VIDEO: Zayn Malik Of ‘One Direction’ Breaks Down In Tears During Emotional Comic Relief Visit To Children’s Hospital In Ghana

One Direction Red Nose Day

One Direction star-Zayn Malik broke down on camera when the group visited Ghana and saw horrifying reality of suffering in the African country.

In the appeal video aired last night on Let’s Dance For Comic Relief , the glitz and glamour of the celeb world seemed a million miles away as the teenager begged viewers for donations to this year’s Red Nose Day Appeal.

Zayn Malik stated during his appeal that “we all waste money but the most important thing we can all do is give £5 to protect children from these illnesses,”.

One Direction visited Ghana few weeks ago and spent time in the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra to raise awareness of the need for vaccines against preventable disease.

After meeting one young patient, who would not have been in hospital if he had been given a vaccination at birth, the singer became so overcome by emotion he was forced to step outside where he broke down in tears, so frustrated was he at witnessing the boy’s plight.

Shortly after their trip to Ghana, One Direction came under unnecessary attack from certain Ghanaian Celebrities for their activities in Ghana which were mainly to help raise funds for these innocent and needy children in the video.

  2. Personally I believe the reason people still suffer is because as Ghanaians we have pretty much accepted poverty as part of our culture. We have that ‘each to their own’ sort of mentality.

The attack on 1D by those Ghanaian “celebrities” is probably one of the most stupid things i’ve ever seen. Those boys don’t have to be in Ghana at all, it is not their responsibility to come and try help the poor. Now after taken that time to come to Ghana, you want them to basically act like TripAdvisor and spread how beautiful Ghana is….. the cheek.
The Ghanaian football team brought Ghana some recognition from their stint in the world cup, what recognition have these actors and actresses brought, do you ever imagine any Ghanaian movie getting an oscar… (pause for laughter)………
Back on topic, its very sad how Zayn repeats, that it only cost £5 for those vaccines, some children die because their lives aren’t worth a mere £5…. what a shame.
What good becomes of our goal to become more developed if we leave our brothers and sisters behind.

    • @dove,  FINALLY someone actually understands whats up! most ppl on here defend BS….that is how human beings are when embarrassed they defend blindly it takes maturity to accept wrong doing put your hand up and say THIS IS WRONG we need to recognize this….instead of pretending such poverty does not exist. Left to the average Ghanaian they would love to just continue to live their lives and ignore all that is going on and pretend there are not poor children. You want to fight so you can continue to pretend there is no suffering. It’s called guilt…simple!

  3. The gap between the rich & the poor is ever increasing in Ghana & so while MPs are being paid thousands of dollars & people are driving in fancy cars, children are dying because their parent couldn’t afford to vaccinate them. These are part of the reasons why I’ve decided to go back home this year & to work full-time with an agency dedicated to providing services to poor people. To all of us watching this, we may be living comfortable lives in developed countries but if people in our country are still suffering like this & we don’t do anything to help them, it will never be well with us. Ask yourself, what am I doing or what have I done to help the underprivileged folks in Ghana? Thank you.

    • @Afia, Truth and a good plan you have! I only pray u never get faustred in GH. At best Authorities needs to get off their BLACK A’s and start working!
How much or far can an individual go? or a group Go? they still have the power and must be brought to book!
Instead of straingthing the ministries that are under worked, they ARE here creating more to do what? Gay rights in part right? these sick kids or babies do not have any human rights i guess.

When i was young, the visiting nurses in Brown Uniforms comes to the community and house to house, vacinating and giving baby food and preventive measures, where are they now?

Anyways, these are all part of the signs indicating we are living in the last days

  4. Glad I read this piece. I had no idea 1D showed this much love to those kids we have ignored! Ghanaians need lots to learn, we are too quick to judge. I was 1 of those saying silly things about 1D on twitter, now I feel embarrassed! I think i’ve something better to tweet about today; the good intention 1D had for Ghana! Its so sad, am wondering if 1D noticed our silly talks on these social site?
