Daniel Amakye Dede, the distinguished Ghanaian highlife musician would be honoured and celebrated at the second edition of the ‘Legends & Legacy Ball’ slated for September 15 at the Accra International Centre.
The musician with many aliases such as ‘Seriousss’, ‘Iron Boy’, ‘The Highlife maestro’, ‘Abrantie’ was unveiled to the media in a brief ceremony on Friday.
In attendance to support the musician was Mike Gizo former Minister of State in the erstwhile Jerry John Rawlings government, satirist KSM, ACP Kofi Boakye, MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffour, Tic Tac, Daasebre Gwanema, Steve Bedi, Charles Amoah, Kwabena Kwabena and Ben Brako.
Abrantie Amakye Dede as he is affectionately called was born in Agogo, a town in Ashanti Akim of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
He began his musical journey in 1973 when he joined Royals Kumapim owned Akwasi Ampofo Agyei of blessed memory live band, as a composer and a vocalist.
He travelled to Nigeria to seek greener pastures and was blessed with the hit song ‘Jealousy Go Shame’.
Amakye later formed his own live band, Apollo High Kings in 1980 and has seen conquered the genre with over 20 albums. Unlike Daddy Lumba who was celebrated Amakye currently dominates the Highlife music in Ghana with staggering stage craft.
His energy on stage has earned him as one of the greatest performers of our time. For most Ghanaians, celebrating his achievements in the music fraternity has been long overdue.
Imajin Advertising, an event promotion and management outfit based in Accra has come up with the Legends and Legacy ball (LAL Ball) which seeks to celebrate the musical achievements and legacies of legends.
As has been with the Legends and Legacy Ball, the celebrant would have his own songs performed to him by some selected musicians in Ghana.
The last performance of the night will be by the legend, who will perform couple of his songs. On his part, Amakye Dede promised patrons of an exciting show.
Musicians expected to perform some of the hit songs includs Samini, Okyeame Kwame, Becca, Eazzy, Kwabena Kwabena, Daasebre Gwamena, Steve Bedi, a saxophonist  and Abrantie’s close pal, Freddy Meiway who is an African music icon from Ivory Coast.
Last year, the show brought together the two former presidents of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kuffour.
What’s the success package for this year? You need to be at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday September 15 for a show of a life time.
