After winning BBC’s Africa footballer of the year in December, Ivory Coast’s Yaya Toure has today been named Confederation of African Football (Caf) Footballer of the Year…

Yaya Toure was up against fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba, of Galatasaray, and Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi.

According to BBC;

Toure, 30, emulates Abedi Pele and Samuel Eto’o with a hat-trick of wins…

Ghanaian Abedi Pele won three in a row between 1991-93 while Cameroonian Eto’o took the award from 2003-05.

Toure may not have won a major trophy for club and country last year but his class has shone through at both domestic level and for the Elephants of Ivory Coast.

He was honoured at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on Thursday.

Toure’s form also led to him being the only African to be included on the 23-man shortlist for Fifa’s World Player of the Year.

When Was The Last Time You Read A Book? | Time To Cure The ‘Aliteracy’

black-woman-reading

A new type of reading problem is currently sweeping this world. It is called aliteracy. It is defined as “the quality or state of being able to read but being uninterested in doing so.”

Reading, which was once indulged in as a pleasure is now often spurned as a chore, and people do not actually view it as fun anymore.

Many adults are aliterate too. It is clear that reading ability is not always matched by reading desire. This is true even among very well-educated people. Majority of people that I have come across, after reaching home from work or school either turn on their television (to watch movies) or radio (to listen to music) instead of picking up a book to read.

The question I ask is; what has happened to reading?

In recent decades, its popularity has succumbed to the attention-grabbing media. Almost every household today is occupied with a set of television and radio. All these media are filled with interest – arousing programs that make it difficult for one to forgo them. Perhaps the most time-consuming competitor of reading is television.

According to research, by age 65 the average person will have spent nine years of his life watching TV. Since the rewards of reading are so often sacrificed to the flickering screen, it would be well to consider the following.

Silky Bras & Panties For MEN, Would You Let Your Man Wear One?

Men Bra
Men Bra and Panties

Trust Japan to be a leader in most things, including bring out beautiful silky bras and panties for them—and we hear market is booming out there.

According to Japanese website RocketNews24, a retailer who sells via online shopping outlet Rakuten, these undeniably pretty pieces of lingerie are, bizarrely, made for the men of Japan, with new products due to arrive mid February”.

The website continues “the garments are apparently specifically designed with men’s larger frames in mind, and although they still feature all the lace, floral print and underwire you might expect to meet during a rummage through grandma’s knicker collection, the bras’ cup sections lack any padding so as to allow men to slip them on without feeling unnatural”.

KKD Confirms That Yvonne Nelson Has Changed In Complexion…Bleaching Of Course!

blank

I do not see why Yvonne Nelson’s skin bleaching palava keeps finding its way in and out of news, almost each month…

A ‘satire article’ which surfaced online this week was taken as fact and re-published on several online platforms; I am even told Graphic Showbiz in Ghana picked the piece up.

For some reason, Peace Fm’s Entertainment Review (hosted by Akwasi Aboagye) also picked the story and called Yvonne Nelson to establish the truth of the article’s assertions.

Probably, they also missed the point that the piece was one of the many spoof articles that are gradually becoming part of the online/blogging world.

Yvonne Nelson denied every claim the article made and from her submission, she also did not know it was a spoof…

Now the real issue; after Yvonne Nelson’s denial of having bleached her skin (the theme of the spoof article), a visiting panel member of the show-Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) clearly stated in his contribution that Yvonne Nelson has changed in complexion (considering her Miss Ghana days and now).

As expected, a smart man like KKD will not in the spirit of truthfulness tear Yvonne Nelson down by going all out on her. Nevertheless, his submission impliedly cautioned her and several others against skin bleaching.

MUST READ: Do You Know What Happened On 9th Jan, 1995 In Ghana’s Showbiz?

Gemann3
Gemann

How old were you when the story of the popular Gemann homicide occurred in Ghana in 1995? Well, I was a young boy then but I recall the story and its associated furore vividly…

Gemann was the first man in Ghana who won by popular acclamation, the accolade, The Michael Jackson of Ghana. He is the first Ghanaian musician to copy the late Michael Jackson’s style of music, stage performance/craft, hair styling and costuming. His music career was largely influenced by the Late King of Pop Music.

GhanaCelebrities.Com scooped the story of Gemann for publication so we all once again can learn to extra cautious; specially, people in the showbiz industry who are usually puffed up with pride and ego.

If you are 30 years and above and followed Ghana’s showbiz religiously from the 90s, I know the story of Gemann as you are about to read will bring back sweet and sour memories.

Real name Nana Akwasi Agyeman but popularly known as Gemann in the 80s and 90s in Ghana, Gemann was a secular entertainer for 25 years. He worked in night clubs in Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean. He did a lot of radio and television appearances in many parts of the world in the 80s and 90s.

On January 9th 1995, he was just 3 days away from finishing his first video movie in Accra but unfortunately, his destiny came in confrontation with fate; Gemann was arrested for homicide over common taxi cap misunderstanding.

According to the story which had different accounts, Gemann hired the taxi driver to a particular destination but upon reaching his destination, misunderstanding ensued regards the fare he’s to pay the driver.

J. J. Rawlings Says Acheampong, Utuka & Others Needed To Die

J J Rawlings

It will be hypocrisy on my apart to suddenly claim that no one has the right to take away the life of another, because life is a God given gift—on the grounds that I don’t even believe in the existence of such a God.

However, even with the absence of objective moral values (as some people argue), right to life is a basic right, inherent, and until a Court of a land through fair trail has ordered so, it becomes illegal to take the life of another—-no matter the justification you can buy from somewhere…

Without a fair trail as we will all accept, J. J Rawlings had no legal right to kill or order the killing of any of the people he did. It is therefore unfortunate that even as at today, he still thinks his actions are justified and proper.

line

According to RadioXYZ;

Former President Jerry Rawlings says the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council necessarily needed to have executed Generals Afrifa, Acheampong, Utaka and other senior Military Officers in 1979 to save the country from implosion.

“We had no choice. We thought let two go. Acheampong and a certain Utuka, very corrupt Generals. They were sacrificed. It was not enough. Ladies and gentlemen, 10 days later, we had to sacrifice another 6 and some of the Commanders were innocent good people but it had to be done because the rage in the country was too high, too much”, the former Military leader told students in the Volta region where he spoke as the Guest of honour at the closing ceremony of the regional camp of the International Youth Fellowship at the Adidome Senior High School.

Highlife Music Is Not The Best Genre Of Music In Ghana

Amakye Dede
Amakye Dede

Highlife aficionados in Ghana are always on the neck of the current musicians who don’t do highlife but other genres of music – hiplife, hip hop, dancehall, raga, etc. sometimes, calling the latter’s songs ‘disposable music.’ I beg to differ.

To some people, if one does not do highlife music, then the person is not a musician or doing good music. And to others, if one does not use live band or manual musical instruments to produce music, then it means the music is of low quality…

Who says music produced by or with live band or manual musical instruments is better than digital or computerized music?

I describe all those so called lovers of old school music who think highlife music is the best form of music as ‘aged thinkers’. They keep repeating this improvident analysis on music all the time and think they are speaking as authorities in the field of music. I

The fact is, the orientation every human being is exposed to at a younger age is what he or she grows to believe in or live by. If you grew up listening to music produced with live band or manual musical instruments, it means the melody, beat and rhythm of such music is what tickles your fantasy and conscious musically.

Another person may have grown up listening to music produced digitally or with computers. If such a person enjoys digital music more than live band music, is it the fellow’s fault for being born in an era where music is produced with computers?
