4syte
4syte

The organisers of the annual 4SYTE Music Video has released the full nominations for the 2011 edition of the awards. The awards is organised by 4SYTE TV under the tutelage of telecommunication giant, Vodafone.

Some of the videos in the nominations are nothing to write home about and it will be shameful if they win awards but hey let’s wait and see how the voting goes.

If your favourite doesn’t win, it means they didn’t acquire enough votes. So all you have to do is to vote for them and make sure they come on top. Vote for them before you come and complain. If you know how to complain, you might as well know how to vote.

Dear GC Readers: My Friend’s Boyfriend Is & Has Been Beating The Hell Out Of Her… Yet She Says She Cannot Leave Him!

blank

Dear GC,

I’m in a real dilemma about how to help a close friend of mine. I’ve known her for over ten years so in many ways she really is like my sister. Recently I found out her boyfriend of two years has been beating her.

I’m truly shocked and devastated as I had no idea she was going through all this. I feel like such a bad friend because i didn’t even know it was happening. I had noticed that she wasn’t going out as much or answering my calls but she said she is just feeling tired lately.

I’ve tried to tell her to leave but she says she can’t as he has no one else and anytime the beating happenings, he regrets it-meaning he does not intend to beat her but it happens all the time.

Since she told me she has once come over to my house because her man had seriously beaten her. She had blood pouring from her brow. I was so upset.

She has made me promise not to say anything but I can’t just keep this to myself. What makes this worse is that she just told me she is pregnant and so it isn’t just her who is in danger, the baby too.

My friend says if I say anything she will end our friendship and I should let her deal with it. How can I not say or do anything? I know all this is happening because both her parents are back home in Africa and she is an only child, the only family she has here is her aunt who she does not get on with.

Can’t Believe This: Forbes Names 40 Most Powerful Celebrities In Africa & There Is No Ghanaian In There…

Jackie Appiah, Ama K Abebrese And Menaye Donkor
Jackie Appiah, Ama K Abebrese And Menaye Donkor

Forbes has named what they call ‘40 Most Powerful Celebrities‘ in Africa and I am extremely shocked with the list. Out of their 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa, no Ghanaian appeared in there….

Did they forget about Ghana? Names like Genevieve Nnanji, Didier Drogba , Don Jazzy, 2face, P-square and others made the list and yet Reggie Rockstone, Jackie Appiah, Michael Essien, Abedi Pele and others from Ghana could not be counted in…

The list was compiled by Forbes contributor- Mfonobong Nsehe. According to Mfonobong, he based the list on this…

“Determining the celebrities who exert the highest degree of influence in contemporary African pop culture involved sifting through the nominations for the individuals with the highest numbers of votes, and then measuring their media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online), number of web references on Google, TV/radio mentions and their general clout across the continent. Ideally, a robust social media presence would have been an invaluable yardstick in determining the intensity of influence these individuals exert over their enthusiasts.”

Anyway, what do you think about the list? Do you agree with it and what do you think of the no mention of any Ghanaian celebrity?

Based on the fact that Abedi Pele, Michael Essien and other names did not pop up, I can boldly say…The list is somehow groundless, biased and probably full of CRAP!

I am not hating but based on the criteria outlined above, how can Nneka, 2face, Don Jazzy, Samuel Eto’o, Genevieve Nnaji,  D’Banj, Asa and  K’Naan make the list without any Ghanaian?  I can point out several Ghanaian celebrities who can displace some of these people based on the criteria above….

A Night Of ‘Weed’, Rains As Samini & Mavado ‘Lighted’ Accra Sports Stadium!

blank

Misfortunes sometimes are blessings in disguise. Samini and Mavado show which took place last Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium was a typical example. The misfortune of postponing the show from October 1 turned out to be a blessing in disguise on October 8.

The show, which many people thought will flop, turned out to be one of the highly successful shows held at the Sports Stadium. The show was postponed due to the hurriedly arranged friendly match between two of the most successful, decorated and glorious teams in the country, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

Many, particularly people who had bought their advance tickets became worried. The organisers also panicked since they didn’t know of the repercussion of such an untimely decision, especially when they were not thoroughly informed of the decision earlier as expected.

Even at the press conference to formally announce the postponement of the show, the organisers were petrified because the new date means, they would have to clash with the annual Joy FM Old Skuul Reunion which happens on the same day at the Trade Fair Centre.

The fact that, the Old Skuul Reunion was free, I reckoned on the faces of some of the organisers that, they felt they were in some trouble.

“What then happens to their investment, if the people all decide to make their way to the Trade Fair Centre for the Old Skuul Reunion?” I asked one of the organisers. “Ebenezer, we will use the Old Skuul Reunion to get people to attend this program. All we have to do is to push the message hard”, was a replied that accompanied my worried question.

If I was to choose between the Old Skuul and the Samini/Movado gig, I would have opted for the latter since the former has lost it appeal from my perspective. But honestly, I was nervous for the organisers because the Old Skuul Reunion was free whiles the Samini/Mavado gig attracted 20 and 40 GHC.

But I knew MTN has been the heart of Ghana music for many years until recently when they had to hand over the sponsorship of the country’s music awards to Vodafone. I know they are still committed at projecting Ghana music. Fantasy Entertainment has done it before. They brought the American Hip Hop artiste Rick Ross to the country. Samini Music is a label headed by a very serious musician.

Out Of Box Story: Wikileaks Claims Apple Founder Steve Jobs Died Of HIV/Aids

blank

There have been plenty of absurd tributes to Steve Jobs. But the most tone-deaf has got to be the one by Wikileaks, which last night tweeted a link to a faked copy of the former Apple CEO’s positive “H.I.V. report.”

RIP, Steve!

We knew something was FISHY about Steve Job’s passing, when his family asked for “privacy” after his death. Now Wikileaks is claiming that they know why. The site says he died of AIDS!!!

Just minutes after news broke that Steve Jobs had died, Wikileaks tweeted a link to “purported Steve Jobs medical records.” The link goes to a torrent file for a couple images of test results from a company called SxCheck which supposedly show Steve Jobs tested positive for HIV in 2004.

They’re obvious fakes—most obviously because SxCheck wasn’t even founded until 2006—and even Wikileaks concludes “the images should not be taken at face value.”

A lot of people thought these were newly leaked. In fact, Wikileaks posted the documents in 2008, and they’ve been fueling conspiracy theories about Apple and Steve Jobs ever since.

Here’s an excerpt from what they reported:

Two photos, purporting to be part of Apple CEO Steven P. Jobs medical file, show a HIV positive status . . .

Adjetey ‘Pusher’ Anang Thinks Lydia Forson, Yvonne Okoro & Nadia Buari Are Ghana’s Current Best Actresses, Not Jackie Appiah

Lydia Forson
Lydia Forson

Talented and versatile Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang, mostly known as ‘Pusher’ due to a bad boy role he played in the television series ‘Things We Do For Love’ has swerved star actress Jackie Appiah in an interview with GhanaCelebrities.Com.

He swerved the star actress for Lydia Forson, Yvonne Okoro and Nadia Buari.

Always smiling Jackie Appiah won the ‘Best Actress’ Award at the 2010 edition of the Ghana Movie Awards but Adjetey Anang regards her as a veteran and not necessarily the best actress in Ghana.

Pusher acknowledged that Jackie can be considered as a veteran but he honestly feels the best actresses in Ghana now are Lydia Forson, Yvonne Okoro and Nadia Buari.

Yvonne Okoro co-won Ghana Movie Awards’ 2010 Best Actress Award with Jackie Appiah with two other actresses. Nadia Buari on the other hand isGhana’s current Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

For Lydia Forson, Adjetey concurred that though she has not been featured in lots of movies, she is one hell of a good actress. It also seems that, she is the only one Adjetey considers as the very best of the best.
