THE BIG QUESTION: Do Tribal Marriages Really Last Longer?

Black-Couple

Since I was a child, my aunties have always hammered into my ears the need to marry from our tribe.

They claim it is more secure, it is forever, it will last long and he and his family will treat me like family because we consider ourselves one. Almost like going home with a sibling. He will treat you well and not take undue advantage of you.

I sit and I wonder why they lied to me. I am not one to follow regular dogma; I know the marriages of my aunties (who have all married from the tribe) are not perfect. Even my mother is not a happy woman. But all these women, they had other suitors, very good suitors. Most of whom they did not accept to be with simply because they were not from our tribe.

Flimsy excuse if you ask me. Just like a smile, love has no language so therefore, it has no linguistic barriers.

If marrying from your tribe is really a proof, why are they not happy wives? I think there is only one auntie I know who has sovereignty in her home and marriage. There’s one whose husband beats her so often I think it has affected her mentally, because I always have to reintroduce myself every time we meet. There’s another whose husband is a chronic womanizer who openly cheats on her. But they still live together and pretend all is well.

Christabel Ekeh

The Ghana Movie Awards 2013’s red carpet had some eye popping moments with Christabel Ekeh leading the team in a white fitted, high slit dress that did put her bra on full BLAST…

I am not sure how that dress was meant to be worn—since it looks a bit over stretched at the chest area.

Nana Akua Addo also decided to show her post baby body and Kyeiwaa was looking lovely…Nikki Samonas, Salma Mumin, Vicky Zugah and Sonia Ibrahim were all looking cute!

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson decided to stand out in the crowd at yesterday’s Ghana Movie Awards, wearing a gothic themed make-up and a Halterneck Jumpsuit. However, her purple lipstick did not make much of a fashion statement, neither did it complement her outlook….

Star actress-Jackie Appiah who won the GMA’s ‘Best Actress in a Lead Role’ award for the second time wore a sparkling floor length ball gown and a ruby red lipstick…

Juliet Ibrahim also wore a figure hugging floor length gown by Ophelia Crossland Designs, and kept her accessories simple. Wearing a classic award show hairdo, she looked stunning and in good spirit…

My Thoughts On Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-POTOMANTO | ‘Women Used To Be Faithful, At Least To The Money’

Potomanto3
Yvonne Okoro in Potomanto

During the Christmas holidays, I had the opportunity to watch the new Shirley Frimpong Manso’s feature film-POTOMANTO in its full HD glory via Sparrow Station—and the experience was beyond my expectation.

Before I proceed with my thoughts on POTOMANTO, let me steal a bit of the space to tell you about my Sparrow Station experience.

I think I am in the best position to rate the Sparrow Station Video on Demand service. After all, I am a regular user of some of the best global VOD services such as Netflix, Lovefilm, NowTV and BlinkBox—I have once held accounts with all these platforms.

After having watched several movies on the above VOD platforms, I have become used to streaming interruptions, especially when the speed of the internet is not great. Even with my recently acquired fibre optic broadband connection, I’ve not been able to completely escape the headache of streaming interruptions.

Therefore, I was prepared to see the streaming of POTOMANTO on Sparrow Station being interrupted, at least two or three times. But shockingly, I watched the entire movie on Sparrow Station without any streaming interruption—and the quality of the movie was GREAT.

The first time I watched POTOMANTO, I did so on my laptop. And when I decided to re-watch it for the purpose of this write up, I hooked my laptop up to my TV—without losing any bit of the HD quality on the large TV.  In fact, it felt like I was watching one of the usual SKY HD channels.

Now back to the movie…POTOMANTO

Storyline

The movie touches on a global developing illegality, where certain underprivileged people in third world countries are lured with fictitious quick money opportunities—fetching them more than they bargain for.Mostly, with genuine intention and keen determination to change their lives for better, these poor young individuals find themselves being over-exploited by the rich.

Are Ghanaian Women Less Adventurous In The Bedroom? My Friend Thinks So!

in bed

In light of the Christmas festivities, I was trying to get in touch with a few old friends I hadn’t spoken to in a while.  During one of the catch up conversations about what was happening in town, the conversation miraculously shifted to the bedroom antics of women of different cultures and races.

According to my friend, due to the way women are brought up in Ghana, they are generally very timid in the bedroom. He attributed that to the fact that girls whiles growing up have been taught that sex is a bad act, the result of which is unwanted pregnancy. As such most girls grow up with the mindset that sex is only for procreation, and they generally lack the willingness to explore all the pleasures that it has to offer. He further went on to say that he has never met a Ghanaian woman who has ever initiated the act.

Contrary to the Ghanaian women approach, he argued that women of other cultures have a more open mind towards sex. American women especially are very adventurous in the bedroom and are always willing to try out new things in order to reach maximum satisfaction. ‘Seks’ is not only for procreation purposes but a means to explore the unimaginable sensual pleasures that can be derived from the body.

Ghana Movie Awards 2013: How It Went Down + Ghana Armed Forces Took Home An Award!

Ghana Movie Awards

The annual Ghana Movie Awards came off successfully for the 4th time yesterday-30th December, 2013 at the Accra International Conference Centre. The event witnessed major players in the movie industry coming out in their numbers with the hopes of bagging one or more award.

The ‘black tie’ event saw the stars put their best foot forward in their appearance as they dazzled in exquisite gowns and suits.  Among the ladies, Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah, Juliet Ibrahim and Joselyn Dumas were the top fashion picks for the night.

Even though the event was billed to start at 8pm, it suffered the disease called ‘Ghanaian Time’ and rather started a little after 11pm. Also a quick and heavy rain before the program saw the stage set up for the red carpet falling apart causing injury to the GhanaCelebrities.Com’s Correspondent.

Funny Face who along with Benny Blanco was the MC of the night started the program by thrilling the audience with his usual funny remarks and dance antics. There were also performances by various artistes and comedians and as usual Lil Win was the crowd favourite with his hilarious dance moves and funny retorts.

PHOTOS: Joselyn Dumas, Nadia Buari & Lil Win At The 2013 Ghana Movie Awards

Joselyn Dumas (1)
Joselyn Dumas

Ghanaian actress-Joselyn Dumas was not only looking glamorous last night at the 4th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards, she also took home an award—something we are sure she will be proud of and celebrate.

Wearing a black gown which perfectly showed her contours, Joselyn decided to tease with the cleavage—after all, she had the legs covered.

Nadia Buari did not take a lot of fashion risk last night—-keeping it simple with her hair and dress. Even though she made no use of accessories, her outlook was clean for the night. We expected her to step on the Red Carpet with an elegant gown but probably, the heavy rain made it impossible for her…

Dressed like the King that he is,  Lil Win was the man of the night. His every movement was applauded with shouts like ‘Go Lil Win’ from all those who were seated at the Accra International Conference Centre…
