Ghana Ranked 4th Among 46 Places To Visit In 2013 By New York Times

Visit Accra

It feels good to know that Ghana is listed in the minds and books of many people when it comes to places to visit, for reasons such as the country’s peace, hospitality of its people, beautiful tourist attraction sites and it being the gateway to West Africa-business and pleasure!

In a recent article by the New York Times, Ghana was listed 4th about the 46 places recommended to visit in 2013. And this is what was written about Accra-Ghana…

“Accra, the capital of Ghana, has welcomed business travelers for years. Now tourists are streaming in, a byproduct of the fact that the country has Africa’s fastest-growing economy and is also one of its safest destinations. The Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel (with poolside bar and waiters on roller skates) opened in 2011, and the Marriott Accra — the chain’s first sub-Saharan offering — will feature a casino and upscale shopping when it opens in the spring. On Accra’s packed beaches, you’ll see everything from snake handlers to plantain peddlers. Head to the upscale neighborhood of Osu and hit the treehouse-inspired terrace at Buka for fine West African food. The best Ghanaian adventures start with a giant plate of tomato-smothered tilapia and banku — a fermented yeast paste that’s tastier than it sounds — washed down with local Star beer. — Karen Leigh”

GREAT RIGHT?

No wonder both of their legs are left. (k)
At first they brag with their oil which they refine in Ghana cos until now they dont have any stable refinery in the whole country, but now Ghana is blessed with oil and peaceful citizens around the world .

  5. Marcel its the “local” Ghanaians who talk that way. I have LOADS of Ghanaian friends, many of whom i worked with and some as investment bankers in Lagos (they marvel about how developed Lagos is and how cheap things are there). Most exposed Ghanaians dont talk like how Miyagi and Calibre talk, these are small minded folks who managed to have internet access. I have dated 3 Ghanaians girls as well and they are AWESOME people with great personality. Its only these “local ones” who managed to get a single entry visa to god knows where that utter such rubbish. Meanwhile I find the news on this blog very one-sided and selective…trending topics everywhere since Friday is about Jackie Appiah’s Nigerian boyfriend etc….but Ghanacelebrities has pics of wanluv Kubulour’s baby mama….yawnnnnnnn

    • @Frog, they probably are cool guys, and yes maybe my words where a bit harsh…but honestly speaking, that rivalry only seems to exist in Ghana or online…in Nigeria, nobody really talks or knows a lot about Ghana (its normal for people to ask me stuff like who is the president of Ghana?) and Ghanaians are GENERALLY liked. There was a particular bar in Lagos where droves of Lagosians where shedding tears when Ghana was beaten in the last world cup…. I kinda told them that i spent sometime in Accra and people where clapping at a bar in Osu called Honeysuckle when Greece thwacked 9ja,lol.

Generally Lagosians DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, have a rivalry against Ghana, got so many Ghanaians friends working in Lagos and they have never faced any xenophobia or insult or have even been called a “foreigner”, just “omo Ghana” which translates to child of Ghana.

Come to Lagos and marvel at the city, i recently just got back from Lagos with a Ghanaian friend of mine and she couldnt get over what she saw or the reception she got there, she found  Lagos LIGHT YEARS ahead of Accra in terms of development, cheaper products (she bought a 32’inch LED in the game store at Lekki for the equivalent of GH 520).  All Calibres comments dont even make sense. Nigeria’s is like 4 different countries in one, and what you guys read or hear mostly is Northern Nigeria with about 50m muslims or the Niger Delta….

And about Nigerians using Ghanaian passports shows the rot in the Ghana immigration system…heard the Ghanaian passport can be bought for GH 500 or something so the Ghanaian authorities are just as corrupt and complicit as the Nigerians….besides you’d be shocked to know that a lot of Ghanaians in Mitcham in greater London and Texas hold Nigerian passports…. thing is, you guys read news from a one sided stand-point…I suggest you travel more.

They say that bad publicity is still publicity, so next time you bad mouth Nigerians as Boko Haram, terrorist, armed robbers, fraudster…dont be shocked if your girlfriend leaves you for one, or if a 9ja boy is piping her on the side.

I have travelled to almost all the regions in Ghana because of work, apart from WA area, and the things ‘ave seen would surprise you so talking about mad women and men with erections is funny….when I was in Bawku in ’09 they actually had child soldiers burning houses and property there….anyways….

They say that bad publicity is still publicity, so next time you bad mouth Nigerians as Boko Haram, terrorist, armed robbers, fraudster…dont be shocked if your girlfriend leaves you for one, or if a 9ja boy is piping her on the side (as is the trend with most of your actresss, female entertainers or university chicks)….the effect of your negative and unfounded talks is adverse….

      • @Harvey, its just that most nigerians don’t have love for each other I sometimes visit nigeriafilms.com and they way and manner which they insult their own is quite dishearting.I just don’t and cant get. They shd remember that an empire cannot destroy itself within unless it has destroied itself without

        • @Frog,, And are you guys any better? do you have any idea how polarized Ghana can be…its either NPP or NDC…or how Ewe’s think of Ashantis as illiterate or how everyones thinks of Ewes are fetish or how Northerns are called “Zongo” looked down and are heavily marginalized. Its the same with Ghanaweb…you should see the amount of times people write “Ashanti monkey” etc or about personal insults to political figures and entertainers

All that stuff you read online is empty banter…we like ourselves and inter-marry a lot…all 3000 tribes and languages in Nigeria (you guys only know about 3 in Ghana, lol)
Itsekiri, Urhobo, Kwale, Isoko, Auchi, Agbor, Okpe, Ishan, Benin, Calabari, Ikwerre, efik, tiv, kanuri, Kabba, Igbera, are examples of mutual exclusive languages for some enlightenment

Before you make definitive statements about Nigeria…go there! I can do so about Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso cause I have been to these countries and can give first information not reading cheap blogs etc.

          • @Harvey, Stop talking nonsense okay God loves Ghanaians as much he loves Nigerians. Therefore for you to open your mouth and make derogatory comments about Ghana and Ghanaians a people created by God-can only invoke the anger of God as we are seeing now in the affairs of your country. If Nigerians claim they love their country then they should go down on their knees and pray for their country because the signs are ominous. The signs are indeed very worrisome and the next 15 months are going to very critical for Nigeria. Stop castigating and on us Ghanaians and who knows God will have mercy on your land. Continue in your ways and suffer the consequences

Do you folks know the number of Nigerians currently living in Ghana? Officially, there are well over two million Nigerians currently living in Ghana and thousands of Nigerians are crossing the border every single day. If Nigeria is better than Ghana, as some ignorant, arrogant and ill-informed people are often quick to suggest, then why is such heavy traffic from Nigeria to Ghana? P.s whoever your friend is must be a big sell out probably looking for quick money why would I want to visit your country while I got a beautiful country with beautiful people

          • @Dr. Miyagi Atopa, yes there are about 2 million Nigerians in ghana….and at 180 million people…thats roughly about 1% of the total population…so I dont know where u get your info from that Nigerians are trooping to Ghana??? Go to Togo, Benin and you would easily get more than 2million Nigerian living there.

There’s 2million Nigerians in the UK as well as roughly 3 million in the USA (We are the second highest immigrants after the English)…it all balls down to the enormous population…

Do you know how many Ghanaians live in Nigeria? About 300,000….that’s more than 10% of your total population. I have never castigated Ghanaians and would never do so, I dont look down or insult anyone, but u need to get your facts right and forget the hype.

Nigeria is one of Africa foremost emerging markets and the reason you hear Forbes and co doing articles that the richest black woman and man are Nigerians is just to validate or give Credence to Westerns wanting to do business there.

There’s a dominos pizza on almost every street, there’s a walmart coming up and I hear there’s IHOP etc in the works…mate before you analyze Nigeria, dont be ignorant and visit….

          • @Harvey, why would Frog want to visit Nigeria while she got a beautiful country. In this decade to understand some people in Nigeria, you have to start watching animal planet and I’m sure you know that

          • @Dr. Miyagi Atopa, yup! but then you are watching and intrigued….and if your girlfriend watches animal planet too she’ll know how Nigerians mate in the wild and might want to give it a shot….you keep talking we keep piping. Cheerio mate.

I know that in Nigeria kidnapping and fraud is what majority of the citizens do for a living

I base my arguments on facts not hate like the way you Nigerians hate Ghanaians just because the world see us as good mannered people

@if your mother has gone to the market and you say she is at the kitchen cooking na you hunger go kill ,if Nigerians are been kidnapped ,bombed ,fraud killed is your own country.

@harvey calculate numbers of people including innocent children boko HARAM have killed in Nigeria for me and tell me how much money you have made from kidnapping….

Ghana is a tourist haven because the white man is still king over there. In today’s Nigeria, white people are shamed to their bone marrows when they see BLACK PEOPLE owning most of the businesses;banks, nite clubs, cinemas, hotels, restarunts, bars, cars u name it. Nigerians dont suck up to white folks, funny enough, these days we see them as broke A$ses. Lagos alone dwarfs Accra in all ramifications and i havent even mentioned Abuja or Port-harcourt. Naija keeps growing in spite of all her numerous challenges,we’ve evolved the biggest entertainment industry in Africa. Denzel washington is due in Naija next month for a nollywood movie-and we’ll treat him just like anyone else. That’s NAIJA POWER for you. Ghana is small fry,and utterly insignificant.

Before you make definitive statements about people’s countries…try to visit first, and not what you read or see everyday in your very subjective media. Look through my comments and see if I made a single insult to Ghana as a country, and yes Ghana is a fantastic country, comparing it to Nigeria on the other hand is an unfair one. Nigeria is way more developed infrastructurally and has far more complex issues linguistically, politically, and religiously. All the same you can do what ever you want in your Lagos,if you want to steal,do drugs, arm robbing, bomb, kill is not our problem or kidnap .
I know kidnapping is legal in Nigeria.
