Do You Know That A Can Of Fizzy Drink Increases The Risk Of Developing Life-Threatening Type 2 Diabetes?

Fizzy Drinks

I used to ‘fight’ with my sister every time we had to sit and eat since she is hooked on fizzy drinks. Instead of water, many of us live on fizzy drinks.

Apart from the fact that water is cheaper and far healthier, this is another reason why you should just let go the fizzy drinks. A new research has found out that, a can of a fizzy drink a day could increase the risk of developing life-threatening Type 2 diabetes.

In a research conducted by Scientists from Stanford University, the University of California-Berkley and the University of California-San Francisco, they found that for every additional 150 calories of sugar available per person per day, the prevalence of diabetes in the population rose by one per cent.

According to the research, sugar-based calories, such as those found in fizzy drinks, are much more likely to cause the condition than the same number of calories from any other source.

In fact, this is the first time that scientists have questioned the theory that eating too much of any food is what causes obesity and that the resulting obesity is what causes diabetes.

POLITRICKS OF THE DAY: Kof Wayo Says ‘Useless’ Leaders Are Capitalizing On Ghanaians Because Many Are Illiterates…Do You Agree?

Kofi Wayo
Kofi Wayo

Leader and founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Charles Kofi Wayo has said that Ghanaian leaders know that majority of Ghanaians are not educated as such capitalize on the situation and deceive them all the time.

According to him all our past and present leaders apart from the first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah have not been practical in solving the energy and water crises in the country.

He added that since the politicians see most Ghanaians as illiterates, they are unwilling to involve them in governance as such keep deceiving and lying to them all the time; adding that, they are also doing nothing to ensure that the uneducated get access to education.

The political maverick caustically tongue lashed the past and the present leaders of Ghana except the first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah; describing them as “useless”, and people who don’t listen to advice and not willing to engage Ghanaians who can deal with the present situation in the country.

The enigmatic Kofi Wayo, though admitted that it will not be easy, said the leaders must start from somewhere, and if the energy sector is not functioning then the blame should be on the Energy Ministry and not the Energy Commission since it is the ministry which controls the affairs of the sector.

Speaking on Okay FMs “Ekwan So Dwodwo” programme Monday evening, the international businessman said that the leaders of this country don’t fear God; adding that this is the reason why they are relaxed and are not willing to create any opportunity for the many poor people in the country.

He said that, under the Kufour-led administration, he (Ex-Prez Kufour) never did anything to add up to what Dr. Nkrumah did; and that during his eight years in power; he did nothing except introducing ‘Kufour Gallon’.
