Christmas is just around the corner and very soon our dear country would be filled with returnees from all over the world. There would be all kinds of events throughout the Christmas season and for some of us Ghanaians living in Ghana, it could be quite difficult keeping up with all the activities especially in the present state of the economy. Being a veteran in the Ghanaian social scene, I have prepared a few tips for our lovely readers to ensure that you make the most of the festivities.

You must know a returnee:

By returnee, I am referring to all the ‘innit’ people who come into the country for Christmas holidays. You see, it is during Christmas that all the latest fashion trends are released onto the streets of Accra courtesy of the ‘borgas’. By attaching yourself to a ‘borga’, you are sure to get some free clothes from abroad.

Also hanging out with someone who has a British, American, or even a Turkish accent will ensure that people take you more seriously when you step out. So please, log into your facebook and start searching for all your long lost friends who might make it to Ghana this December. It’s not too late to re-solidify your friendship, since we are still in November.

Establish a very positive relationship with Katamanto:

You might get a few clothes from your friends abroad, but that would not be enough to cover all the events you might want to go. Remember, you don’t want to be caught in the same outfit twice since you may find our photos on GhanaCelebritiess.Com.

You should start paying religious visits to our very own department store, the largest in the world-Katamanto. Do not underestimate the power of the ‘bend down boutique’ as you could get some amazing pieces at very low prices. Also remember that you would be competing with the “borgas” who will get their clothes brand new so be sure to spend more time looking—-so that you will only buy the best.

Develop your own foreign accent:

Ghanaians are generally fascinated with foreign accents, and since town would be infested with all kinds of accents, it wouldn’t hurt to develop one of your own. Just watch a couple of American and British movies, coin your own pronunciations, and you would be just fine. Or very easily just add ‘innit’ at the end of every sentence and you could be mistaken for someone who just landed from the UK.

Put extra effort in your appearance:

During this time, you should make a conscious effort to step up your game. Before you leave your house, if possible, take a picture of your outfit and upload to Facebook or Instagram. The number of likes or comments you get within a short time will help you know if you are really looking good or not.

Several returnees will be filling the streets of Accra and you don’t want to be at the bottom of the food chain. Ensure that you don’t look too local in your outfits by avoiding clothes that almost every other Ghanaian owns.
