PHOTO OF THE DAY: HAIL Joselyn DUNA

If you have it, flaunt it and make the others jealous…This is exactly what Joselyn Duna Dumas is doing, posing back and side for the camera, in an attempt to highlight those curves in a black bodycon… Say it one more time…HAIL Joselyn Duna! This sort of reminds me of Veeda and Kim K.

Despite the fact she is an African, she cannot celebrate her heritage by embracing her culture, such as, wearing the famous African braids or even African dress—-probably, her superiors hate Africans.

According to reports, Melphine Evans, a black female executive at British oil giant BP is suing the company, alleging she was told that the clothing she wore was inappropriate, and should only be worn ‘during ‘culture day,’ black history month or special diversity events…

Melphine was vice president and CFO at two BP subsidiaries before she was fired.

MailOnline Reports;

According to the suit, filed with the Orange County Superior Court this week, Evans says that her supervisors told her that her dashiki and braided hair made other employees ‘uncomfortable.’

Melphine Evans is suing BP Products North America, her former BP West Coast Products office in La Palma and nine individuals.

Becca’s Annual Concert-‘Girls Talk’ Returns On December 20 In A GRAND Style!

Becca's GIRLS TALK-20th December, 2013
Becca’s GIRLS TALK-20th December, 2013

The year has been GREAT for talented Ghanaian songstress-Becca, and she is looking forward to end the year with another electrifying performance at the National Theatre on 20th December, 2013 where she will headline her annual girls only concert-GIRLS TALK.

Before we talk about the success of the previous-GIRLS TALK Concerts, let’s look at why this year’s event is going to be far different and far better than all those held.

In July this year, Becca launched her second studio album-Time 4 Me in Accra and the packed event attracted legendary Ghanaian musicians-Kojo Antwi, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, George Darko and others—with a new album out there, Becca surely has a large repertoire of songs to perform from at this year’s Concert.  And I mean, songs you’ve never seen her perform on any stage before…

Over the years, we’ve seen Becca build and perfect her stage craft. She has maintained a great performance standard as an artiste, performing at only the right places.

She has scored several great performances this year—including her outstanding performance in South Africa at Saitex Africa’s Big Seven Fair 2013 inside Gallagher Convention Center, the venue that once hosted Beyonce.  Certainly, with 20th December GIRLS TALK Concert being her last performance of the year, she would want to end the year on a high musical note, beating her own incredible ‘year-through’ performance record.

PHOTOS + A Look At The ‘Back In The Day’ Concert

Back in Day Concert (34)

It is well known that music is a universal language: where different dialects and accents can breed misunderstanding, music is something that everyone can connect to, old or young.  It is a very powerful weapon that can influence moods and sometimes even affect our outlook on life. It triggers emotions, especially if the music you are listening to is tied to nostalgia.

Remember when these names made headlines in-thing back in the day: Sonny Achiba, Ex-Doe, T Blaze, Terry Bonchaka and Lord Kenya? Well it was a delightful feast for the ears at the much hyped ‘Back in the Day’ Concert which took place at the Conference Centre in Accra last night.

The entire atmosphere just brought back a lot of memories: big afros with a retro spin, baggy pants and generally just an immense love for the classics, both Ghanaian and foreign with DJ Nii Ayi killing it with the records.

Even before the show started, everyone was either bobbing their head or singing along. Despite, the delay in kick off (Ghana man time) it was an amazing night with T bLaze, Th4 Kwages, Reggie Rockstone and Obrafour burning up the stage and reminding us why we loved their hit songs back in the day.

Patrons Enjoy Themselves At Back in the Day Concert

There was also a tribute to some of the fallen stars that we adored back in the day—Ronnie Coaches, Nelson Mandela and Terry Bonchaka were all remembered. But nothing beat the main attraction of the night- ‘Naughty by Nature’. It was great seeing them live and not just on the radio or on TV as the crowd went crazy with a lot of their hit songs from back in the day,  including those we didn’t even know.

My favorite part of the night was the treats! I mean, who doesn’t miss ‘Poki’ and ‘Alewa’! God bless Empire Entertainment, for paying attention to that little detail. It was one heck of a blast from the past!

Performances at the event were GREAT, patrons got more than their money worth and it was a real ‘Back in the Day’ experience. However, I think attendance could have been better…

Why Apologize When You Never Learn? RTP Awards Organizers Apologise Once Again!

RTP Awards

The truth is that, Ghanaians LIKE to be awarded for doing NOTHING great—and as a result, countless award schemes which hand out awards to friends and family are in full operation in Ghana.

Mostly, I ask myself this; what are these people being awarded for? I am not by any stretch saying all Ghanaians engage in sub-standard works and do not deserve to be honoured, but mostly, you cannot really establish the excellence some people are being awarded for…

Award schemes have taken over from beauty pageants as a quick way to make money in Ghana—lousy money making venture. And I doubt we will see the end of this soon.

For this reason, I made the editorial decision few months ago to stop publishing all the unnecessary HYPE press releases from most of these Ghanaian awards schemes—-so to keep the valued GhanaCelebrities.Com readers away from some of the absurdity. After all, they never live up to their own words or any sort of expectation, no matter how low the expectation is…

The just ended RTP Awards which handed out countless awards to people I find underserving last year, and has probably done it this year too (I have not bothered myself to look at the winners this year) has issued a press release, apologising for what was so obvious from day one to many industry persons…

I know they will come back next year and repeat the same mistakes. But the sad thing is, because Ghanaians like awards even if they have not done anything worthy of an award, they will show up at the next event to pick up these awards.

As Bill Murray said; “Awards are meaningless to me, and I have nothing but disdain for anyone who actively campaigns to get one”.

My Thoughts On Nelson Mandela + Had Mandela Been A Ghanaian…

Nelson Mandela

The below article is full satire so if you do not understand a paragraph, read it twice…The fallen of Mandela has gotten everyone talking—-and as a generous man, he has received great messages from all around the world…

After watching various coverages of Mandela’s death, his legacy and life, one thing I’ve realized is that; the man stood for an idea—so at one point in time, he was an idealist. And by idealist/idealism, I do not mean as it is in Philosophy or Epistemology, rather in Sociology.

Mandela was like most of us with ideas but what makes him a hero is; his commitment to his ideas and the extent to which he was ready to go—and went to move his ideas to become a reality…

He believed in something, he stood for something, he was ready to die for what he believed in…

What do you stand for as a person?

Read the piece below by Boadu Kwabena…

line

Sad news hit the world and its foundations shook upon hearing the news that a selfless African leader (a rare attribute in our part of the world!) was gone.

Nelson (which some zealots strangely write and pronounce ‘Nursing’) Rolihlahla Mandela has left the world after 95 years.

His years of fighting for freedom was over, he fought dead rumors amidst failing health until the final hours on Thursday when he said his final goodbye.

Have you imagined what would have happened if Mandela had been a Ghanaian?

First, the airwaves would have run amok with dirges here and there with lots of funeral experts talking what should happen next. Media experts will first question themselves if the required rites and rituals have been performed first to ‘leak’ the information about his death out to the international media. We won’t only have the death of a hero to deal with, but also try to answer that dodgy modernity versus culture riddle.
