READERS’ MAIL: The Hypocrisy Of Black People, They Even Have An Award Show Called ‘Black Girls Rock’

Black-Girls-Rock-1

I do not personally care about such things or the rational behind BET’s Black Girls Rock Award Show which was held earlier this month but I can perfectly see how offensive it will be for black people if the BBC had something like ‘White Girls Rock’.

Few months ago, I witnessed the disgusting uproar on this blog-GhanaCelebrities.Com when a light skinned Ghanaian celebrity-Menaye Donkor said; light girls rule. Most of the dark skinned people conjured offensiveness from out of no where and attached it to her message…

This is a black woman just saying her colour shade rules and it was a third world war for others. On this basis, can you imagine what sort of war it will be if any mainstream white media had something like ‘White Girls Rock’?

I am a white woman married to an African and personally I do not find this offensive but I find it hypocritical of black people who are happy to celebrate their race and throw it in the face of others. But the moment other race-White, decides to celebrate or do anything close to what they do, it becomes RACISM and OFFENSIVE to them.

I want to keep this short and so will end by asking;  how come no black person thinks the Award show ‘Black Girls Rock’ is offensive to white people. But same black people would have found ‘White Girls Rock’ extremely offensive?

  1. Black women are seldom represented in the media. Thus this show was meant to showcase the beauty and the many achievements of black women. In a society that often glorifies white beauty as the standard of beauty,, and puts down black beauty, this show sends the right message to young black girls that they are beautiful too and that they can achieve whatever they put their mind to. Black women were not offended by this because they are seldom representated in the media. They saw this as a positive thing for black women.

  3. I so agree with the comments above… In a world where black people are underrepresented in media, politics, even to the point that black men that rise high up have to be linked to a white woman to be properly acknowledged, this is the one means or a programme we are using to send a message to black up and coming teenage gals that no matter what the media says, they can also look up to these black girls being awarded today and go on to achieve regardless of skin colour. To the author of the article.. Please don’t be offended…. White girls have been rocking since time immemorial, you don’t need a psychic to tell you that all these media attention showered on white people has a name and in literal terms it’s called “White girls rock” it’s just not been written in black and white but to me the world we live in is a world called white girls rock. We just had to voice ours cos we are a minority.

  5. Dear ‘Mrs’ White woman Jessica, if your ancestors had not enslaved, colonized & dehumanized black people for 4 centuries & more, like we wouldn’t have had the need for any black people rock or BET. So better blame your forefathers & stop making noise in our ears. After all, when we were in Africa before you guys invaded, we were happy. It was when you people came that you told us our skin is too dark, our hair is too kinky, our customs are barbaric, our religion is demonic etc. making some of us bleach our skin, straighten our hair & shun our names & cultures for your own. Today, by God’s grace,  we’re finding pride in ourselves again. A black woman is the President of the U.S. We are embracing African pride, natural hair & shows like Black Girls Rock. So leave our one award show & one TV channel for us & go & watch your Fox, CBS, ABC that would always show white people & then enjoy your Oscars, Golden Globes & Emmys which always prefer to give awards to ‘white’ movies & only once in a blue moon would award a black actor or movie. Mcheeew.

  6. Heeeei cut the troll. She only made an observation and she’s sooo right in her assertion. Over flogging this racism issue isn’t a good idea at all. It makes us look desperate and insecure in our shades and further gives the whites a psychological advantage over us.

As for her observation. Try to understand her. Imagine a “white girl rocks” on the BBC” the low self esteem blacks would start crying blood! And that confirms to the whites how dissatisfied we feel being black.

Its great to be black and I don’t need to sensitize the white folks about that! They have to get it naturally or underestimate me at their own peril!
