Ghanaian Celebrities Were Not Recognised At Cannes Film Festival & Therefore No Red Carpet For Them, It Was All Lies…

Somewhere last week, I had a long separate chit chats via phone with Actress Juliet Ibrahim and Mr Fred Numah (Founder/CEO of Ghana Movie Awards) when they were in France for the Cannes Film Festival.

During our conversation, Juliet Ibrahim who could not believe a false story that was published on our celebrities having been on a red carpet at Cannes expressed her dissatisfaction and shock about the entire Ghanaian- Cannes visit arrangement.

From what I gathered from my convo with Juliet Ibrahim as to what was really going on at Cannes as far as our celebrities were concerned , it seemed our stars namely Nadia Buari, Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro,  Majid Michel, John Dumelo and others who were sponsored by the Ghana Movie Awards to the film festival had nothing scheduled for them out there.

They cheaply jumped on planes and went there to walk about as tourists or persons who had come to see the Hollywood stars… Even tourists have aims for visiting places, our celebrities were purely aimless.

It was therefore a big shock to Juliet Ibrahim to have read that, some Ghanaian celebrities out there in Cannes had graced the red carpet. Apart from the issue of red carpet, Juliet Ibrahim also pointed out that, she was not pleased with the way things were arranged for them.  There was no hotel rooms reserved for them and they did not have any planned means of transport.  Our stars jumped in and out of trains and taxis as if they were ‘I and I’…

The treatment accorded to these stars together with the fact that they were out there doing nothing and wasting their little money on hotels, food and transport pushed some of them to quickly make their way back to Ghana. After all, kenkey and fish is cheap back home.

After my over 1 hour conversation with Juliet Ibrahim who was sharing a little single hotel room with Ghanaian Actress-Nikki Samonas and her little sister (paid by themselves), I got in touch with the man (Mr Fred Nuamah) who was in charge with transporting our highly rated Ghanaian stars to France to be ‘allegedly’ treated like Mr no bodies.  They are my Ghanaian celebrities and I spend my entire life blogging about them so I got to stick up for them even though some of them do not like me that much… 🙂

Though Fred Nuamah accepted that there had been lapses in their arrangements out there, he said a lot to me which he latter repeated on Peacefm… So why should I type all he said to me when you can easily listen to the audio ?

Charley, I have Commercial Law exams on Friday so I have to go and do some chew and pour. Listen to the audio attachments below for the rest of the gist… 🙂

Fame will kill some people in this world…Oh Ghana Celebrities!

  1. When you do not support strong films and strong filmmakers, insult them and make a mocks of them on this very website, don’t expect any star treatment for your stars. Until they star alongside stars like Ama k Abebrese has done with Kimberly Elis, don’t expect any star treatment.

Chris, how can you, a supposed serious writer write and then say things about exams blah blah blah?

  2. @Imposter Maame, take your ignorance out here. Why can’t he not talk about his exams? Is this not a blog? If he decides to even talk about his dog or cat, what can you do? Is up to you to read or not. This is not some damn CNN or BBC

Here is the thing, until the Ghanaian movie industry begin to be dynamic in their comitmt, the movies they bring out and what they stand for..they will never be recognised anywhere even if they get free tickets, they ll still be local champions. who wants ‘second hand’ product when you can have the orignal product?? first of all what is ghallywood? the original is called hollywood and the rest of our movies tell it all….I wish best next time !!!

  7. Hmmmm…dis is so funny…my pretty lady juliet shud not complain cuz she is beautiful n all but really sucks as an actress…trust ♍ε̲̣̣̣̥, if †нє likes of her Απϑ dat lady nikki Απϑ abdul salam were introduced as actresses Απϑ filmproducer respectively, they would have served as A̶̲̥̅ comic @ †нє cannes…Please, wiτ̅h all due respect, Fred Nuamah made A̶̲̥̅ mockery of them by taking them to †нє cannes Απϑ making them believe that they could actually take A̶̲̥̅ walk on †нє red carpet or even be recognised….what movies do we make here in ghana????? Is Ι̥τ̲̅ those mediocre film production wiτ̅h stolen storylines???? Let’s be realistic about this, we are just not ready to go international yet…..our celebrities only appeal to †нє local market Απϑ that is †нє reality of †нє issue…if they want to think otherwise, fine! They should keep on dreaming……but if I were them, I would try to avoid such humilations…thank God jackie avoided this one…..

  9. @ celebrity is ur comment sensible?can’t other tourist travel to cannes, must everybody travelling there be a ghanaian celebrity?at times I wonder where peopler comments come from!

    • Yes my comment is sensible that why i wrote it. If you remove the cotton in your ears and listen carefully to Fred Nuamah’s audio interview, you would realize that he chose SOME of the Ghanaian celebrites who won awards at the Ghana Movie Awards.

If this is the criteria for the Cannes Festival selection, then please tell me in your “own sensible comment” how Nikki Sammonas and Juliet Ibrahim’s sister qualify for that trip.

  10. @pershia know it all,you sound like a disappointed actress or actor who did not get the chance to go to cannes ,so you chose to come on here and rant angrily at your colleagues.are you jackie?if you are,I think you should be more concerned about your rumored pregnancy.

    • @kwekup or whatever,i think u rather sounded disappointed and restless. Take ur silly hatred to the ghetto where u belong. Really, thank God Jackie wisely avoided such a cheap humiliation and also Roselyn. And why must someone be worried about a rumored pregnancy since she is independent and married. Not like she owes anyone or is a teenager or a minor. Think wisely before u post here cos this site is not for jokes.

    • @kwaku,what’s really strange if Jackie is pregnant ?Anyway, have in mind,Jackie is married unlike that wannabe slut Nadia Buari who entertain any guy in that swimming pool pussy of her.

  16. What do they expect???? With the type of trash they produce! Who has time for them? Only Ghanaians (most of whom like to be in denial) think these people are “stars!” I guess they now know who the real men and women are in show-bizzzzzzzz ! Hopefuly they’ll now begin to think seriously about their careers and the industry! Besides, which idiot just jumps on a plane and goes to a foriegn land without having such logistical details as hotel and ground transportation (at the very least!) Seriously!!!
