We are not sure what to believe at this stage. After public bashing and criticism, the President of the Republic of Ghana-John Mahama has finally spoken about the 200 pastors’ who are to be flown to Israel for religious prayers for the country…

The president has mentioned that, the trip is being fully paid by private sponsors…GOOD RIGHT? Not that fast…

Like his Ministers, he has refused to name these sponsors…If indeed the trip is being financed by private entities, why can’t we know their names and cross-check to make sure state resources are not being wasted?

CitiFm Reports;

President John Dramani Mahama has told the pastors selected for the government-facilitated pilgrimage to Israel that government is ready to abandon the trip if the pastors decline the offer.

Speaking on the issue for the first time, President Mahama said “Unfortunately the whole intent has been misunderstood and it has created some negatives. The circumstances under which various church groups are writing and saying we don’t want to participate; we will take what you want if we should abandon it, we will just tell the private sponsors that unfortunate the church groups are not interested.

“So that they deal directly with you, government will play no part in facilitating it or something… so I want to get your own idea about it,” he asked.

In a meeting on Tuesday with the pastors, President Mahama said government secured private sponsorship for the pastors pilgrimage to Isreal, according to him the pilgrimage is not financed by government, “government is playing only a facilitator role”.

Government has been criticised after news of the trip became public about two weeks ago.

But speaking to leaders of the Christian community who called on him at the Flagstaff House, President Mahama said government is only facilitating the trip but not sponsoring it.

  1. why do these ‘private sponsors’ not want to be identified? even churches who do charity broadcast it nowadays although Jesus said we shouldn’t do that

  2. I guess the part which shocks me in all this is that he’s not soliciting for ‘private sponsors’ to sponsor medical bills of children on NHIS which is falling apart. Neither is he soliciting for ‘private sponsors’ to sponsor a conference with experts in the energy sector to discuss our electricity crisis. Is this where his priority lies? to sponsor some trip to Israel? So do our leaders think about us at all? Mr. President, I like you very much but as for this one, you’ve misfired. Please come again

  3. Since when did this man start having grey hairs all over the body? is he not the same person Abeiku Santana refered to as a Youth four months ago? Even ex-president Kuffour at age 74, looks younger and stronger than him. YOUTH INDEED
