HERE WE GO AGAIN: Israeli Couple Living In Belgium Have Been Told They Can’t Call Their Newborn Daughter Jerusalem

Alinadav and Hagar Hyman

Few days ago, we reported that a Tennessee couple went to court over child support issues, little did they know the name of their child would come into question and that they would be as much as forced to change the child’s name on the Judge’s decision that the name-MESSIAH would cause problems for the child.

Reports coming out of Belgium has it that, Israeli couple living in Brussels who wanted to name their first child-Alma Jerusalem have been told they can’t—-as officials have refused to register the name which they claim is not on the list of approved baby names.

And I am sure it is because of some religious hate/reason…

According to Mail Online;

An expat Israeli couple have been told by the authorities in Belgium that they cannot call their daughter Jerusalem.

Hagar and Alinadav Hyman, who live in Brussels, wanted to name their first-born Alma Jerusalem.

However, officials in the city refused to register the name because Jerusalem is not included on a list of approved names for babies born in Belgium.

The couple, who have lived and worked in Brussels for the last three years, said they were left amazed by the decision.

Speaking to Israel Today, Mr Hyman said:  ‘The clerk asked for the baby’s name, so I said “Alma Jerusalem”.

‘After checking the computer, the clerk said Alma was OK, but that Jerusalem did not appear on the list of approved names, so could not be used for the baby’s name.’

The couple said they wanted to name their daughter after their home country’s capital because they grew up in Jerusalem and both miss the city.

However, the clerk at the municipal offices in Brussels did offer a compromise to them.

He said if they obtained a letter from the Israeli embassy confirming that Jerusalem is a valid name, then they could issue the couple with a Belgian birth certificate.

But Mr Hyman has said this has not helped and has left them feeling trapped.

‘We cannot take the baby to Israel because she has no passport, and without Israeli consular approval, the Belgians won’t register the birth,’ he said.

Mrs Hyman works as a security agent with Israel’s El Al Airlines while her husband works in the European Parliament.

Earlier this year, officials in New Zealand released a list of baby names which were put forward by parents for their children but rejected by the authorities.

The list of 77 names shows that the parents of one child wanted to call it ‘Anal’.

Other suggested names on the list included ‘Lucifer’, ‘Mafia No Fear’ and ‘Queen Victoria’.

One child was set to be called ‘.’, as in ‘full stop’ until the authorities prevented it.

Other bizarre examples show that some parents appeared to have given up on thinking of a name for their child, with names ‘2nd’, ‘3rd’ or 5th’ all put forward.

The name rejected most often was ‘justice’ which was turned down 62 times. Combinations on this including ‘Juztice’ and ‘Justus’ were also refused.

In 2008, a court in the country ordered that a girl called ‘Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii’ should have her name changed.

The judge in the case criticised parents who give their children odd names. He gave examples including ‘Number 16 Bus Shelter’ and twins called ‘Benson’ and ‘Hedges’.
