Fashion & Lifestyle: The Inspiration & Reason Behind My Hair…

blank

Like many black women I was on a quest to frame my face in the commercial images that I was imbued with as a child. I saw myself as a reflection of some images someone showed me on Billboards, TVs and Magazines.

I’ve been getting the 3rd degree about my hair a lot so I decided to share the reason behind it. I’ve had my hair ‘permed’ ever since I can remember until my hubby whining incessantly in my ear became unbearable “Amaa (as he likes to call me), grow out your hair, go natural, you’ll look fabulous, all those chemicals you put in your hair are dangerous, they are killing your brain cells…LOL. I mean he did everything in his power to persuade me”!

And every single time I gave him the same answer, “anything that makes me ugly you love”. Then with the odds stacked against me, I got JINXED by him, my hair stylist relocated and that was an end to an era. 🙂

I had my sister take the place of the hair stylist and the rest was a NIGHTMARE!!!! My hair was falling out in droves. This compelled me to cave in to my hubby’s never ending requests and he shaved my hair all off. Not that I had a choice though but I had to blow his ego to make him believe he was right all along. So this is how my natural hair came to be.

I knew he was right all along in regards to the chemicals but I didn’t have the courage to grow my hair out naturally again after wearing it that way from when my mum birthed me to my last day in high school.

I must admit, it took me months to finally reveal my hair to the public and the feedback was great so I said to myself, why not stick it out and see how it goes and I’ve never looked back  since.

It’s perfect for my lifestyle. I’m a very active person.  I love going to the gym and engaging in a lot of outdoor activities therefore sweating profusely is what I’m accustomed.
