        • @ Kay: Nana Ama is from a matrilineal culture (Ashanti) & in matrinlineal cultures, childbearing is more important than weddings. This is why in Akan culture, there is no such thing as an ‘illegitimate child’. According to Ashanti customs, once a child’s father accepts him & names him, that is the end of the matter- wedding or no wedding. The over emphasis on marriage came with the colonizers & Christian religion.

  1. ok. Noted. Forgive me for my ignorance. But, I think God wasn’t mistaken when he introduced marriage. And you said that marriage came with the colonizers & Christian religion. Is Nana Ama a Christian?

    • no p, Kay & no need to apologize. To be honest, I don’t know what religion she ascribes to or if she even ascribes to a religion. But what I was trying to point out is that it’s because of your Christian beliefs that you believe that God introduced marriage & it must come b4 childbirth etc. Not everyone shares this belief in as much as not everyone is Christian or even religious. I hope you catch me?
