READERS’ MAIL: Ghanaian & Nigerian Celebs Stand The Risk Of Being Arrested In Dubai For Buying Fake Designer Products

The below email just came in from ‘Caramel’ who says she/he lives in Dubai. She/He claims to have made certain observations and wanted to let us know the possible out come if things continue…
Even though the E-mail seems to have been hurriedly put together, if carefully read, you can pick up the writer is looking to send across.
I have come cross a comment on here by a reader which seeks to suggest that, the GC team themselves put together some of the readers mail…This is never true.
I have therefore put below a screen shot of the email that just came through from Caramel for the various doubting Thomases…
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Good afternoon
I have noticed several Nigerian and Ghanaian actors and actresses over here in Dubai spending money as if they are millionaires but the funny thing is their attitude is nothing like those expressed on your blog. Granted some of them may pretend over in GH that they are ballin’ out of control but their money is mere peanuts compared to us in Dubai.
To note there are several knock off shops over here that you can get some fake designer purchases that look authentic like  LV, Hermes, Gucci, shoes and everything I am saying this because the GCC has this horrible reputation of pretending that they do not know of this when actually they look down on these illegal items and if caught out here with anything counterfeit that is serious jail time and deportation. My concern is that oftentimes Africans (notably Nigerians and Ghanaians) are usually the ones 5-0 catch and deport.
That is why it is important to let these “celebrities” know that you are making it harder on the honest Africans who work here and I can testify to that…no I am not African but the color of your passport does matter and the mistreatment of hardworking Nigerians and Ghanaians seems to get overshadowed when Naija and GH celebrities buy knock off goods and with cowardice jump on a plane and pretend that they have the means to buy such things.
True the dirham compared to the cedi is low but after reading several of your columns and the way some of your local celebrities brag about their money it seems impossible that with purchasing a Fall 2012 LV Avalon handbag in the color of Rouge Fauviste  cost around $1690 (USD) which means it cost about 3500 Ghana cedis for each bag now calculate a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes from his Spring 2012 collection with “real” Remy hair which cost 300 USD per 3 ounces, plus the upkeep of it which needs to be maintained every week, along with a supposedly whimsical flight on Emirates airlines which cost over 2000 Ghana cedis depending on what class you are in ( First, Business and Economy) it seems that these celebrities would be in the red not to mention them maintaining a lifestyle in GH and not including paying managers, trainers, stylists, publicity etc. …
I am not saying that they cannot afford it because some can but the others please stop pretending because you are making it extremely hard on your fellow countrymen/women.
I went to one of the LV stores here in my city and asked the sales concierge to assist me in identifying the difference between  knock off  LV and authentic LV, I also showed him pictures of several of your Naija and GH celebrities and wearing LV  bags, shoes etc. and I also went to Gucci as well needless to say they were not pleased at all. Some asked for the celebs names some even went so far as to call the police to show them pictures of these celebrities.
Please inform these men and women that they not only hurt themselves but the people here with black skin too, this includes the Black Americans/British, personally I do not want to be linked with anyone who drags me down simply to keep up an image. This is very serious thank you for your time.

You can send your Readers’ Mail directly to me via [email protected]
It may take some time to get published because I receive a lot of such mails and need to publish them one after the other. Thank You

I have just been told that, in certain countries like Italy, tourists who purchase fake bags and are caught can be fined over 1000 euros!

  4. SERIOUSLY, IT BAFFLES MY BELIEVE WHEN I HEAR OUR CELEBS USING THIS TOP REKNOWNED DESIGNER GOODS, CUS THEY COST À FORTUNE, TELL YOU WHAT À BAG LIKE ” HERMES” ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE BAGS IN THE WORLD, USED BY KIM K, POSH ETC CAN FETCH YOU FROM $ 100,000 ACCORDING TO FORBES LISTS OF LUXURY GOODS!
SO THEREFORE, IF THESE OUR CELEBS CLAIM THEY HAVE SUCH MEANS, THEN THEY CAN EQUALLY ROCK SHOULDERS WITH THE KIM KAY’S AND THE POSH, THE PROBLEM MOST OF OUR CELEBS HAVE IS ALWAYS TRYING TO IMPRESS THE UNNATURAL WAY, AND THEY END UP KILLING THIERSELVES TO PLEASE, WHY DNT THEY JUST BE THIERSELVES FOR NOW AND USE OR PATRONISE EQUAL DESIGNER GOODS, WHICH THEY CAN AFFORD NOW AND THEN LATER WHAT THEY ASPIRE TO HAVE WHEN THEY REACH THE PEAK OF THIER CARRIER, HUMILITY IS À MAJOR PROBLEM OF OUR CELEBS TOO, IMMEDIATELY THEY GAIN FAME, THEY TOTALLY FORGET THIER PAST, BUT ALL THESE À-LISTERS IN HOLLYWOOD DIDNT JUST MAKE IT IN À TWINKLE OF AN EYE, IT TOOK SOME PEOPLE DECADES TO BE WHERE THEY ARE, SOME STILL REMEMBER WHERE THEY CAME FROM AND ARE NOT EVEN SHY TO SHARE THAT TO INSPIRE OTHERS WHO LOOK UP TO THEM, LET’S JUST BE OURSELVES PEOPLE CUS IF U TRY TO PLEASE U END UP BEHEADING YOURSELF AND STILL NOT PLEASE ANYONE.
I REALLY ADMIRE KATE MIDDLETON’S WAY OF LIFE, HAD IT BEEN AN AFRICAN WHO HAD SUCH À POSITION, I SWEAR ALL DESIGNER DEPOTS WILL BE MOVED CLOSE TO HER RESIDENCE, INFACT SHE WILL CREATE BUZZ EVERYDAY WITH HER CLOTHES SHE WEARS, IVE OBSERVED ONE THING IN LIFE AND IT’S TRUE, THOSE WITH REAL FORTUNE LIVE MODEST LIFE.
