Selfie

If you do not know, I am glad to tell you that the word ‘Selfie’ has been named as the word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries—and this is due to the fact the word has evolved from a niche social media tag into a mainstream term for a self-portrait photograph.

It is said that the word had increased by 17,000% in the last year; beating other shortlisted words including “twerk”.

I am sure the popularity of ‘Selfie’ comes out of our everyday photo desire which centres around the word and with several self-obsessed celebrities all around the world ‘selfing’, the word surely deserves the win.

A ‘selfie’ can be loosely defined as a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone, and with the person who took the photo inside the photography…

I have failed to see ‘Selfie’ as mostly championed by self-obsessed individuals, especially celebrities.  Rather, I think our desire to capture certain moments for the various social media platforms has made ‘Selfie’ a practical exercise we cannot let go.

It seems all our Ghanaian Celebrities have help in winning ‘Selfie’ the top spot—either out of obsession or just a clean desire to capture some personal moments.

Whatever it is, we’ve collected some photos of your favourite celebrities ‘selfing’, check them out below…
