The Nerd Versus The Funky Guy-Who Would You Rather Date?

Nerd

When it comes to choosing a boyfriend, most women look for excitement, thrill, fun.

The extreme types of man we seek are mainly the Nerd and the Funky guy who I like to call Johnny Bravo. Mr Nerd may not have a six pack because he is at work more than he is in the gym but he still keeps a healthy body.

While we are younger, we may gravitate towards the funky guys, the ‘In Guy’ who your mom hates to see you with but your girlfriends totally envy your sheer luck of being with him.

You may know he is not treating you right but you are holding on because you think his image about town or among your peers gives you some ‘street credibility’. And the few moments of envy from other women sort of makes you believe you are winning.

But deep down your bubble is slowly bursting isn’t it? I will tell you why you need to think again, because when we get into the world, the real world where life goes beyond posing with a popular good looking partner, believe me, swag won’t pay the bills, achievement isn’t about street credibility and time and tide are not your friends!

So why date a nerd? The guy who knows all about science and religion at the same time, the guy who isn’t out bragging about falling out of school and pushing illegal money but is sitting behind his desk on wall street, or in an important firm, rubbing the tiredness off of his eyes over a glass of coffee at 3AM and trying hard to butter his bread abundantly.

The guy who is on a steady achieving road, making bucks, making partner in his 20’s, loving you decently and honourably albeit his shyness.

That awkward guy you laughed at in school and never wanted to be seen with. Let me tell you why you should date him and flaunt it!

Why am I writing this? For my two girlfriends for have dated famous musicians painfully and ended up broken beyond repair. Disclaimer ‘not all musicians are bad to date’ I am just writing out of a small but frequently occurring case study.

The nerd, He is warmly emotional. Yes we all know he is a little awkward and may or cannot hold trendy conversations with your friends at funky parties but you know he means well in all he does.

He is honest to a fault and will not lead you down a path of deception; He wants to make you a better person, a lady of honour. Although this may not be as exciting as the exhilarating nights with ‘Robocop/ Johnny Bravo’, it fulfils the long-term drive.

He Treats You Like a Lady. Instead of watching your phone waiting for Johnny Bravo to call or text you at least once a week, and being disappointed time after time because he is involved in a million exciting things, Mr Nerd will find the time to treat you like a lady.

He will call when he said he will and will not keep you on a long list of women begging for his attention. You will know exactly where you stand. He will make sure you do not doubt how much of a lady you are to him. Mr Nerd forms and keeps strong bonds. He will not publicly or privately disrespect you or your family-which is really what you need.

He brings along a stability is relationships as he does with his life. Everything he involves himself in is a serious matter to him and he treats it as such. He works towards a fulfilling partnership with you. So why wouldn’t you rather be a lady? 😀

He is Intelligent, so although he may not be able to hold it down funkily with your peers, he will score with your mother, aunties, father, and the people who are serious minded in your life.

He knows about the world and how it rotates in ways that matter, he is very responsible, holds a responsible job, has planned for and invested in a formidable future way before his peers learnt the ABC of financing.

He is a strong force to reckon with in the real world and you cannot go wrong with him by your side.

He Listens to You and Values Your Opinion although he is smarter than you of course; he still listens to you with appreciation and admiration. He won’t go on about being the ultimate source of knowledge of the whole world of fashion and lifestyle. He will listen to you when you speak, he will hear you and do right by you.

He is Decent. Most nerds haven’t been with a harem but although that means little less relationship experience, it also means he is clean and you will not hear wonderful, embarrassing stories that will shame you to the bone for just being with him. His buddies are also almost like him and will treat you with respect and you can be sure they are not influencing him in bad ways.

You will be a happier woman. You are more likely to find him debating over games and science, politics or finance than sitting at a lewd spot talking crap and chasing skirts like ‘Johnny Bravo’ Hahahaa!. Now why wouldn’t you rather date Mr Nerd?

And you know the bonus, when you complain about your laptop, phone or car, he will get down on his knees and try to fix it or find a way to fix it. Because Mr Nerd is also Mr, Fixer. He loves to fix situations. He won’t leave you stranded or tight strung, he will fix you! (Yea, all puns intended)

Nerds are Surprisingly Funny. Many nerds have a textbook sense of humour unlike Mr Funky/ Mr Johnny Bravo. So no you won’t get a funky or dirty joke for laughs but do not despair, his sense of humour is more cerebral, quick, sharp, smart…name it.

He is a deeper, more practical and hands on kind of joker and if you are lucky to be smart enough, you will both find humour in many things around you and find good chuckles that last and have beautiful private moments between you two.

You can be yourself so instead of working yourself into frustrations trying to be a bombshell; you have no problem with the nerd. You can wear slippers in your natural hair to his doorstep and he will still welcome you like the goddess Venus herself just showed up at his doorstep.

So tell me, wouldn’t you rather date a nerd? 😉
