, Asem felt that the label [Lynx] didn’t serve his interest, so he thought of leaving so he can set up his own label ‘Wo Be Da Ntem’. He further disagreed that, his artiste was sacked from the label.

He said the press statement issued by the label was not necessary since the two parties are working closely together for the rapper’s transition to his new management.

“We need to set the records straight that, Asem was not sacked or dropped. It was a mutual agreement between Lynx and Asem that from last year, he has wanted to leave, so how do you fire him then? He asked.

When asked whether he is aware that his artiste had said with hostility that his former label is a recording studio and not a record label. Nii acknowledged that, that was partly one of the reasons why Asem wanted to move out from the label.

“That is partly true too; you know what record labels are supposed to do. Record labels are supposed to have a holistic managerial system that takes care of artistes on your label. Their everyday things, their in and out stuff, their welfare aside from their musical side.” He continued “And truly, I don’t find such a label here in Ghana. So if he has said that, he hasn’t erred.” Nii concluded.

Though he didn’t say what direction they will be taking Asem’s career, the question many music enthusiasts are asking is: Didn’t Asem know that Lynx Entertainment is a recording studio and not a record label? And didn’t he know he was wasting his own time there after realizing that? What’s on your mind?

  1. i’m realli amazed at dis new direction. i listened to Asems PRO on Peace Fm yesterday around 4:00 and he said the reason for the split was cos of the new direction they(new team) wanted to explore for Asem. when he was asked about the new direction, he said Lynx Entertainment wasn’t into the idea of selling Asem outside the shores of Ghana but rather concentrating on the local market. He said the new team found dis not in the best interest of Asem since to dem, he is a very marketable commodity on the international market. i don’t know where dis new twist of Lynx not being a record label is coming from. one question, in every interview he’s granted didn’t he say dat he was signed unto Lynx Entertainment???
dis makes me believe dat yes indeed he was sacked.so is his outfit a record label????
