POLITRICKS OF THE DAY: Any Pastor Who Accepts Govt’s $10,000 To Offer Intercessory Prayers In Israel For Ghana Is A Sham Says Ken Agyepong

Ken Agyepong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has labeled all men of God who agree to be part of the Government sponsored pilgrimage to Israel to ostensibly offer prayers for the country as “fakes”.

A Daily Guide publication on Thursday, March 14, 2013, had it that “on February, 15, 2013, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, who is currently the Minister of Youth and Sports, wrote on the letterhead of the State Protocol Office inviting Christian bodies to select nominees for the pilgrimage.

It added that government was allotting an amount of $2 million to fund the trip to the Holy Land.

Each pastor, the story added, would receive $10,000 amounting to $2 million, to cover their cost of air fare, hotel bills, feeding and per diem.”

Irked by the report, the NPP firebrand, quoting copiously from the Holy Scriptures told King Edward in an interview on HELLO FM in Kumasi that “the Bible said I have created you in my own image. What it means is that, the Lord has created you in His own image so if you believe you want to do something, you can. Again the Bible said, where one or two are gathered in my name, I (the Lord) am there. You don’t need to go to Israel, you can stand at the premises of HELLO FM and pray and GOD will heed to your request”.

The Assin Central MP stressed that the problems confronting the nation cannot and will not be solved by merely flying 200 selected members of the Christian Community to a pilgrimage in Israel to offer intercessory prayers for the country, and suggested that the money earmarked for the intended trip overseas be used to improve the health sector and solve the issue of striking teachers.

“This country can’t just sleep and expect miracles from heaven. Heaven help those who help themselves. They (NDC) can’t select 200 pastors to Israel to pray for the country to end our crisis…this same government is unable to release National Health Insurance (NHI) funds for the poor to benefit from the scheme yet wants to give away $10,000 to pastors….There are serious problems in this country needing to be solved.”

“Any pastor who boldly accepts this $10,000 from President Mahama to pray for the nation is a sham. I dare any such pastor…they are fakes. The Bible said in the end there will be false prophets who will claim I am the Messiah, I am the God, and I am the Christ. These are the times…we are seeing false prophets in this country using the name of God. I (Ken) don’t know whether the President is blind to have trust in these pastors.

“If this two million dollars is given to NAGRAT and GNAT to solve their problems, President Mahama would be highly commended. Even if the alleged money is sponsored by individuals, the President should have directed that the money be channeled to the health sector to solve the teething problems over there,” he concluded.

  1. Instead of using a sum of money like this to cater for some of the numerous crises in the country, they are rather using it for unecessary things.why cant the pastors pray in Ghana?
