POLITRICKS OF THE DAY: Let Akufo-Addo Enjoy His Political Break–Wereko Brobby

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey

Democracy is being allowed to vote for the candidate you dislike least—Robert Byrne.

According to MyjoyOnline.Com;

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, suspended founder member of opposition New Patriotic Party says the leadership of the party is endorsing the unlawful conducts of officers who are openly declaring support for Nana Akufo-Addo to run for the flagbearership position again.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby noted that ongoing maneuverings by some regional executives to get the 2012 flagbearer to lead the party for the third time ahead of the 2016 polls, have the tendency to sow seeds of dissension in the NPP.

Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Friday, Tarzan as he popularly called, said officers of the party who are declaring support for the twice defeated presidential hopeful, are acting in contravention to the NPP constitution.

“It is totally wrong for anyone in an official capacity to declare his support for Nana [Akufo-Addo]…If he wishes to run again, there is a process to be followed,” stressed the Chief Policy Analyst of the Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options (GIPPO).

Nana Akufo-Addo announced minutes after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition he filed to challenge the outcome of the 2012 polls, that he was taking a break from politics for some time. However, party faithful have since been urging him to rescind his decision and lead the party again into the next presidential and parliamentary elections.

But Dr. Wereko-Brobby, who is serving a two year suspension for making ‘damaging remarks’ about the NPP, said Nana Akufo-Addo must not allow his house to be used to perpetuate unwarranted conducts to hurt the party.

“If Akufo-Addo wants to take a break from politics, he should move out of the country to prevent people from trooping to his house. It is totally wrong for people to go his house and declare support for him,” he said.

He said the NPP should rather be doing a postmortem analysis into why the party failed to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress and begin planning for the next elections, instead of declaring open support for the man who twice led them into defeat.

Tarzan, however, sounded hopeful that Akufo-Addo will make a better impact in the next elections if he decides to contest, but emphasised that this is not the time for party officials to be engaging themselves in manipulations to get him to call off his political break.
