Tipped To Overtake Azonto, Alkayida, Alqaeda Or Alkayeda-Pretty Useless !

Alqaeda

I am sure by now you’ve heard of the new dance movement springing out of Ghana called Alkayida, Alqaeda Or Alkayeda.

Just like the name which does not have a single correct spelling, the moves that define the dance cannot also be pin-pointed.

I am told this is a new dance invented to take over Azonto and become the next big thing to come out of Ghana. To this, I say; it will never happen and I have my reasons…

First of all, Azonto is well defined in terms of its moves and choreography with a distinctive historical association. The moment someone starts dancing and it is Azonto, you can confidently say what it is…

Maybe it is just me—I think there is no consistency or repetition of strings in what we term as Alkayida, Alqaeda or Alkayeda. It is therefore difficult to know what sort of movements fall under the umbrella of this dance.

Apart from the lack of well-defined movements to help identify this new dance being pushed by certain Ghanaians as the new ‘craze’ in town, the name alone will make it unappealing for any international media house to give it the sort of attention Azonto  has received.

No matter how it is spelt, the pronunciation links your mind to a global militant Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden in Peshawar, Pakistan called Al-qaeda (sometimes spelt as Al-Qaida).

Who in the Western world wants to know or be part of a dance with such a close association—in terms of pronunciation and spelling?

If you have ever lived in the West, you would know how uncomfortable it is for anyone to mention the word Al-qaeda. I have friends who will not even  type any word which comes close to Al-qaeda in an E-mail or mention that over the telephone—-for fear of being put under surveillance.

I cannot therefore see media outlets like the CNN, BBC and others who gave Azonto an International platform doing the same for this new craze of dance that carries if not the same name, a closely related name of the West’s biggest enemy.

Even if the dance develops to have well-defined movements which it currently lacks, its ‘not so carefully thought of name’ will make it difficult for it to attain that level of International fun Azonto enjoyed.

Who will be man enough to be on the streets at night, shooting Alkayida, Alqaeda Or Alkayeda in the UK or USA? Try it and before you know, the FBI or Mi5 will be on your case…

It may be fun to you if you live in Africa but to those in the West, certain names come with serious headache and unimaginable consequence.

This seems like a piss take to me…Millions of people are dying because of what we know as Al-qaeda.

What do you also think of this new dance tipped to overtake Azonto?
