I Did Not Go To Canada to Sweep the Streets – Says Kwaku Gyasi

Award winning gospel musician, Kwaku Gyasi, has come public to clear the air, saying; “I did not go to Canada to sweep as a means of keeping ‘soul and body’ together as speculated.”

On one of the Saturday editions of Peace 104.3 fm’s Entertainment Review, they discussed the state of Ghana’s gospel industry. In his submission, veteran music executive producer and the CEO of Media Excel, Kwasi Ennin Ernest, said “our industry is so bad that some of our respected gospel musicians have relocated abroad.

“By this time go and see Kwaku Gyasi, he could be sweeping on the streets somewhere in the cold weather to keep body and soul together.”

Some media houses took Mr. Ennin’s remarks out of context and started speculating that he has said Kwaku Gyasi is working as a sweeper in Canada. Kwaku Gyasi, who has been staying in Canada for consistently 5 years, reacted through his publicist; correcting the bad impression about his name and brand.

Unfortunately, his response did not get the prominence it required. On Chanel R’s entertainment programme, 205 Total Entertainment last week, the host, Christian Adjei Frimpong asked Kwaku Gyasi to tell the whole world whether he ever swept the streets…

In Kwaku Gyasi’s own words, he explained “I did not go to Canada to sweep. My wife and children are there so I went there to stay with my family. I have been staying here all this years but never did I or have I swept on the streets as a means of making money to cater for my family.”

Names of some Ghanaian celebrities alleged to have once or still do menial jobs abroad are: Yogi Dogi, Ex-Doe, Bright of Buk Bak fame, Nana Quarme, etc.

Whilst some school of thoughts in Ghana believes there is nothing wrong with a Ghanaian celebrity relocating abroad (out of Africa) to do menial jobs, other school of thoughts beg to differ, because, in their opinion, they (the celebs) are revered and celebrated back home.

Do you think if Kwaku Gyasi went to sweep abroad as a means of getting money it’s a big deal? Share your thoughts. Until then…MOTWUM!!
