Video: It Is Because Of Such ‘Men of God’ That I Have Big Issues With Religion & The God Hypothesis…

I have listened and read several of the ontological arguments for the existence of God. Though none seems plausible enough for me to suspend my thinking faculty in accepting the existence of anything resembling a God, I must however confess that, the personal experience argument (relationship people claim to have with God) touches my heart.

But then, when you have men like the one in the video below (Pastor Dr. Kwadwo Tuffour) muddying the personal experience arguments with such strong but false claims-personal experience, then some of us would rather like to remain on the fence.

I have always said that, the weakness of Religion and the God Hypothesis is embedded in the fact that FAITH (believing without evidence) is the foundation upon which Religious beliefs are built.

I think because people are asked to believe without evidence and under certain circumstances, without even questioning or without reasonable probing, men like Pastor Dr. Kwadwo Tuffour would continue to remain relevant.

How can we absolutely trust anything else some of these ‘Men of God’ says God has revealed to them?  Is God lying to his own Men? How can God reveal to you the NPP was going to win the elections on such numerous occasions and yet they did not win?

I think we would be far better of as human civilization if we probe into things and live in scepticism instead of having dogmatic beliefs grounded on faith, inspired by ancient books and championed by such people who claim to be ‘Men of God’.

I am sure you have already branded me in your mind as an ‘atheist’ as many quickly do when they hear my take on God and Religion. But this is what I am…Since I cannot confidently make the statement that God does not exist based on available evidence and arguments and cannot also say He does (considering available arguments and evidence), I prefer to remain a sceptic-Agnostic…

All the same, the purpose of this post is to state that, such ‘Men of God’ do not make the God Hypothesis attractive to opened minded people like me.  And without God, the so called ‘Men of God’ and Religion, I think the world would be a far better place to live.

  2. I understand where you’re coming from but the bad behavior of someone (including a man of God) should not keep you from developing your personal relationship with God. I beg you, leave that ‘agnostic-atheist’ matter. Sometimes, when we live outside Ghana, it’s easier for us to reject God because we physically have all we need! I trust that deep down your heart, you know that there’s a God and that he has made his way plain to men. Please don’t give up, read your Bible, pray and ask God to reveal himself to you and he will. He did it for me!

    • @Susie,

Hmmm not completely sure whether i agree with this comment. Personally i do believe in God (and some parts of evolution, controversial i know!), having free will means we can all decide the part we choose to take. Chris has chosen to be agnostic (its fair enough). I think to assume he’s agnostic based on the fact he lives in England and has all the things he wants is misconstrued. And frankly, if the bases of Christianity/religion in Ghana is that, you believe/worship God because you don’t have the “physical things” you want, then that goes against the fundamentals of Christianity. I didn’t think we worshiped God for material gain but rather for eternal life. Surely a christian should remain strong in whatever situation they are put in because they know that their true gift is in the afterlife.

      • @dove, There are many people out there that are so blinded by the devil, thinking that they can live without God. They need evidence to prove that He does exists. It’s sad!

Many people have died in a sinful way and have regretted of not taken Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. If one denies Jesus Christ, He will also deny that person. Many people will say Lord, I did this for you and that. He will go on and say ‘I never knew you’.

      • @27cдгibre(Ф_ф), Thank you! @dove, Thanks for your comment! I think you misunderstood me. I’m not here to judge anyone or impose my beliefs on them, not at all. The Bible says that it would be difficult for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. From my own personal experience, when I moved to the US and had all I wanted, it became hard to believe in God, trust him to give me what I need etc. I felt like giving up on my faith and prayed and miraculously, a woman I’ve never met before walked up to me and told me God loves me etc. and started witnessing to me (which I had never experienced in all the years I’ve moved to the US). All I want to say is that deep down inside each of us, we know that there’s a God and we know that only he can fill our emptiness. We can deny it but when we go to sleep at night, we know this. I pray that everyone reading this who’s struggling with their faith will come to experience Christ the way I did. And as you say, we should all serve God for who he is and not for what we want from him. God bless you all!

  3. MEHN!! THIS PASTOR NEEDS TO BE CONTACTED IMMEDIATELY AFARI GYAN DECLARES MAHAMA AS THE WINNER. YOU SEE, NOT THAT GOD DSNT SHOW REVEALATIONS TO HIS SERVANTS, BUT THE WAY SOME PASTORS CARRY THE WHOLE ” GOD REVEALED TO ME ISSUE ”
SOME USE THIER REVEALATIONS AS À MEANS OF GETTING CHEAP PUBLICITY THROUGH THE MEDIA AND TO ALSO ATTRACT MORE CONGREGATION TO THIER CHURCH. I MEAN IF THESE PASTORS CLAIM TO BE TRUE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST, WHY DNT THEY IMMITATE THE HUMBLE LIFE OF CHRIST. IF À PASTOR IN OUR MODERN AGE HAD THE POWER JESUS HAD, AM SURE HÈ WOULD HAVE ASKED TO HAVE À SEGMENT ON CNN EVERYDAY TO UPDATE THE WORLD ON WHAT WILL HAPPEN EVERYDAY. PASTORS ARE NOW BOASTING OF THE GIFTS AND TALENTS GOD GAVE THEM, IT LOOKS AS IF THE MORE REVEALATIONS OR DREAMS YOU HAVE DETERMINES HOW. ” POWERFUL” À PASTOR IS. LORD HAVE MERCY ON US.

Chris you amaze me. This coming from someone that attends a church. Read Matthew 24. My pastor preached about that chapter today. It is written in the bible that there will be false prophets! Not all Men of God’ are false prophets.

I do not agree with you one bit when you say that without God the world would be a better place. Sorry Chris but please be grateful to God cos he is the one that created this world and he even created you!!

My pastor went on to say that it’s time to change the way we think, we talk and other things and not go back to our dirty lifestyle. We are all not perfect but with God everything is possible. Change takes time.

We are all going to be judged by God. Never ever am I going to leave my God. I will always be grateful for His goodness and mercies.

People it’s time that we pray for another so that they will repent. Jesus Christ is coming soon! Think of the everlasting life with Him!

    • When did I tell you I attend any church? What is your evidence that God created me or the world? This is the problem I have, making claims without evidence and believing anything out there without evidence is the problem some of us have. Creation?

I did not even know there are any more creationist in the world now. Do you know it is agreed among all respected Theologians and Scholarly Pastors (not the 2 by 4 pastors we mostly have in African churches) that we were not created but we evolved? Even the Archbishop of Canterbury believes we were not created-We all evolved-Evolution.

Evolution and Creation is a settled issue (there isn’t a debate here again). Human beings/animals were never created but rather evolved…

Forget the Genesis story in the Bible because Biblical scholars have concluded that the creation story (Adam and Eve) are all are metaphorical stories…They are not real.

Do not be a dogmatic Christian. You are coming across as one. You need to do further reading and stop quoting the Bible as your source of reference in any argument for or against the existence of God (because you can not in anyway define or establish the authenticity of the bible).

Stop quoting what your Pastor says to you and find out the truth about things yourself. Do not buy into Pastor says this and that, what are you using your own reasoning or sense for?

I still think you have a lot to study or read…Start the studies today about God and Religion and then make your own mind, instead of living on what some Pastor told you.

Which pastor talks about creation in this modern world? Maybe just your pastor!

No one is asking you to leave your God but have plausible reasons why you believe in God than my pastor says so or the Bible says there is God or I believe there is God. I believed my ex girl really loved me, but is it true that she really loved me? Merely believing or having faith in something does not make that thing true.

I think you have a lot to learn on these issues. Jump them for now and join the debate when you have enough knowledge on the subject!

      • @Posted By: Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, I dont need to debate on this issue cos I believe in God and there is no need for me to argue with you at all. I don’t believe in what scientists say about creation and evolution cos it’s crap.

        • You can believe all that you want in this world as long as you don’t try to impose your beliefs on others like you just did in your first comment, telling me God created me blah blah, it is fine…

I know people who believe in Mohammed, I know people who believe in the Zeus God, I know people who even believe in the Apollo God, Ares,Hera, Hestia and the many of the over thousand gods that humanity have in our lives on earth imagined and conjured.

We are free to belief whatever we want. But to me, I find believing in anything including a God without evidence not a journey worth pursuing, and something that will eventually kill civilization.

I did not argue with you, you came (enough though not well informed on the God subject) to address me.
