Keys & Padlocks; Will There Ever Be A Time To Live Without Them?

Key & Padlocks

My brother and I moved in to our new flat about four weeks ago though we’ve had heard a lot about the presence of thieves in this area. The morning after our third day of moving in, our neighbour reported of witnessing a ‘thief’ in our compound (Probably the thief wanted to welcome us).

The situation out here demanded for some security measures to be taken place. Therefore, just last two weeks, we purchased some of these foreign breed dogs to serve as our security team. In addition to that, I myself also serve as a self-employed guard waking up every dawn to inspect the compound.

Why not humans? In a world like this where nobody can be trusted, you might even employ somebody thinking he is securing your property when in fact that person is a thief in disguise.

There is not a single day when one would tune into a radio station, read newspapers or watch television and he/she would not come across news relating to robbery.

Some older people can actually recall the days when no one locked their doors. Today, young folks in some parts of the world find that almost impossible to believe. They have grown up learning that key locks are essential to protect property and life.

Even though I am young, I still experienced those days when robbery was not rampant. It seems the more the days and years pass by, the more robbery also increases like inflation.

Today, many homeowners have more than three padlocks on their doors. The poor, whom I thought never bothered about shutting their doors now realise thieves nowadays are not class – conscious. If nothing is gotten from you, be prepared never to enjoy life again.

As a consequence, the security business is booming. Not just locks, but burglarproof glass windows, electric fences, and electronic alarms are being installed in great numbers.

But you see, even with many locks and other more sophisticated security equipments, majority of people do not really feel safe.

No lock will stop a thief determined to get into your home. Why do I say so? Because professional burglars are able to pick just about any lock that stands in their way, and others less skillful often force doors and windows to get into homes.

Some may suggest we move to a place where robbery is not rampant. The question is where would that be? Mars or Jupiter?

Since robbery increases rapidly each and every passing day, my question is; would there ever be a day where we will buy no locks again?
