The Autism & Intellectual Disability Project To Be Launched In Accra Today

The AID project, a flagship project of Ama Ampomah Mensa, 1st Runner-Up, Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2012, is to be launched in Accra on Saturday 4th May at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel.

The AID Project is an integrated programme designed to provide research, create awareness, raise funds and advocate for the inclusion of people living with Intellectual Disability & Autism into mainstream society.

The alarming trend of utter neglect and policy support inadequacies towards persons living with disabilities and the urgent need of immediate intervention to save a dying mass is what has influenced the decision of Ama to embark on this noble project of national importance.

The launching of the project is being done under the theme, “Building Acceptance for an Inclusive Society with Persons Living with Autism and Intellectual Disability”, the project will among others focus to create a platform that will ensure that every individual diagnosed with Autism & Intellectual Disability can have access to the right education.

According to Ama Amponsah Mensah, the brain behind the project, the era when an entire family could be thrown into a state confusion, just for the mere fact that their relation has been diagnosed with autism & Intellectual Disability should be over with the advent of this Project. It would encourage parents to accept the status of their wards and seek early help and also spearhead the need for such individuals to acquire vacation to be able to live a moderately independent life.

Ama,1st Runner-Up,Ghana’s Most Beautiful, Season VI, further explained that, even though several initiatives have been embarked upon in the area of autism& intellectual disability, it is now time to consolidate the gains made and create an umbrella society to tackle the problem head on.

The launch she believes will seek to address the overwhelming concerns about autism and for society to make sure that the affected people are happy, that they get to live a life where they feel as though they belong.

Critical issues bordering on Stigmatization, Parenting Challenge, Government Support, New Brain Training, Role of Speech Therapy and the Inclusion Challenge will be given prominence during the presentation session of the event.

CPP Presidential Candidate for the 2012 elections will chair the event with support from Chiefs and queen mothers of the Central Region. Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson will be special Guest of Honor.

The climax of the launch will be the lighting of the perpetual flame and display of colorful fireworks at the event. Guests will be treated to musical performances and networking cocktail.
