Separated at Birth or Style Stalker: Nadia Buari & Beyonce Knowles

blank

I was looking at pictures from the just concluded AY Live show in Lagos, and all I could think was how much Nadia in her blonde weave and grey dress favours the bootylicious one…Beyonce!

The resemblance is uncanny from their caramel skin (which depending on who you talk to could be attributed to skin lightening products) to their hairstyles.

It’s anyone’s guess who is copying who here….as they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

So what do you think? Seperated at Birth? Or Style Stalker?

You be the judge, more photos below.

  1. obviously its Beyonce cannot copy Nadia so Nadia is doing de copying..i think after her movie Beyonce, she decided 2 den really imitate Beyonce’s looks..dey r both beautiful young women doing their thg..ba Nadia shd just b herself a lil cos Beyonce might sue her for copyright..lol..jk

    • @cici, Beyonce doesn’t hv time to sue someone for imitating/copying her, she may even like it that a Ghanaian star is copying her, but I understand your point and I agree with. Imagine if Nadia was to do an interview and the host points out that she is an image, in style, of Beyonce. Beyonce will shine even in Nadia’s light and Nadia will look like a Beyonce imitator. Nadia can take some inspiration from Beyonce but to copy her is a no no. Stars originate not imitate.

  2. The hair styles really look good on Nadia, if she is coping, then she is blessed to have found the right person to copy. Some people copy and ruin themselves, but this one is a winner. I love it.

  4. Nadia is not copying B there are millions of  (light skin) girls looking like B just because she made it to the top doesn’t mean like Nadia or anyone else is copying her period

  5. So ok I think I will get some hits on this one but as always I will speak my mind comes what may….

    …………………………….
Dear Nadia, you are obviously a beautiful young woman, no one will deny that. Are you more beautiful than most,? That depends on who you ask. I see a lot of comments on GC that basically highlight your complexion, and well beauty goes well beyond complexion. That’s is the truth. As far as looking at the pictures associated with this story, I am led to believe that you admire Beyonce and may even be inspired by her sense of fashion and style. As a ‘star’ you should know that one of the key elements of being a ‘star’ and even a ‘superstar’ is to have your own style. Never copy another ‘star’s’ style. Copying someone’s style says quite alot. Like, you do not know who you are as a person. It also says that you do not know what it means to be a ‘star/celebrity’. A celebrity is often imitated but never duplicated. So please Ms. Buari, find you. A lot of people admire you and it would be wonderful for once if we can see the ‘real Nadia’ stand up. Girl, make a unique statement that the rest of the world can try to imitate. Look at people who have set trends, it is because they know who they are and they never, let me reiterate, NEVER, imitate or copy another of their peer. Please, find you, be you and demonstrate you. Your imitation of Beyonce is good but girl you are lost in the shadow of Beyonce because what we see is simply you copying Beyonce. Don’t be afraid to be you. Fans want to see their beloved and favorite ‘celebrity’ shine. We do not want to see our ‘celebrities’ copying another person. In the USA we have hundreds of superstars but you will never see then copying each other, even if (by coincidence they wear the same outfit at different time to different occasions). You do not want to be compared with some where people put you in a competition as to ‘who wears what best’. Rihanna has her own style, so does Beyonce, Kesha Cole, Kelly Rawlings, Nicki Manaj, Lady Gaga, etc. You know the list goes on. Please I beg you, find your own style even if you are inspired or influenced by someone don’t imitate/copy them. Michelle Obama has her own style but you can see some of the late Jackie Kennedy Onassis inspiration in her style,. No where has she even been described as imitating/copying the former first lady. Please, please, please learn the difference between being inspired by someone and copying them. This will determine if you are a ‘true, super star’ or a wannabe one. This is well meaning message to you. Blessings and love sister.

    • Wow! Long ass post kr… lol
it’s not just african celebs who “copy” or draw inspiration from the bigger state-side celebs. When Rihanna came out (Pon de Replay) her image was similar to Beyonce’s (i.e long blonde weave) eventually she found her style when she chopped off all her hair. Same with Nicki Minaj who modelled herself on Lil Kim (pre surgery).
with that said it gets to a point in one’s career where they need to find their lane, it’s all well and good to be inspired by someone, but when u start looking like a carbon cope…every single time. Then there is a problem.
Nadia needs to switch up her look…we get it, she loves Bey, we all do.
But it’s time for a change, she is a gorgeous girl so pretty much anything will work on her 🙂

      • @1960chick. My point exactly. Nadia copies Beyonce ‘off stage’ persona. Look if Nadia wants to move from ‘celebrity’ to ‘superstar’ she has to find herself. I knew some ppl wouldn’t get my point but oh well. If the entertainment industry has one Beyonce already, no one wants to see another Beyonce. It is just simple business mathematics, every performer needs to have his/her own unique style. I am talking about how to capitalize on the market people talking about looking prettier than Beyonce. She can look more beautiful than Beyonce but Beyonce is Beyonce and has captured the market being herself. Nadia needs do to that. Carbon copy doesn’t sell. Can you imagine if Nadia took Beyonce’s stylish looks but gives it her own twist? So why the hating on my post? SMH…LOL. I AM TALKING ABOUT INSPIRATION THAT LEADS TO ORIGINATION……That’s all folks.

  6. I am not really good with pictures but Geez that1960chick, you got me thinking now…Surely Nadia is copying but her copying seems to be on point. However….

This makes me remember the common African joke which has it that, at a final examination hall for some students, one was so keen to copy the other guy (intelligent one)…

When they sat down ,  the Mr ready to copy waited and copied everything including the actions of the other. When the other picked his pen, he did too, when he sneezed, he did too and then when he wrote A, he wrote A too…

He kept copying and then even copied the other guy’s name which he wrote on his paper…

The moral of the joke is, be yourself because one day you will get it wrong…What happens if the person you copying dies or changes to a style that will never be favourable to you?

It is the zeal to look like others or copy their styles that leads people to lie about what they are wearing in order to push others into thinking, they are rocking the same class of designers and all that…

Life is not a race or a ‘carbon paper’. Photocopying kills you, you got to be yourself and find a definition for what you represent ….

        • They both bleach. Beyonce probably uses gluthataine…Nadia probably uses some OTC products. Look at some before and after pix of both these girls and the different will be noticable. That is what you get when you copy ppl. So now if Beyonce removes a few ribs Nadia will do that too?

  7. well, Nadia does luk good but Beyonce will always be the Queen, but she aint the only African celebrity taking inspiration from world wide celebrities, if she was in Hollywood she would have been told to find her own style by her PR..I bet she takes print pictures of Bey to her hairdresses or everytime she dresses up she looks at what Bey has worn and cats the luk..dats her inspiration, Ghanaians did hail her as Ghana Beyonce right? so there’s ur Card board Copy deb.

  8. Nadia has been totaly open on interviews saying she get her inspiration from Beyonce. Cause i remenber one GC commenter wrote something like, ” there are so many African role models Nadia could get her insperation from”. Any way, If Chris can find that page about the interview with Nadia it will be clear. I also remember in one of Nadia’s movies, i believe it was in my husband’s eye Nadia says something like, ” Do i look nice like Beyonce! ” So it is plain clear that she sees Beyonce in her. But please someone tell her lol cause I hear B is into Dark Things with her Hubby.

  11. OMG! What is the big deal? Don’t we all copy the trends of celebrities? I sure do, so why can’t Nadia?? Nadia you look great and keep doing your thing!

    • thank you Nola. you can call this two things hate or ill informed, or maybe abit of both. fashion trends be it colouring your hair red, wearing latex suits, sporting a mohawk, has nothing to do with being fake or copying in a bad way. Celebrity endorsements are there to provide just that. next time you dress, look yourself up and remember who you thought looked cool in them espadrilles, cloggs or hairstyle that made you sport one……..and celebs aint mermaids!!!!

that 1960, this was a poor write up, as a fashion blogger, you can do miles better.

      • Why would I hate on Nadia?
And what about the write up is ill informed?
It’s clear for anyone with eyes to see that her style is heavily influenced by Bey.
Nowhere in the write-up does it say/allude that what she is doing is wrong, u might need to read it again to get a clearer picture.
All i say in my reply to kr is  “it’s time for a change”
But that’s my opinion, and u have yours. so lets keep it moving 🙂

        Thanks for reading x

        • As a fashion blogger, and a good one, you realise trends doesn’t necessarily mean copying blindly after all its whats in vogue that most people want to wear including nadia and yourself. The royal wedding for eg inspired and will continue to inspire so many people to wear lace. Check into any fashion house right now and they will have lace already or have one in the pipeline. The pictures and your write up depicts beyonce wears something today and nadia is in the same outfit or design the next……and i very much doubt that is the case. reference “when u start looking like a carbon copy…every single time. Then there is a problem”

There is an element of vileness in the suggestion that she is bleaching her skin, and you do make a point what she is doing is wrong. check your diction again; imitation, carbon copy, find her lane, be herself, time for change. If i read these right, maybe you can educate me more on what you meant.

  13. what is the big deal if Nadia is copying Beyonce after all Nadia has always said she sees Beyonce as her role model and it is just normal for people to copy their role models. They both look terrific. Nadia looks even more prettier

  15. dagodfather…thanks for caling me a good blogger. That is the only thing I agree with about ur comment…:)

Now to the points you’ve raised…u say there is an element of vileness with reference to skin bleaching. I said “The resemblance is uncanny from their caramel skin (which depending on who you talk to could be attributed to skin lightening products)” I wasn’t just referring to Nadia…I also referenced Bey, it has been well publicised that Bey uses skin lightening products. As a matter of fact a lot of black/asian celebs/non-celebs chemically lighten their skin…so what’s ur point?

With regards finding your lane, again I quote “it gets to a point in one’s career where they need to find their lane”. Everyone is inspired by someone, nothing wrong with it, but at some point to truly set yourself apart you need to find your own style…whether it’s music, fashion, business or acting. To truly become great in one’s chosen field (not saying Nadia isn’t & this isn’t referencing her) one can’t try to be like someone else…cos that person already exists. And that’s when you need to find your lane.

which is why I said switching up her look would be nice, as a fan i’d like to see her try something different. Again my opinion…no need to take it personal, or state that my comments are coming from a vile place. Does the fact that I criticize her make me a hater?

    Reply
    • constructive criticisms is actually healthy and is very necessary. but unfortunately i dont see this as one. If i read and understood well, its about nadia copying beyonce’s hairstyle, skin colour(maybe) choice of clothes, makeup …..

Beyonce may well use skin lightening products, but as per your insinuation nadia copies her in almost everything makes logic that she is obsessed with beyonces skin colour……and hence nadia may well be bleaching.

Im not taking it personal at all, hope you aint too. you would anticipate comments with different views, this is mine.

I can send you 4 different pictures of cheryl cole or nicole from pussycat dolls with the same hairdo, or pose as nadia’s, do you say they are copying beyonce too? or they are too good to copy her, but nadia is the perfect guines pig. alrite cheryl mabe alit bit lighter, but that dont make nadia a copycat and for your write up specifically to portray her as such is unfortunate

In the 80’s when “punk” haircut was hip, do you call anyone who spots one a fake? what about people that spots mohawks now? these are trends, and you should know this.

If nadia or any other Ghanaian celeb spots velvet slippers, chinos, espadrilles, it dont mean they are not real and need to find their lane. what do we expect them to wear, batakari or kaba all the time?

Lets us celebrate our celebs and try not to belittle all the time, is godfathers point.

checked your bog, and its kinda cool….more of that, less of this!

  16. nadia always try to be like beyonce. she will need alot of plastic surgery to be like bey. she is crazy to think noone have noticed..nadia forehead look like a ass with that dimple in it. her face is fat, and she definately need a nose job. she can never be bey or look like her

  20. I think that debating over this is useless. Both Nadia and Beyonce are talented. As for copying who cares.Everybody copies someone at least once in their life. By the way I don’t think Beyonce is that original either. She too has been known for taking people’s ideas and songs. Both of them like to tell lies. Nadia liead about her dress for that awards show.
