Angola’s Leila Lopes Wins Miss Universe 2011, Ghana’s Erica Yayra Nego Was A NO SHOW…

After 3 weeks of intensive competition between 89 countries, Leila Lopes (Miss Angola) has been crowned Miss Universe 2011… The event which was held in Brazil, Sao Paul listed Olesya Stefanko from Ukraine as 1st runner up, Priscilla Machado from Brazil as 2nd runner up and Luo Zilin (China) as 3rd runner up.

As usual, Ghana was a NO SHOW… This brings me to the sickening nature the organizers of Miss Universe Ghana-Insignia Group handled the selection of Ghana’s rep.

As you may know, a certain Miss Erica Yahyra Nego who contested and won Miss Minnesota to enable her go to Miss USA and then proceed to Miss Universe on behalf of USA but failed was PICKED to represent Ghana at the just ended Miss Universe competition.

One of the preposterous excuses the organizers gave on their facebook wall was that ”contestants who have lived abroad, tend to have a lot more exposure and sometimes have an edge over those who have had not had as much exposure,”  and as such, a woman without ANY SHADE of Ghanaian in her was chosen to represent Ghana. (You Can Read More On This From Here).

The organizers also claimed that, Miss Erica Yahyra Nego was going to make history for Ghana (thinking the judges cannot easily spot what is Ghanaian and what is not) by placing well in the competition…Total nonsense!

The competition is over and the ‘cheap’ desperate non Ghanaian representative who was imposed on us was A NO SHOW. You know what they say right?  I just can’t wait to hear the nonsense they will tell us now and next time…

In your face Mr. William Bedzrah, Communications Director of the INSIGNIA Group,Organizers & Producers Of Miss Universe Ghana (This man had the  impudence  of a dying cockroach to phone me, insult me and threaten me for just writing what was obvious and has been affirmed)

  2. She is beautiful and looks like a real Angola lady. So what happened to our Obroni who was supposed to bring us the crown? The organizers in Ghana should be shame and apologise to Ghanaians.

  3. OMG….she’s really beautiful.. Congratulations Leila…. I have a question — Is this the first time an African country has won this particular pageant??

  4. I must say i was cheering for Miss Angola to win when she made it into the Top 16. So proud that an African won again! And since i have an Angolan dad and a Guinean mother i was very happy. This is, i believe the third time an African has won. We should all share this moment together and celebrate as a Continent.

    • @rose23, yeah, this shows that beauty can be found in our Africans. We do not need to bring someone from anywhere (mixed race) to come represent us. I am glad an indigenous African won and not that scam Ghana sent

      • @Tracy, I’m definitely glad that she won. But then again i’m on the fence about Yayra! No matter how you see it she is still Ghanaian and deserves to be recognized as such! I just think that maybe the organization chose the wrong person to represent the country but the Miss Universe pagents is very difficult to compete in and the chances of winning are like one in a million. i was just glad that an African was selected to be in the top 16 and i just really wanted one to win. Let’s give Yayra some credit for even trying. Ghana might not have won but Africa did and that’s a blessing. I’ve been on some websites here is the U.S. and you read how they think the judges were unjust for choosing an African and that Leila was the wrong choice. So let’s just celebrate our victory and rub it in their faced.

    • @rose23, i was thinking the same thing, all of Africa will want to invite her to their nations, even Ghana(sorry Yayra)…what I read about her response to racism was so smart (she said racists should seek professional help as it is not acceptable in the 21st century)…any way yeah we should celebrate Leila Lopes as a continent…

  5. #1 this is stupid and insult to native Ghanaian women. In a way what they are trying to say is that native Ghanaian women are not pretty or well educated!! When what dose it say about the country?
How about them picking a girl and polish her well to the World?

#2 This girl didn’t win for the first time why pick her to rep Ghana for a 2. time?

    • @endowed, U know am thinking the same . I dont know when some ghanaians would appreciate their color.Trust me, even in elementary school, its only the fair kids who are allowed to sit in or stand in the front row for the end of the term photographs.Very funny, but true, I hope someday dark skin would be hyped by everyone cuz this is getting too dirty.
