The Christian And The ‘Enemy’….WITHIN

Prayer

If you’re a Christian and you believe you DO NOT have an enemy, have a re-think or a ‘de-believe’ that fact – or myth. As a regular church goer (OK, I just lied…not regular), I have over the years noticed an interesting aspect in the area of ‘prayer time’, and this when we are directed to pray for or against.

If the prayer has to do with thanking God,  praying for your country, home country, parts of the world where there is distress, the church (congregants, leadership) or even our families (children, husband, wife), everyone prays diplomatically. Of course they’re praying but as ladies and gentlemen looking good and smelling fresh, they must maintain their ‘personality’ and composure.

When the prayer point of ‘pray against the ENEMY, the killer of your sorrows, the enemy who does not want your progress, the ‘person’ holding your marriage and your happiness, that Holy Ghost fire will burn them etc.’….There you will notice what is called prayer.

The whole auditorium becomes charged, you will hear what the next person has got to say and send back to the enemy. Bottom line – thunderous prayer, the type that shakes the floor. Missiles fired here and there, people break in sweat even if it’s snowing. The first time I encountered this interesting thing was when I started attending ‘charismatic churches’. I was brought up a Presbyterian so was used to the (then) type of solemn worship and prayer.

The issue is, have we stopped for once to ask ourselves who we are binding and burning with fire. Where lies our/the enemy?

– If I am fully involved with a married man (even though I have often been approached by single, hardworking guy I have constantly ignored), not just ‘chopping’ small but slithering my way to gain wife status and the man is not budging. If I am praying against the enemy holding my marriage and casting the enemy to hell fire; who and what am I casting? His wife or me?

–  I’m always late to work, work haphazardly, cry racism at the least opportunity when I’m wrong etc. When I have a disciplinary meeting on Monday, I stand in church on Sunday and start binding the Manager, my colleagues who reported me and tell the Holy Ghost fire to burn them because they are enemies of progress….?

– As a married woman/man, your home comes second; you’ve even forgotten why you married in the first place. It’s either work, all the time (husband) or night vigil and prayer session all the time, bedroom is limited to missionary style because your body is the temple of God (wife), The husband cannot recall the last time he saw your nakedness. If one starts getting all the things he/she lacks within outside, you pray against the enemy? Common on!

We lie, steal, cheat, fight, fornicate, covet, not charitable to others and proclaim the name of God even at the height of ecstasy when in bed with somebody’s wife or husband (adultery).  When we’re caught out and the marriage crushes, we pray against the enemy who unzipped our skirts and trousers. The above scenarios are just examples out of the lot of issues and wrongs we do in our everyday lives.

So who really is the enemy we raise our voices to pray against? Our character, good works and doing what is right is all we need to wear that badge of Christianity but that is what we quickly forget when we start sinning ‘small’. Very funny enough, we never forget to blame the devil who was thrown out of heaven for pride.

We love to blame the ‘enemy ‘ for all our wrong doings and the bad decisions and risky journeys we undertake even though we know so well it is bound to cause our downfall. We ease our guilt and conscience when we assure ourselves that someone sitting somewhere is to be blamed for all the scars we’ve inflicted on ourselves.

Or is it the familiar spirits we are praying against? Of course not because we’ve familiarized ourselves with them and you cannot ‘fire’ someone you know to be burnt by Holy Ghost. You burn strangers you don’t know so we’re definitely not praying against that.

So surely, that enemy we are praying against is in the above list and where does he/she reside….WITHIN, INSIDE, INDOORS, IN THE INTERIOR. Pick the one you easily understand…it’s all the same!

  1. i think dat de enemy we smtimes pray abt is our charater and attitude. as de bible says dat de “devil is looking for smone to ………”, so when you exihibit charaters dat de needs. we make it easy for the devil to use and influence us. how ever we cannot rule the fact dat some of de problems dat we face too re cause by other people who have allowed de devil to use dem. when we pray, let us do it for renewal of mind and heart for ourselfs and others, then God himself will bind de devil.

  2. Hahahahhahaha…. interesting one… Personally, I don’t pray like that… I have no time to pray “”ABOUT”” the devil or enemy. I prefer to pray for what I want – to pray to God. eg: God help me stop the bad things I do, God help me overcome these advcances from that man; God help me etc, etc. and make a consciious effort to do the right thing always inviting God into it. I do not believe that anybody can bind the devil. Even God didn’t – He rather sent him away and he has been around till today… ours is to stand behind God in the battle btwn God and Satan.. you do not stand inbetween them to fight yourself… the battle is the Lord’s the good word says that.. yours is to believe with faith that He will do what we ask him…
