Can Nigeria Redeem Itself Or Watch Ghana Do The Double Over Them?

Ghana Meets Naija 2012
Ghana Meets Naija 2012

The ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ concert is largely regarded as a musical showdown of sorts to establish supremacy between two countries whose musical trends have continuously influenced and rivaled each other in every way.
If indeed, the concert is a showdown, then last year’s edition was judged by many industry pundits as being a unanimous victory in favor of the Ghanaian artistes who excited the most with their performances on the night. This year therefore, the Naija acts are pledging to bring their best performances to bear on the night.
In typical Nigerian fashion, top Naija acts featuring on the bill have stated emphatically that come the night of 30th June, 2012, they will outclass their Ghanaian counterparts.
The Nigerian acts billed to perform include African hip-hop heavyweight, MI, his Chocolate city label mate and crooner Brymo whose hit single ‘Ara’ is one of the most heavily rotated songs on local radio and on the club scene.  Another Nigerian artiste taking Africa by storm, Davido, who has yet to perform his hit club banger ‘Dami Duro’ on any stage in Ghana.
Also billed to take the stage in Ghana for the first time will be Don Jazzy’s leading lady and Nigeria’s finest female act of the moment, Tiwa Savage, who has three hit songs on heavy rotation in Ghana and Africa ’Kelekele’, ‘Love Me’ and ‘Oma Ga’.

Performing from Ghana, are the biggest acts selling Ghanaian music to the rest of the world; the 2012 Group of the year winners,4X4, phenomenal dancehall first lady Kaakie, Ghana’s biggest act of the  moment, Guru, Tema’s finest R2Bees and the madman Kwaw Kesse supported by  Keche, Chemphe, Bino, and Sala among others.
Whiles artistes from both countries prep for a major showdown on the night, the event’s organizers, Empire Entertainment, maintain that Ghana Meets Naija is a musical concert aimed at fostering unity between both countries, celebrating our brotherhood and similarities between our cultures and musical trends.
According to a release by organizers, contrary to the notion created that the concert is a rivalry between the two countries, the show was instituted to promote unity and last year’s event succeeded in doing exactly that as it saw a huge attendance of Nigerians who had flown in all the way from Nigeria just to witness the concert.
This year’s showdown will be much bigger than last year’s as the Ghana Meets Naija Concert stage is fast becoming an event that artistes from both Ghana and Nigeria look forward to performing on.
The concert is aimed at celebrating what we have in common as sister countries not to cause rivalry; however musical fans from both countries have gained such an interest that such notions are to be expected. Nonetheless as the company behind this event, we believe that it is going a long way in solidify the good relationship between the entertainment industries of both countries.”

It is believed by industry analysts that the concert has aroused interest in music industry stakeholders in both countries with all keeping a keen eye on which artistes will be featured on the bill because it is now quite clear that Ghana Meets Naija only features the biggest acts in both countries in a particular year.
Regardless of the notions surrounding the concert, there is one fact that cannot be denied that, judging from last year’s experience, the second edition of the Ghana Meets Naija concert will be a mega concert that will truly entertain patrons of both countries.
