On Sunday June 24, attention would be moved from the Accra Sports Stadium to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital for the fifth edition of the annual charity ‘Stars Soccer Fiesta’, fun game that brings soccer stars and other stars to play for fun and charity.
Over the last five years, a platform has been created to engage the country’s national team, Black Stars in a friendly football match with Ghanaian musician to raise funds to support a charity in the country and also to have fun.
This year’s edition is dubbed ‘Stars Soccer Fiesta Reloaded’.  Looking at the build-up, the day is going to be unforgettable.
The maiden edition of the match was used to preach peace to Ghanaians during the General Elections in 2008. With this year being another election year, the organisers will use the match to champion free, fair and peaceful elections.
Expected to deliver peaceful messages on the day are the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and some selected stars.
The match has been fully endorsed by the Ghana Football Association [GFA]. George Afriyie who represented the GFA at the Press Conference held yesterday said the FA is “proud and ready to support” the match because the organisers are giving prominence to juvenile [colts] football in the Ghana.
One of the objectives of the match is to supplement the effort and quest of the FA to uplift Juvenile Soccer by playing the best select Colts side; Ashanti vrs Greater Accra to play as curtail raiser.
Accra Media will also lock horns with the Kumasi Media in a second curtail raiser.
The FA rep who is also an Executive Committee Member and heads the FA’s Juvenile Committee, said over the years, the juvenile [colts] football has been neglected and relegated to the background, so for the organisers to use part of the gate proceeds to support juvenile football is commendable and explains why the Association has accepted to be part.
The Black Stars have dominated and won every match played. But this year promises to be exciting and different as the musicians and the movie stars will come together to form a solid team to fight the dominance of the Black Stars.
President of the Ghana Actors Guild [GAG] Samuel Odoi Mensah and President of the Musicians Union of Ghana [MUSIGA], Bice Osei Kuffour who represented their respective associations said their players are training vigorously to triumph.
Award winning movie maker, Shirley Frimpong-Manso on her part, promised to do whatever is possible to make the musicians-actors team record its first win.
Every Black Star player-both retired and active members have confirmed their participation. Former World and African Footballer of the year, George Oppong Weah of Liberia, Cote D’voire’s Emmanuel Eboue, junior brother of Manchester United’s defender Rio Ferdinard, Anton Ferdinard of Queens Park Rangers are also expected to grace the match.
There will be musical performances before, during and after the match. Dinner and after party will also be held at the Golden Tulip Hotel.
CEO of GoldStar Consult Limited Sammy Anim Addo told GhanaCelebrities.Com that, the match has been moved to Kumasi because, they didn’t want the Kumasi folks to think that, they have been neglected.
The ‘Stars Soccer Fiesta Reloaded’ is brought to you by Mama Vit’s and supported by the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, John Painstil Kids Peace Project and the Musicians Union of Ghana [MUSIGA].
