GhanaCelebrities.Com has gathered from Opera Square that an understanding has been reached amongst the stakeholders in the film industry to release 8 Ghanaian movies and 3 foreign movies per week for sale.

GhanaCelebrities.Com therefore visited Opera Square today to ask whether they are able to make profit or break even; in the face of the huge quantities of movies they release unto the film market per week. In other words, do people buy the movies which seem to be outwitting demand?
It was there that we gathered from one man who only gave his name as Ibrahim – a film seller, that, an understanding has been reached amongst the Film Producers Association of Ghana FIPAG and the Film Marketers, Distributors and Sellers Association that only 8 Ghanaian and 3 foreign movies, shall be released per week.
Indeed, he revealed that the directive took effect from Monday 3rd Feb, 2013.
When GhanaCelebrities.Com asked for his opinion on the new directive; Ibrahim said “it’s a good initiative. The movies we were releasing then were too many per week, considering the size of our movie market.
The movies were too many that people were not buying. As you know, money is not easy to come by, so the buyers of the movies have also shrunk their hands. With this directive, the buyer has some grace period to save more and buy”.
“Again, not only were the movies too many; most of them were highly poor! We hope you guys criticize the filmmakers for us. Personally, I am happy with the directive”, Ibrahim added…
If eight (8) Ghanaian movies and three (3) foreign movies are to be released per week, it means in 4 weeks, 32 Ghanaian movies, 12 foreign movies will totally be released. In all, 44 movies will be released in a month; making an annual release count of 528 movies. It this a step towards the right direction? Well, you may share your opinion. Until then…MOTWUM!!
