It is not rare these days to see our celebrities dabble in ventures other than what they are celebrated for. If it isn’t a foundation to support the needy in society, it most likely would be fashion. Alternatively, actors pick up the flair for music and musicians for acting. Some actors also tend to develop interest in producing after being on the screens for a while. Well Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim is definitely not an exception. She continues to spread her tentacles far and wide but this time our focus is on her first self produced movie, ‘Number 1 Fan’ which premiered at the National Theatre on the 25th of October, 2013.

I remember thinking to myself “Wow!” as I walked into the National Theatre for the premiere of Juliet Ibrahim’s first self produced movie ‘Number 1 Fan”. It didn’t look like the National Theatre I have always known. The atmosphere was very… Hollywood, for lack of a better description: The red carpet walk, the security, the paparazzi, the interview stand and of course the celebrities.  But the one thing we all had in common however was to finally watch the much anticipated movie, ‘Number 1 Fan” produced by Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim and directed by Moses Sneeze, a Nigerian director.

The story line is based on a star-actress, Lala Gam-Hammond (played by Juliet Ibrahim) who had it all!  A career spanning over a decade had seen her win many awards and a huge fan base and mouth-watering endorsements. Then, during her surprise birthday bash Lala springs her own surprise by first announcing she was pregnant and was retiring to raise a family and pursue a new interest. Not all present welcomed the news. So, when she dubiously lost the baby, through a deliberate act of poisoning that almost took her life, it was clear that someone at the party wanted to keep the goose laying eggs!

Police detective, Kwesi Trapp (Comedian, AY) pulls up a rich list of persons of interest – all of whom will be greatly affected by Lala’s retirement. Is it her loving husband, John Hammond (Yemi Blaq) who was in trouble with a mining mogul and needed Lala to do “one last job” to save his neck? Or the artist manager, Kiki Appiah (KC Ejelonu) whose only source of livelihood was her only client, Lala? Perhaps it is the young designer, Fish (Keitta) who just got hired as Lala’s stylist or the mining mogul himself, Jack Tettey (Koffi Adjorlolo). Then there is the overwhelming favorite: her stalker-neighbor, the sexy but twisted Wendy James (Sonia Ibrahim), who has not hidden her obsession for Lala.

Events unraveled like an onion, as Kwesi Trapp’s unusual investigative methods peel off layer after layer until the true Number 1 Fan is revealed!

The movie ended with an unexpected twist and received a huge applause from the audience. Popular opinions gathered by GhanaCelebrities.Com on the movie were thumbs up for the actress whilst others thought she did a better job at producing than acting.

I think it was a very unique story line and give Juliet Ibrahim a B+ for the effort. Good job girl!
