Following reports circulating around that actor Van Vicker was arrested on the eve of the movie awards dubbed as the ‘African Oscar’, Africa Movie Academy Awards [AMAAs] in Nigeria, GhanaCelebrities.Com’s hotlines has been buzzing with calls from people who call themselves fans of Van Vicker.
It has been established that the story is false. What is not clear to GhanaCelebrities.Com is whether it’s meant for publicity because of the contents in the story since the actor has denied ever being arrested and detained.
According to the story, the Ghanaian actor who was billed to attend the AMAAs in Nigeria was arrested by the State Security Service [SSS] at the airport when fire arms were found in his travelling luggage.
But the actor in an interview with an Accra based radio station, Hitz FM has denied ever being arrested. He stated categorically that “… I was not arrested.”
Van Vicker explained that, the guns found in his luggage were props from the United States which were delivered to him in Nigeria.
He said due to airport regulations such props needed to be approved before he could be allowed for the trip, hence he was taken to the SSS office in Ikoyi so as to get the proper clearance sorted out. He mentioned that he had to spend the night out there because it was late.
“I was with them for a very long time and then eventually we went to the SSS offices in Ikoyi but because it was really late I had to stay with them overnight and the next day processes were made for me to leave and also certify that the guns were just props,” he said.
He stated that, in the process of the above, he contacted his wife and AMAAs nominee Uche Jumbo on the developments. He said the latter came to the SSS office and together they left the premises shortly after series of questioning.
