Is There A Shortage Of Black Models…White Model Poses As An African Queen In New Fashion Editorial

Africa Queen1

Is it that there are no black models out there or is it that black people are not good enough even in our own skin color? Why would Numéro magazine run an editorial titled, “African Queen.”  and then instead of getting a black model for it, they rather got a white model (Caucasian 16-year-old, blond-haired, blue-eyed Ondria Hardin) and paint her black?

It is extensively sickening and out of order. What is this supposed to tell the many black models and aspiring models out there? I know the statement being made here-It is simple as, you are not good for anything and when we need a black models, we will get one of our white people to play black-and we bet she will come out better than yourself.

This goes beyond an industry problem, it is racist, discriminatory and total disregard for the black race. When you come across some of these things, it makes you wonder what some people really take place people for in this world…

And if you thinking it is an error of judgement, you would like to know that  this is not the first time Numéro magazine has done this. In 2010, they dressed Caucasian model Constance Jablonski up in an afro wig and slightly darker makeup, to portray her as a black mother.

    • @lora, I get your point Lora you defo are making some sense BUT what I find very offensive here is, it’s one thing if they want to look like us cool….NO PROBLEM. But they are certainly not giving away jobs to black female models in their place. I don’t see any black models who have been made lighter with blonde hair and blue eyes…so it don’t make sense to me really. I have a black tall beautiful friend who tried for years to get into modelling and though she kept being told she is the right height weight and has the right look they just don’t have a need for that many black models…things are alot better now but you have to ask who this campaign is aimed at? Are they trying to get white ppl to wear these outfits because you won’t catch me trynna look at these and get excited? I cannot identify with the model so I can’t see how the ad was aimed at me or any other black female. When there are soooo many gorgeous black models out there who can rep. I just found it VERY odd.

  3. serioooousssllly?? this is totally uncalled for!!! aren’t there beautiful black models with natural dark skin, with African nose and face? why use this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl who doesn’t even know a thing about being black? Look at her naively posing as an African Queen? so annoying

  5. It’s so sad but I don’t blame them. I blame us as blacks for our total dependency on them and for our lack of innovation. Am not disputing the fact that we are trying but we need to force harder and rub shoulders with them.untill then stuffs like these and more will occur……let’s not get so emotional about this but try and think out of the box. Stay bless.

  6. I wonder if they(whites) also get dis upset when they see pure black women bleach our beautiful skin, wear blue eye contacts and spend huge sums of money to buy hair jst to look like them. We  as blacks dnt value what we have so why the fuss? In fact I think this mag shld be commended rather, they see what we don’t see. They see how beautiful  our skin are n have tried to look lyk us. What is the “racist” in dis? If they  were racists  am very sure they wouldn’t have put anything black in their magazine or?

    • @AMA, I feel black women who do this are insecure ( Beyonce…etc) and nothing to be celebrated. I don’t look at this girl and think beautiful.

  7. There r no boundaries in fashion. As far as am concerned u can take ur creativity to any level. Nothing stops u in fashion. Hence dis mag turned jst an ok white girl into a beautiful African queen. Personally  I think it’s beautiful n it makes me proud as an African
