April 29: Abuse Of Incumbency To Be Monitored!
Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) have launched a project in Accra to monitor the abuse of incumbency and political corruption in the December 7th 2012 elections. The project, which begins on 1st May to 30th November 2012, will cover manifestations of abuse of incumbency and acts of political corruption in election 2012.
April 30: NPP Fingers Minister In Ashanti Violence!
The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah of instigating violence that has characterized the registration exercise in the region. The NPP consequently asked the regional minister to bow his head in shame for presiding over rot which has recently made the region notorious.
May 1: Ashanti NDC Chairman Denies Gun-Pulling Story!
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has profusely denied media reports that a member of the Vice President’s security detail at the weekend pulled a gun at him. He insisted he was outside Kumasi at the time the Vice President John Mahama visited, to perform an official duty and wondered how he could have been embroiled in such an incident.
May 1: 2010 Census Figures Still Not Ready!
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has postponed the release of the final results of the 2010 Population and Housing Census, which had been scheduled to be announced on April 30. The GSS in a statement said: “A new date for the release will be announced in due course.”
May 1: Bawumia: “Better Ghana Has Become Harder Ghana”!
Running mate for the 2012 NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the Mills-Mahama administration in its first term in office has delivered a “Harder Ghana” instead of its 2008 campaign mantra of “building a Better Ghana”. Addressing thousands of people at the Malata Market, last Friday, as part of a tour to the market and its environs, he said “coming into this market, I had discussions with many market women. People are suffering, things are getting harder and harder; what was supposed to be a better Ghana has become a harder Ghana.”
May 2: Bright Akwetey Embarks On Nationwide Tour!
Presidential aspirant of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Bright Akwetey is set to tour the country to meet delegates of the CPP. Mr. Akwetey is currently in the Volta region to sell his message to the party’s delegates.
May 3: Bawumia’s “Double Standards” Shocking – Fiifi Kwetey!
The deputy Finance Minister, Fiifi Kwetey has accused the New Patriotic Party’s vice presidential candidate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia of double standards for questioning the credibility of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Dr. Bawumia on Wednesday raised doubts about figures collated by the Service based upon which single digit inflation has persisted for over 20 months now.
May 6: Lawyer Safo Visits Abokobi Mantse!
Lawyer Sarah Adwoa Safo, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Dome/Kwabenya, has called on the Abokobi Mantse to introduce herself and hear the concerns of the people. She said the recent realignment of the Abokobi electoral area to the Dome Kwabenya constituency following the re-demarcation of some electoral areas would pave way for the development of the area.
May 6: Tamale Market Women Confirm Triple Digit Inflation!
Market women at the Tamale Aboabo market, Friday, confirmed the astronomic increases in prices of various food items in the last three years despite the much touted attainment of single digit inflation over the same period. The market women at the Aboabo Market, noted for selling food stuffs in bulk, confessed to the increases during a tour of the Market by the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
