WHAT THE HECK: Beauty Pageant For SKIN BLEACHERS In Ghana Called ‘Miss Fair & White’ & Kafui Danku Is The Face of It?

Kafui Danku-Miss Fair and White
Kafui Danku-Miss Fair & White

I’ve not met Kafui Danku before but I spoke to her the last time I was in Ghana. We were supposed to meet up but I was flying off the same day so the meeting had to be cancelled.

From the minutes I spent on the phone with Kafui Danku (plus what I know about her), she comes across as a smart determined person and with Samira Yakubu being her current manager, I have been waiting for her to take over as the next big Ghanaian film star.

This is why I am extremely shocked and to some extent disgusted by her recent ‘business decision’ as the face of a pageant which calls itself ‘Miss Fair & White’.  Kafui Danku was over the weekend crowned Miss Fair & White 2014…

Miss F&W is reported to be an initiative surrounding Fair and White Gold, a beauty product which is “designed to tone and protect the skin from the direct sun rays”. Take note of the words beauty product and tone—and you know where this is heading.

‘Fair & White’ products are for skin lightening/bleaching and that is the plain TRUTH!

In my estimation, this is all about; a company that sells bleaching/toning products seeking to gain sales by organizing a beauty pageant (probably to encourage bleaching which we now refer to as lightening/toning) and rising star Kafui Danku is proud to be associated with it.

I am sure every rational person can see where this is heading by just considering the name of the product, the pageant and what the product does. What is Fair & White?  Simply google; Fair & White Beauty Products’ and see for yourself…

Is this where we are going with the fight against skin bleaching/toning?

I’ve reached out to Kafui Danku’s manager to establish if her client realizes that her association with the above pageant and product comes across as promoting skin bleaching/toning—even though we don’t have any reason to believe she is bleaching/toning her skin at the moment…

But as the e face of Fair and White products for a year, Kafui will be given F&W products to use and as an ambassador, her duty will include service to Ghanaian women and men by sharing the benefits of Fair and White products…

Even Yvonne Nelson will not allow her face to be used for a bleaching cream—despite all her unsustainable Brazilian ‘ancestors-ship’ claims…

    • @Franklyn, Are you sure she does not bleach? From the photo up there I see bleaching all written over her face. Maybe my laptop screen is the one bleaching then

    • @Franklyn, Whether she has bleached or not, is not the issue. The issue at hand is that she is representing a bleaching cream, and she is going to advertise for that cream so that other blind folks will buy. Now, the logical question is; how do you campaign for something (know something works) if you haven’t tried it? Either they are going to make her lie or she is GOING TO BLEACH!!! Either way you look at it; this is not good for her image!
