POLITRICKS OF THE DAY: Video + Akuffo Addo Is A FAKE Lawyer, He Was Never Qualified To Practice Law In Ghana Says Justic Kpegah…

Akuffo Addo

REALLY? After years of practicing law and being a senior partner at Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co law firm in Accra, a former Supreme Court Judge-Justice Kpegah has descended on him, calling him an imposter and a fake lawyer…

Justice Kpegah has brought a suit against Nana Addo at the High Court, seeking to expose him as an imposter and praying to the court to immediately close down his law firm as he has no right to set up these offices.

The President of the Greater Accra Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Frank Davies, has described as “laughable“, “childish” and “pedestrian“, a suit filed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Francis Yaonasu Kpegah, against Nana Akufo-Addo, 2012 flagbearer of the NPP for impersonation.

Frank Davies maintains the suit lacks locus.

The 2012 NPP flagbearer has been dragged to an Accra High Court accused of impersonation by Justice Kpegah.

The former Supreme Court Judge is suing the NPP flagbearer for holding himself out as a lawyer when evidence available to him, from sources such as the General Legal Council, proves contrary.

The writ, filed on Tuesday, March 18, also indicts former President Kufuor for appointing Nana Akufo-Addo as Attorney General, who at a point in time was the President of the Greater Accra GBA.

In his writ, the highly respected learned judge stated that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is impersonating W.A.D Akufo Addo who is on the roll of lawyers as No. 1190.

Justice Kpegah is seeking seven reliefs from the court including: “A declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of the General Legal Council Act, Act 38 of 1960 (as amended) unless a person is called to the Bar in Ghana and his name entered in the Roll of Lawyers by the body mandated under the said Act 38 (as amended) to regulate the training and certification of persons after a prescribed course of study, that person cannot be deemed competent to practice law in any court of Ghana.”

He is also asking the court to declare that Nana Akufo is not entitled to practice law in Ghana.

A declaration that the Law Firm established as Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co. at 67 Kojo Thompson Road, Adabraka, Accra is an illegal law firm and therefore not competent to represent any party in litigation before any court in Ghana“.

He is also praying to the court that “A perpetual injunction restraining the said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from holding himself out as a lawyer competent to practise in the Ghanaian courts or anybody regarding him as such.”

Justice Kpegah is further asking the court “to close down the Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co law firm“.

But speaking to the issue, the GBA Greater Accra President questioned the rationale behind Justice Kpegah’s 20 points statement of claim.

In an interview with Evans Mensah of JoyFM, he wondered how someone could challenge Nana Addo’s legality to practice as a lawyer in Ghana, opining that the former Supreme Court judge’s claim, “are not serious allegations, these are pedestrian allegations”.

In spite of the claim by Justice Kpegah that a “discreet investigation” he conducted, revealed that Nana Akufo-Addo was never called to the Ghana Bar, Frank Davies firmly believes the reliefs were just to tarnish the image of the NPP flagbearer

“There could be a defect in sight,” he said in direct response to the claims of a discreet investigation.

“I think we should elevate our political discourse to another level; I think this is childish, with the greatest of all respect to Justice Kpegah,” Frank Davies said.

He also revealed rather interestingly that the NPP flagbearer, who is a former president of the Greater Accra Bar, even practiced law at the Supreme Court before Justice Kpegah who “used to glorify his (Nana’s) legal prowess and referred to him as a distinguished lawyer”.

  1. I’m not sure this case will get anywhere. It’s highly unlikely that a man who’s been a good lawyer for several years, trained many of the top notch lawyers we know today including atta akyea & yonni kulendi, & even served as Ghana Attorney General was never called to the bar. Hmm, we wait to see the outcome of this case.
