The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has registered its displeasure regarding the tension mounting up after the just ended Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Ghana and has called on all the political parties to let cool heads prevail to ensure peace.

The Union is not pleased with the turn of events because prior to the elections, they organised various activities to drum peace into the ears of Ghanaians by putting together a number of peace songs from various musicians from different genres and languages from all over the country.

He said due to the fact that Ghanaians cherish and value peace, the peace songs were patronized. The Union did not stop there, they organised two big musical peace concerts in Accra and Kumasi and continued to preach and drum the importance of peace to Ghanaians.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the Union’s President, Bice Osei Kufuor also known as Obour said as responsible model citizens, they are not happy with the ongoing tension following the declaration of the finals results by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The president said having done all the above, they are very concerned that, their work is going waste as tension mounts up with pockets of issues here and there.

“We therefore get very concern when after all the efforts put in by our members and other well meaning groups and civil society organizations, the very peace we preached and promoted seems to be under threat”.

Mr Obour conceded that “Yes the electoral process might have experienced some short comings”, continuing that “but our humble appeal to all stakeholders is that cool heads should prevail and together help find lasting solutions to the challenges confronting our nation without disturbing the peace architecture of our great nation.”

He said the Union is calling on leadership of this great country to show leadership by reaching out to each other and together helping find lasting solutions to the challenges the country is facing regarding the electoral process.

He admonished the politicians to see the challenges the country is facing as a national challenge and not that of one political party or the other. “It is only when we address the issues as a national issue that we are going to win as a nation.” He ended.

In a separate interview, Obour told GhanaCelebrities.Com that, “I believe strongly that, justice plays a role in peace.”

He said MUSIGA welcomes the decision of the opposition party to go to court to seek redress saying, “That’s due process. Court is a due process … We believe that… thats is why we have a constitution. Anybody who has an issue and seeks the court for redress, that’s due process. We fully support it because we feel that’s what makes the institution strong. That’s why the court is there but the process where somebody takes the law into their own hands or somebody moves out of the due process and start attacking [people] is what we are against. We don’t want that to happen.”

The entire membership of MUSIGA called on Busumuru Kofi Annan who has mediated several high profile violent conflicts to step in and help solve the issues as the court deal with legal issues.
