The Ignorance Of Some White People Stinks…’I Am Going To Africa, Hope I Do Not Get AIDS. Just Kidding. I’m White’ PR Executive Tweets…

Going to Africa Aids Tweet

For some reason, I do not get offended anymore when I come across ignorant and absurd messages like the one below—-even if it is coming from an educated white person.

Surely, there are still some non-Africans out there who think Africans live on trees and therefore, it is not much of a SHOCK that a PR executive for a major media company would tweeted such a racist ‘joke’…

Before Justine Sacco boarded a British Airways flight 43  to Cape Town yesterday, the Communications Director for IAC, a parent company for Vimeo, OkCupid, Tinder, CollegeHumor, and Dictionary.com sent out a tweet to say: ‘Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just Kidding. I’m White!’

Her ignorant tweet sparked a social media revolt and it was retweeted over 3,000 times. It was also picked up by news sites around the world while Sacco was still in the air…

Another GREAT Becca’s Girl Talk Concert Was Held Yesterday To Empower Women

Becca's Girl Talk Concert
Becca’s Girl Talk Concert

It was all Girl Power last night as beautiful ladies from all parts of the country converged at the National Theater for the much buzzed about Becca’s Girls Talk concert.

The very successfully show saw surprise appearances by Van Vicker, Kwesi Oteng, Lil Win, King Ayisoba, Trigmatic, Kwaw Kesse, and singer Kesse. The star studded event also saw celebrities Martha Nkrumah, Nana Ama McBrown, Sandra Ankobiah and Mzbel on their feet dancing and having a jolly good time.

The show which was billed to start at 7pm started rather late with the opening act performing at around 9pm. This however did not stop the audience from having a good time as they were various interesting and funny moments.

Becca who has grown so much over the years as a songstress and a performer thrilled the audience with hit songs like ‘You lied to me’,‘Daa keda keda’ and ‘African Woman’.

The theme of the concert was ‘women empowerment’ and with the presence of notable women in politics like the MP for Dome Kwabenya –Adjoa Sarfo Katanka and also an encouraging  speech by the deputy of Tourism- Ms Abla Dzifa Gomashie, I am sure the message was driven home sound and clear.

One very interesting moment of the concert was the demonstration of the use of female condoms by a representative from the Ghana Aids Commission. She had the crowd roaring with laughter with her very graphic description of the use of the female condom. It was also a good idea that all the members of the audience were given free condoms to practice what they had just been taught.

How To Deal With Heartbreak-Part 1

sad-black-woman

At some point in your life (if not already) the proverbial “shit happens” and all you want to do after that is figure out how to get over a broken heart. If it hasn’t happened already, it might or you may just be one of those lucky few who are able to cruise through their entire life with just one loving mate. But to the awful tons of people who aren’t that lucky and have broken up, still crying their hearts out over a dead relationship or still licking their wounds, this may be an eye opener.

Life can be harsh at times and break-ups can be painful, but you’ve got to move along. Your ex partner has moved on, haven’t they? So what’s holding you back? I know it’s hard and it will take a while to get past it but there’s no happy ending in looking for a little ray of sunshine by hovering around.

Perhaps the break up was mutual (most mutual break ups don’t hurt that much) but if your heart still aches and you’re the only one suffering then my guess is that you are still in love with your ex. And the love is one sided! If it was real ‘mutual’ love (till both your dying breaths) then why did they walk out and why are they having fun right now whilst you gorge your eyes out?

Yes, I know he/she was the only one that mattered to you and now your heart is split in two and you don’t think you can last a minute without that person by your side but trust me, it will pass. Some of us survived it and so can you.

As difficult as it may seem, you need to understand that you have mourned enough.  To help you along that journey of self discovery and acceptance of the fact that there are many more fish in the sea, here is every single thing you need to do to ensure a speedy recovery and a quick jump into happy land…

Another Reason Why I HATE The Fact That Ghanaian Actors Are Suddenly Jumping To Become Directors | ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ Got Me Thinking Again …

Hobbit-Desolation-of-Smaug
The Hobbit-Desolation of Smaug

After Peter Jackson bought my full conscience with his splendid directorial work on the ‘Lord of The Rings’, my desire for more of his excellent works couldn’t be fulfilled with the numerous times I watched ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ when it was released last year.

Yesterday, I took time out to see Peter Jackson’s latest ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ in its full 3D glory. At the Deluxe Cinema hall of Cineworld in Woodgreen-London, I kept saying to myself;  this man has more than just the needed skills and experience…

As a Peter Jackson fan, I know he continues to play cameo roles (less than 60 seconds mostly) in most of his movies, so he can have a taste of the struggle the actors he directs go through in the making of a movie, and he did that once again in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ .

The reason why the sudden new African order of our ‘not so good’ actors and ‘best’ actors jumping the broom to become Directors hurts my heart is the lack of PASSION they have for their work—passion in cinematography is more important than acquired skills—and Peter Jackson is a living testimony…
